So, in light of Cécile's retirement, I had no choice but to order her. She arrived today, and I am crazy about her. I wanted to make sure to do another review in the hopes of swaying anyone else who might be on the fence.
Doll: 10/10. Cécile is my first African-American doll, and I just love the cocoa color of her skin and those piercing hazel eyes. Her face paint is so pretty! Her cheeks are blushed, but not bright pink, and her lips are a more muted raspberry color than the lighter skin tones use. I love it.
Hair: 10/10. Obviously, this is probably not who I'd choose for my 8-year-old's first doll, but for someone with experience handling doll hair, I think it's going to be really nice! My Cece came with the more loose ringlets, which I was hoping for, so I'm very, very happy with it. It's silky and soft and shot through with lots of rosy mahogany. Illustrated in Caroline's meet, just to prove how pretty she looks in anything she puts on:
Meet dress: 8/10. The fabric is soft and silky, and much more pronounced than it looked in pictures. The little pleats in her bodice are a really nice touch. The only points I could see for deduction was that it's, as others have stated, quite thin, and I'm not sure how much child's play it would hold up to.
My Cécile has the narrower face, but after much scrutiny, I've decided it's not narrow enough to bother me. She's also pigeon-toed and has a slight right-favoring head tilt. I think it makes her sweet.
And oh, my goodness, does this girl look good in everything. Absolutely everything. Here, she wandered back to 2013 and borrowed Saige's balloon dress. The gold is particularly striking with her coloring!
Overall, I would recommend this beauty 100%. If you're thinking you might want her, even a little bit, I'd say to get her. You won't be disappointed.
Last note: Cécile is really, really tall. Like, a whole head taller than my MG, Harper. She'll be modern, too, and join Harper in her world, though she'll be keeping her name. Here they are together, just a couple more pictures.
I love her! (Also, I apologize for the terrible quality. My camera died, and I'm having to make do with my cell until I can afford to replace it.)
