As someone who normally isn't fond of Julie's wardrobe, I was surprised at how much I loved this coat when it came out. My best friend picked it up for me for Christmas. I don't have Julie, so my #58 got to try it on. It's a very, very soft, almost suede-feeling fabric, with a thick fur collar and cuffs. I love how soft this is! Julie could sleep on it, it's so soft. The purple color is deep and vibrant - it looks gorgeous on my #58. My only complaint is I agree that the fabric on the coat, cozy as it is, could be thicker. The hat is a cute knitted beret, a lighter version of the felt berets that came with Ivy and Molly's accessories.
Despite the thin fabric, I still recommend this for Julie, Ivy, and late 20th century and modern dolls looking for light winter and early spring coats and hats.
