This is quite possibly my favourite historical outfit, with the exception of Felicity’s summer gown. To me, it harks back to the pre-Mattel days, when everything fastened with snaps and ties instead of with Velcro. The outfit consists of a calf-length coat, cape, hat and mittens. I actually thought that that the mittens were attached to the coat, but they are separate and run through the sleeves of the coat. They are super cute, but I can see that they could unravel easily if handled roughly. The coat could probably be worn alone, without the cape or hat. It is double-breasted and collared, and closes with snaps. It is super cute, and though the sleeves are a bit small, my Nellie is mostly for display. She often wears this coat as an outfit, with nothing but her tights underneath. Because of this, I haven’t had any problems, though I can see that it might reduce the piece’s playability. I also had no problems whatsoever with the cape. I find that tucking it underneath the collar and then tying it on keeps it secure – and the leopard print is absolutely adorable! My hat is also not all defective (the lining does not show through) and looks amazing on Nellie. The deep colours and rich materials work beautifully for her complexion. All in all, this outfit gets an A+ from me. It is definitely worth its $26.00 price tag.
