I have changed facial skin tone in a number of my dolls. My most dramatic transformation was for my Lindsay doll that I got on EBay. Adorable doll with the cutest hair in great condition, great price But she had a ghastly gray green cast to her complexion which is a known issue with some dolls of some years.
What I did was get cheap oil based foundation and rubbed it on the dolls face and let it soak in. Vinyl absorbs oil. Over time, and in a warm room, near heat because warmer softer vinyl absorbs ok and color faster than cold. I then rubbed off the foundation after a few days, maybe a week, and then adjusted the coloring because I went a bit too light that first go. I repeated several times until my Lindsay was looking the way I wanted. Then used oil pencils, oil blush for cheek color , shading, Eyebrows, lip, freckles. Make up eye pencils are usually oil based but I have a set of oil based color pencils I like to use .
Most dolls don’t need such time consuming repeat color washes. One application of foundation if you can nail the right shade or just adding some cheek coloring with blush can make a huge difference.
I think Cinderella will just get a very light application of a very light oil based Dollar Store blush or lip coloring to give her face a bit more contouring, shadows, shaping and not be so glaringly baby doll pink white. May adjust lipstick closer to rose than the current peach tone. It will be a very subtle effect. Imo, AG went too light with this skin tone. But it might be what the kids want. I’m not the arbiter of these things, I just do my dolls as I please.
