This is a neat little toy. It's plastic but as Thimbleberry pointed out, plastic IS era appropriate. The dials are a bit small and may be fragile. I would strongly recommend this for the target age group of 8+. The radio comes with a pamphlet in multiple languages with picture directions to unscrew the back and install batteries. It does not come with directions on how to make it work. You first turn the dial on the left until you hear a click to turn it on. Then turn the dial on the right to hear 1940s radio. The radio IS specific to 1941-it has FDR's "Date of Infamy" speech, a notice to all military personnel to report to duty and two upbeat dance tunes. You can download some 1940s radio to an MP3 player, computer or more modern device (which I don't have) to play other 1940s radio broadcasts and make it work for Molly. My only major complaint is that batteries are not included. Didn't Molly's come with batteries? I got this with my Rewards certificate but I think it's worth the full price if you have a device to hook it up to.
