When the Chic Bun first came out it was my least favorite of the hairpieces, I thought it looked goofy, more like a Marie Antoinette hairstyle than a bun! But member photos looked much better than the promos, and so I decided to buy it for my custom Lydia doll. Her hair was definitely long enough to make a bun, but it had a lot of flyaways and frankly I got sick of trying to make a bun look nice on my own!
I bought mine from Ebay after it was discontinued from AG for...$7 shipped! And that is a waaaaayyyy better price than the $20 AG asked. I think I would pay up to $10-12. The bun is very nicely made and easy to use. I didn't attempt the looped ponytail, I just followed the instructions in the other reviews upthread, attaching the Chic Bun over a doll's bun and adding the hairpins to help keep the piece secure. With just the combs the hairpiece does have a tendency to gape. I think AG should have "suggested" using bobby pins on the package even if they didn't include them.
I bought brown, which is basically the same hair color of dolls like Molly, #7, or #23. It is a close match for my Lydia's non-AG wig, a bit shinier and a bit redder. However, it is not too much of a problem to me as even the official hairpieces for Caroline and Josefina don't match those dolls' hair exactly either. The hairpiece is sort of glued to stay in place. I would keep it away from Velcro in storage because that could easily damage the style and I don't see a good way to fix it, but otherwise it looks pretty sturdy. The braids are a nice touch and work well for a modern or historic style but I wished they crossed in an X instead of an awkward Y-shape.

It looks kind of silly from the side but when I make a bun with Lydia's own hair it is about that big anyway. And it definitely doesn't look as exaggerated as on the packaging.

I'm glad I took a chance on the Chic Bun, I agree with the review above that says it is totally adorable! I would give it an A-!
