I knew before she was released Id be getting her regardless of how she looked, because my sweet granddaughter is half Indian, and her mother is very proactive in keeping that culture in their lives. I was fortunate to have TM62, the only Med complexioned Sonali mold doll and Maritza with the newer med complexion as well as 46 and 47 in my collection, so I was eager for Kavi to be something a bit different, but it wasn’t going to make a bit of difference in whether I got two of her; one for me and one for my granddaughter
I was delighted with the choice of the very underused Marie Grace face mold. I like this face mills very much, and it was not yet used for a dark eyed, dark haired doll even in the new TM renditions though TM117 is close. Don’t know whether that doll has the newer med skin tone like Maritza or the regular.
Kavi looks very much like my granddaughter’s other grandmother , as well as aunts and cousins from that side of the family, all South East Asian Indian. Quite a bit of skin tone variation in the family , ranging from dark to very light on the AG spectrum. My DIL is a Kaya look alike right down to skin tone taking after her father’s side of the family. Too early to say for now where my grandbaby lies in appearances, but I’d say somewhere in the middle. Kavi is an excellent representation of many of her aunts and cousins.
She is also a very very pretty doll. I feel I could have ordered this doll online, as there were not too many variations among the dolls at the NY store. I’m forgiving of minor imperfections, but the overall look and expression has to be pleasing to me with the gaze very important. Most all of the dolls there fit that criterion. I ficus send more in eye and eye lash uniformity and hairline and sacrificed some hair thickness to get one that I felt scored high in those attributes.
One thing that stood out to me is that Kavi’s eyebrows csn look very dark snd heavy in certain lighting. That can give a bit of an eerie appearance. As a Heavy browned Person myself, I have no issues with that but for a bit of universal appeal, it might have been wise to have given her slightly less thick brows. Still the brows as painted give this doll a very open and pleasant expression. Not angry or stark like Maritza or some other dolls may have. Kavi has a sweet pretty face, pleasant, unassuming , sweet. Yes, I like her very much. Much sweeter than Corinne, Maritza, the twins and my Sonali mold dolls. Along the lines of Joss and the adorable TM122.
Starting from the top, this doll has very nice hair. Just the right length, straight but with enough of a wave to style, her hair is a very dark brown black, darker than most of the brunettes. Really appears black for all intents and purposes. Disappointed that she doesn’t have the McKenna no part hair but AG was clever in her meet style. Unique hair do that I may replicate in other dolls. Flattering to her. I give this wig a 10, even though I chose a less full wigged doll . I don’t want to take her out of her meet hair style, because it works so well for her. From photos, I dare say, she looks great with her hair down too
One unusual feature is that Kavi has an unpainted little spot on her bottom lip, to give her yet another unique appearance coupled with this MG mold. I’ll have to check out my other MG mold dolls to see if they have the same. I Nat fill it in with a dab of lipstick to see how that changes her expression
Skin coloring is supposed to be medium, the older regular medium. Well, she’s the lightest medium I have. There was a time AG medium skin tone dolls were difficult for me to distinguish from light in the store display cases and it took the darker lighting of my home to see the difference for me. My medium skin tone dolls are all very distinctly darker than my light skin tone dolls at my home and I’ll have to see how Kavi stands in that environment with my other dolls. My TM62 really looks more dark than medium at my house. She has been my Indian girl so I’ll have to do a comparison with Kavi when I get home. Here in NY, she looks light skin in coloring. Which, in my opinion, is fine. She looks so very pretty just as is. I give her face , expression and features a 10. I don’t know how AG could have made a more unique and attractive doll with this phenotype.
Here’s where the 10s end. Great head but the outfit….umm. Not to my liking at all. Will review in the Next post as this has gone on a bit too long. Hope to add comparison photos with other dolls when I get home. Also, can do a direct side by side comparison then. Right now, am enjoying this doll solo , as is, straight out of the box.
