We bought Julie's bed/bedding for one of our DGD's last year and she absolutely loves it. The bed is made of painted wood I believe. It surely does not feel like anything plastic except for the hanging beads which one would expect. 
It seems plenty sturdy enough.......but if a child actually tried to sit on it, like most doll furniture, it probably would not hold up well.
