As a reward for filing my taxes early and getting them back rather quickly, I bought Kit's Candy-Making Set for my Ruthie. Let's be honest, Kit's not a pink, frilly girl and Ruthie so totally is. Unlike the last Kit outfit I bought for Ruthie, this dress is perfect for Miss Smithens.
I'm a huge dork, so I was curious as to what size box they'd use for the sets considering there is a lot going on for this set in particular.

Normal box, crammed to the gills with stuff.

Spot the shoes, spot the shoes! (It's a trick, only one is visible as the other is hidden under the bunnies.)

Speaking of shoes, they're very, very pink. Which I wouldn't necessarily like for Kit, but for Ruthie? Sure, why the heck not. They're plastic t-strap and really, they're doll shoes. There's not a lot to write home about except for the soles...

Which have American Girl embossed on them. It's a nice touch even if I really should have done this review before my nap caused all the light to be sucked away.

I think the dress is adorable. I'm normally with Kit on the whole "no frils, no pink, no thank you, ma'am" side of things but I actually adore this dress. I think it'll look good on a lot of dolls, though redheads may be trickier. The fabric didn't catch on my hands, the dress went on easily, and it's pretty much no fuss, no muss.

The back lines up perfectly on almost the first try! Usually it takes me three or four tries on dresses.

It's lined so no embarrassing see-through flash moments for your dolls. Ooh, ahh. (Sorry, Ruthie.)

I give the dress side of this set a decided A. It's lovely, honestly.

Stuff in plastic. Ooh. Ahh.

Not in plastic. Ooh. Ahh. Well, the gift bags are because if I open them now, the cat will wear them as tiny capes as she runs through the room demanding attention.

The absolute best thing about this set is that the moment you think, "Hunh, I wonder if the bunnies fit the mold" and you pop them in, they do. Perfectly. Oddly aligned ears and all. Eee! I would not have expected to find this so much fun, but I really did. Go figure!

The worst thing about the set is that since it's doll food (and the bag warns you "Do Not Eat!") the chocolate blocks don't break apart so that they'll fit in the double boiler properly. Which is just a bit of a pain and is harshing my squee.

The basket is adorable and if I were 8 again, I'd skip through the house on Easter handing out mini candy from it.

Ruthie can hold the chocolate bunnies without assistance, in case you wondered.
Candy making set side of this $64? Get's a B+/A- from me, depending on how vexed you are by plastic and fake food not fitting where it should. The spoon is plastic (very much so) and the chocolate block is just a little too big to put into the pot which is just annoying as an adult and frustrating for a child who is very big on things being done the "right way". The mold is super fun, and the bunnies are cuter than real chocolate bunnies frequently are.
Overall, I'd buy it all over again. It was worth the money (to me) and even worth biting the shipping.
