Despite having had Molly for several years now, her school outfit is a recent acquisition…and I wish I’d gotten it sooner! I remember seeing it in the catalogues as a kid and my best friend in elementary school had it for her Molly, and in those years, I wasn’t terribly impressed with it and thought it was a little boring. I guess there’s no accounting for taste as one gets older because now I think it’s an adorably classic look! It’d probably work just as well for a modern doll as it does for 1940s Molly. I’m not particularly into mix and matching, but I’m sure this outfit has plenty of potential for it. It’s a must have for Molly collectors!
Blouse - A
The shirt is a crisp, white blouse with long, slightly puffy sleeves and a Peter Pan collar. The two buttons on the front and the lace around the collar and cuffs are a nice touch. The sleeves have Velcro at the cuffs for ease in putting Molly in and out of it, which I greatly appreciate as both a former-kid and an adult with very non-nimble fingers! The sole drawback is the Velcro on the back of the blouse. It only closes at the top, leaving the bottom of the shirt open. This isn’t a problem when pairing the blouse with the jumper, but those looking to mix it with other bottoms may find this to be a problem.

Jumper – A+
The jumper is made of a soft flannel and features a flattering plaid of green, red, and white. In addition to looking really good with Molly’s colouring, it would probably also work as a Christmas dress if needed. The pleated skirt is both classic and gives the outfit some structure. Mine is the PC version and fits my PC Molly very well – I can’t speak for whether later versions will fit PC dolls of if PC versions of the outfits hang on Mattel dolls, but mine fits its corresponding era doll appropriately! I actually sort of wish that I’d had a jumper like this to wear to school…

Since mine was purchased from a board member, it didn’t come with the green hair ribbons. That’s just as well to me since I rarely change hair stuff out, but I’m sure they were the standard, satin ribbons
Overall, a cute, classic ensemble that’s very flattering on Molly and could work for a doll in any era from Molly’s to the present. I’m so glad that I have this and urge every Molly collector to add it to their collection if they haven’t already – it’s such an essential piece for her era. A solid A!
