Addy's gift from M'dear was a lovely tin box tied with a satin ribbon. Nestled inside were a note and six benne candies made of sesame seeds. They're make-believe, of course. But the best treat of all came from Sunny, M'dear's bright yellow canary who lived in a birdcage. His special song seemed to burst with hope and gladness - a reminder to Addy to "always let her own spirit sing out."

The birdcage is metal, with a door that opens and closes. Sunny is attached to his perch that swings back and forth inside the cage. The little bird is covered in yellow craft feathers, with an orange beak and black plastic eyes. He doesn't have any feet, and a metal screw attaches his body directly to the wooden perch.

The candy tin is metal, painted black on the outside, with a pretty blue flower design painted on the top. It comes tied with a yellow ribbon.

The note comes folded up inside the candy tin, and reads:

Happy Birthday, Addy
