The wooden building part does not fold up in anyway. There is a plastic gold roof that is holding it in the 90 degree angle shape. I heard from others that you can pull off the plastic pergola piece after it's been attached, but for me, this makes me nervous. I'm worried that the plastic tabs that attach it could break. I have this piece, and I had a super hard time getting it attached to the wooden part for the first time. I had to use a lot of force. I'm not taking mine off again for fear of breaking it and the pain of trying to get it attached again. Bottom line, it does not fold up nicely for storage. What you see is what you get.
