This outfit was worn by Molly in the book Meet Molly. It was introduced as Molly's Halloween Hula Costume for $20 in 1989 and modified in 2004. The name of the outfit changed to Hula Costume in 2008. The price increased from $28 to $34 in January 2012. The outfit retired later in 2012.
Early description: Molly and her friends wanted to be glamorous hula dancers for Halloween, so they made their own costumes. Molly’s outfit included a green paper hula skirt and a big red sweater. She wore a fluffy yellow Hawaiian lei around her neck with a matching wristlet and flower for her hair. She decorated a sack for her treats and wore a mask to trick the neighbors.
Later description: Give Molly a Hawaiian makeover with this hula skirt and sweater, flower lei and bracelet, and hair accessories. It’s just like the costume Molly wore in Meet Molly. Includes a paper treat sack and a special mask for a disguise.

This outfit is actually more cute than I thought it would be. My sister picked it up at the Outlet a couple of weeks ago.
It includes a red sweater that pulls over her head, much like her Meet sweater. It's a little thicker than Molly's Meet sweater, though.
The grass hula skirt is made of a kind of plastic material and has an elastic waist. I first put the skirt on over the underwear Molly came with, but they don't work well together at all. It makes the skirt puff out. Maybe the undies that come with Molly's Underwear Set would work better under the hula skirt.
This set also includes a flower lei, bracelet, and 2 flowers for her hair. Those are also really nice. They're like those fake plastic flowers that you can get at stores like Michael's. The lei and bracelet are each strung together using an elastic band. The flowers for her hair are not really clips. They stay on her hair using a peice of velcro.
Finally included are a simple black mask and a paper treat bag that's big enough to make Molly seem like a greedy little trick-or-treater.
Grade: A+

Hula skirt with no undies. You can't really see through it that much.

Larger than life treat bag.

Mask and close up of lei, bracelet, and hair accessories.
