These appear to be a high quality resin, and are very heavy. That's why shipping costs on eBay are so high. We have the Molly and Felicity bookends and they are really beautiful. Honestly, $30 was a fair price. I was thrilled to pay $15 for each of ours at a local Hallmark store when they cleared out their stock. Some photos:
