GEOFFREY, IS THAT YOU? The new facial screening is lovely although it doesn't look much like the 18" counterpart. The BF Minis are more cartoony and they would not look out of place in Barbie's realm. I had to sift through several boxes at the store to find one with vivid paint, so that is something to take into consideration if you decide to purchase online. BF Mini Julie's hair is very soft and falls down to her upper calf. Some minor gripes: the neck is too long and the sloping shoulders can appear weird at certain angles. Another thing I noticed is that Julie wears white sneakers on the cover illustration yet she comes in purple slide sandals. I would have preferred the former. Below are some articulation comparison shots between the old and BF minis.

WIDE STANCE: The new minis have splayed legs that are very unladylike. This makes posing the doll standing a balancing act and is a tad cumbersome. I think the source of the problem is the mini book tray has a huge mold backing that pushes the doll's legs apart. I have mini Julie's legs bound together at the ankles and hopefully after some time that will reduce the gap. The vinyl body is squishy and has some give when squeezed.

THE CEILING CAN'T HOLD US: The new minis arm can no longer pivot at an angle. They merely rotate around the socket straight up or down. BF Julie can do the "Touchdown" but not hang out at the "Y".

I LIKE WARM HUGS: The overhead shot I think best showcases the range of articulation of the new arms.

KITTUMS AWAY!
Overall I give BF mini Julie a B+. The minis are a totable size and are perfect for play with similarly scaled figures. I don't mind that the cloth bodies are gone but not at the expense of the articulation. At $25 (I paid $24 due to a labeling snafu at the store) the mini dolls are grossly overpriced, but what isn't at AG.
