I have both versions of Addy’s ice cream freezer, and I think they’re both adorable. Although I’ve never actually used them to make ice cream, I love that that’s a possibility. Here they are side by side: The older version is on the left, and it has a darker, more weathered appearance. The newer version is just a tiny bit larger, and it has a lighter, more uniformly colored appearance. The difference is especially noticeable when looking at the freezer from the top or the bottom: You can also see a little difference in the wood handle in that last picture. The inside components of the freezers are very, very similar, but there is just enough difference in the size so that not all of the parts are completely interchangeable. For example, the churn on one doesn’t quite fit into the bucket and lid of the other, and one of the axles doesn’t quite fit with the other’s handle. I found this out by accident, but it might be helpful for others who are looking for replacement parts. Here is a photo showing all of the separate components of the freezer. Everything on the left side is part of the older version. Overall, I like the more antique appearance of the older version better, but both versions seem well-made, functional, and durable. I would probably rate this piece a B+/A- because it’s pretty awesome for what it is, but I just don’t think it gets used as often as some of the other, more everyday pieces.
