My DD has a thing about noisy toys. She tends to hide them under her bed because they irritate her, but she still wants this set.
As far as noises go, it isn't the most annoying thing I have ever heard. Yes, I am sure you could remove the batteries & make it permanently quiet. But there is also an on/off switch.
