Here's the update. I went to Michigan and took both kayaks out on the lake.
I set it out on the water without a doll first and it does float:
The bottom part is really cool especially in real water. They should make human boats with clear bottoms. Can you see this piece of seaweed?
I put an all vinyl doll in the boat first but I couldn’t even take a picture of her because the boat immediately started to tip and fill with water. There was no way I was going to use it with Lea. I even kind of wonder if it leaks because the highest part, (the black bungee cord part where Lea keeps her underwater camera) was full of water and I know it didn’t tip that much to let water in there. So, it's a disappointment in real water. If you're looking for a boat to use in real water, Jess's boat is better than Lea's:
But even that is kind of prone to tip.
