This actually was a bummer. Because there is no backing, the dolls can't sit well in it. I haven't noticed that the benches fall over. But overall, I would ditch this piece. I even tried to give it away and no one would take it. 
So now it just sits in the corner and occassionally my kids stand on to get to other things.
