I just inspected my childhood Clara doll today, so I figured I would review how she's held up over the years! Bear in mind, she's over 20 years old, so she's doing pretty well ^_^
Quality Grade - C (that wig! that red-staining Nutcracker!)
Beauty Grade - A+!
I think Sam's Clara doll is gorgeous, and I love the one I received as a child more than any other version I've seen. She's certainly a Pleasant Company model, although not the earliest one, but she is just so, so pretty.
I am kicking myself because I wanted to make sure her face was clean, so I rubbed it with a bit of baking soda today. Although her other face paint was undisturbed, her blush just pilled off and was gone
She still looks great, of course. I also just noticed that her eyelashes on her left eye are way-y-y longer than the right, but she manages not to look wonky despite being uneven
Her hair is shiny, and a little fly-away not unlike my Samantha doll which makes me smile
She is loosing hair rapidly though and now that I've tied it with a ribbon (her original ribbon is gone, it was tied with a plain string when I rediscovered her) I'll never touch it again. Seriously, a huge chunk of hair came out today. Her bald spot is only barely visible in the back, though!
I don't think my doll is posable at all, like some of the others reviewed, but she does feel very sturdy (with the exception of her hair).
I must not have liked her always holding the Nutcracker, which might be a good thing as my Clara only has a little bit of red paint on her hand. I'll probably add a little loop of gold elastic to him so it's easier to put him in her hand, and take him out.
All in all, I would not pass this down to a young girl to play with, because Clara would loose all of her hair, poor thing!
Of course, I played with her when I was little and she's survived thus far! She will look great on display, and I'm glad I found her packed away with Samantha's old clothes.
