Nanea’s mom made most of her clothes. She often used palaka, a traditional Hawaiian checkered fabric that was easy to find on the islands.
This outfit includes: A cropped top with a bow at the sweetheart neckline High-waisted shorts with front pleats and wide legs Green sandals with crisscross ankle straps and cutout hearts A faux plumeria flower clip for her hairI think this outfit is adorable, and I was happy to find it still on a shelf at a Chapters Indigo store on a trip to Canada after it had officially retired. Here’s my new-to-me Jess wearing it: I really like the palaka design and how it matches the handbag and pouch in the accessories set. The top has a cute sweetheart neckline and attaches with Velcro in the back. The palaka pattern matches up when it's closed. The shorts are pleated in the front and have an elastic waistband in the back, with no Velcro. Mine pulled on easily, so I don’t know if the fit varies according to the shorts or according to the doll, but mine needed no tugging to get onto Jess. I agree with woodnearathens about the cute heart detail on the sandals, but with islandgirls about their quality. The straps were getting twisted and pulled when I put them on, and I don’t think they’d hold up to a lot of play. I like the flower clip. Here are some more photos: Overall grade: A
