I thought the dress was synthetic suede? I used to have a length of ultrasuede that looked and felt just like Kaya's dress and they do say that all animal products are simulated unless noted and it doesn't mention it being real in the description.
I've had both versions of shoulder on the meet dress and the adorned dress and I much prefer the curved ones. The straight seamed ones have a lot of unneeded hemming that make the shoulders stick straight out from the doll when the dress is new. I really like how the deer tail smudge varies with each dress, it makes them seem a bit more authentic somehow.
