First impression: I was a little disapointed when I saw Addy's trunk in person. The wood felt thin and cheap and the newspaper didn't look like real newspaper to me. The trunk was nice but not as nice as I had expected.
Second opinion: This trunk is amazing when you look at it and play with it. It stores a lot and is really cool though the wood is thin and the varnish is a strange color.
No one has commented on the relevance of the newspaper article used to line the cover. It is a Harper's Weekly page about freedmen and colored troops! The bottom is lined with advertisements.
Unhinged version grade: A-

Addy's trunk - retired hinged version
This trunk is beautiful. It has a hinged lid that is held up with a rope, metal edges on the outside, a metal, rope and wood latch to close it, a tray to use as a bed or store treasures, a secret compartment inside the tray, and the bottom is divided into two sections. The lid and bottom are lined with Civil War era newspapers. The top has an article relating to freedmen and Colored Troops and the bottom is advertisements. The paper looks like real newsprint. It is newsprint color and fun to look at. Addy can lie in the tray and have a nice bed to sleep in if she doesn't have her real bed, or maybe a bed for sleepovers? This trunk is a beautiful piece of furniture, and a welcome addition to any Addy collector's collection. The only negatives are 1) the secret compartment is nearly impossible to access 2) the divided bottom and try on top makes for less storage than if it were all open and 3) it scratches and dents easily.
Grade: A
