Minnesota winters were long and hard, but Kirsten still found ways to have fun. She especially loved to skate on the stream near the Larsons’ cabin. Mama made Kirsten a warm coat from a heavy wool Hudson’s Bay blanket. Cream colored with red stripes, the coat had a cozy hood with a red tassel in back and buttons that were carved out of horn. Wrap Kirsten’s red scarf around her neck, and help her strap on her ice skates—they have little cut-out hearts in their blades.
This is one of the best outfits ever made. The coat is made from a real Hudson's Bay Blanket which is so soft and warm feeling. I wish it came in my size. The wool coat repels snow nicely and is very warm. It has a little hood with a tassel which was just the thing in 1854. The scarf is nicely knit and has a very pretty Scandinavian feel to it. The ice skates are real wood, leather and metal. The blades of the skates curve up into a little heart shape. I haven't had problems with the skates breaking. They are usually stored in her trunk and she has worn them a few times. I got this set immediately when it was released.
A+
