Whether Kavi’s heading to dance practice or off to Broadway with Dadima, her grandmother, she keeps her favorite accessories close at hand.
Includes: Hattie, Kavi’s elephant good-luck charm she got in India when she was six A hot-pink faux-fur bucket hat featuring an embroidered AG logo A multicolored cuff bracelet A structured black quilted-style purse with a wide pink strap so it can be worn crossbody or over the shoulder A planner for Kavi to keep track of schoolwork, yoga class, dance practice, piano lessons, and more
Despite the whopping 35 price tag of AG meet accessory sets , I felt I had to get Kavi’s. A $5 sweetener when buying with the doll, so that’s what i did.
The hot pink hat is fine for cold weather, not so great for summer. It pulls some of the pink from the meet shirt, coordinates well with the multi color pile jacket of the performance outfit and the pink pants and tops off the hot pink sneakers of the meet outfit. The style looks good on Kavi as is the color. it is a cute hat. I’m going to try to get a vest or jacket in that color for her. And look for a pink bucket hat for summer in that color.
The purse…well, OG makes better purse sets for under $10, so shame on you, AG! Cardboard lines the wall of this box purse. It’s too small to fit the journal, and even with it crammed in there sticking out, can’t fit the other meet accessories comfortably in there. The little elephant just begging to get lost, because what else to do with it if not putting it in that purse? A clip to attach to bag or outfit would have been nice. Also a little pen, ID, simple wallet, some things that usually go in a purse should have been nice for this price. I give this a D for value, smart planning, work together, quality features.

Bollywood is a big part of a lot of Indians’ lives. My DIL, and her sisters , though all born here in the US and very much mainstreamed into US culture love playing the music , streaming the videos, dancing, singing and watching Bollywood fare. Came back to their home the other night to strains of the music and walked in as my DIL was dancing and singing with my granddaughter in her arms with a Bollywood video on the screen. The baby already has several bright colored Indisn outfits that would fit right in with Kavi’s Bollywood outfit
So, my personal preferences in attire have to be put aside in assessing this realistic outfit. Firstly, I like some cohesion in my character dolls’ wardrobes and this outfit and pjs are out of that range. As is the meet top. So, there is a general feeling of dissatisfaction with Kavi’s wardrobe in general. Also, I don’t care for the brighter gaudier outfits that are the epitome of Bollywood wear. The Diwali outfit, I adore, and is definitely part of my Kavis’ wardrobes. The Bollywood outfit will go into my granddaughter’s Kavi stash. I don’t want it with my things
But the outfit is well made and fits well with her story, both, to me , important components of AG doll clothes . Also the colors are flattering to the doll. And, of course, irl, we don’t tend to have cohesive themed and color coordinated wardrobes. But with so few clothes, it works so much better, imo, when the. pieces fit together.
So, the outfit is wonderful and essential to the story and background. Makes a wonderful stand alone outfit , is well made and suits the doll. I give it an A in that regard, removing my personal quirks and preferences from the equation. However, my Personal Kavi won’t get this outfit.
I disliked Kavi’s meet outfit from the get go. But, hey, if that’s what the young girls who make the profit meters swirl like it, if this is the 2023 style, let’s do it. Well, sadly, this gorgeous doll isn’t selling well even in trendy attire, sad to say. I did not see much interest in her at the AG store in NY and there was a decent crowd shopping including quite a few target aged girls. I had the Kavi area all to myself as I checked out the selections.
I wonder if a cuter, prettier, more traditional, classic meet outfit would hsve showcased this doll a bit better. Her top is very unusual among AG outfits and NOT what kids are wearing. The colors are not pleasing n common to me and I don’t think they are to kids either. Her meet outfit is reminiscent of Ivy’s snd I think Ivy’s green pants might go with that top.
Actually, the top wasn’t as horrible as I first considered it, but it is a tough one to match. It doesn’t particularly do we’ll with the silver satiny meet pants, imo. Much as I dislike the performance outfit with its loud pink and purple colors , I think that outfit prints out more of Kavi’s feature; much more flattering g to her coloring. This outfit, supposed to be “edgy” is really milque toast in effect. Forgettable and not pleasing. I really can’t think of anything that would make that top stand out. The pants are neutral at best. They could have been showcased better with a flashy show girl type top, but instead the meet blouse really just dead pans them.
The hot pink high top sneakers could have been a win but imo they are incongruent with that outfit. A splash of hot pink, not the more muted, hardly distinguishable pink in the top, might have pulled the look together better . The hat in the meet accessories does help but too late . I may get a hot pink vest or short jacket to try to give this a brighter more dynamic a nd yet cohesive look. The meet outfit as is now gets a D- grade from me with the possibilities that the satin pants and pink sneakers the only thing that Dave it from total failure As a complete, composite look, definitely a F from me. Only Ivy’s meet outfit is worse.
I knew before she was released Id be getting her regardless of how she looked, because my sweet granddaughter is half Indian, and her mother is very proactive in keeping that culture in their lives. I was fortunate to have TM62, the only Med complexioned Sonali mold doll and Maritza with the newer med complexion as well as 46 and 47 in my collection, so I was eager for Kavi to be something a bit different, but it wasn’t going to make a bit of difference in whether I got two of her; one for me and one for my granddaughter
I was delighted with the choice of the very underused Marie Grace face mold. I like this face mills very much, and it was not yet used for a dark eyed, dark haired doll even in the new TM renditions though TM117 is close. Don’t know whether that doll has the newer med skin tone like Maritza or the regular.
Kavi looks very much like my granddaughter’s other grandmother , as well as aunts and cousins from that side of the family, all South East Asian Indian. Quite a bit of skin tone variation in the family , ranging from dark to very light on the AG spectrum. My DIL is a Kaya look alike right down to skin tone taking after her father’s side of the family. Too early to say for now where my grandbaby lies in appearances, but I’d say somewhere in the middle. Kavi is an excellent representation of many of her aunts and cousins.
She is also a very very pretty doll. I feel I could have ordered this doll online, as there were not too many variations among the dolls at the NY store. I’m forgiving of minor imperfections, but the overall look and expression has to be pleasing to me with the gaze very important. Most all of the dolls there fit that criterion. I ficus send more in eye and eye lash uniformity and hairline and sacrificed some hair thickness to get one that I felt scored high in those attributes.
One thing that stood out to me is that Kavi’s eyebrows csn look very dark snd heavy in certain lighting. That can give a bit of an eerie appearance. As a Heavy browned Person myself, I have no issues with that but for a bit of universal appeal, it might have been wise to have given her slightly less thick brows. Still the brows as painted give this doll a very open and pleasant expression. Not angry or stark like Maritza or some other dolls may have. Kavi has a sweet pretty face, pleasant, unassuming , sweet. Yes, I like her very much. Much sweeter than Corinne, Maritza, the twins and my Sonali mold dolls. Along the lines of Joss and the adorable TM122.
Starting from the top, this doll has very nice hair. Just the right length, straight but with enough of a wave to style, her hair is a very dark brown black, darker than most of the brunettes. Really appears black for all intents and purposes. Disappointed that she doesn’t have the McKenna no part hair but AG was clever in her meet style. Unique hair do that I may replicate in other dolls. Flattering to her. I give this wig a 10, even though I chose a less full wigged doll . I don’t want to take her out of her meet hair style, because it works so well for her. From photos, I dare say, she looks great with her hair down too
One unusual feature is that Kavi has an unpainted little spot on her bottom lip, to give her yet another unique appearance coupled with this MG mold. I’ll have to check out my other MG mold dolls to see if they have the same. I Nat fill it in with a dab of lipstick to see how that changes her expression
Skin coloring is supposed to be medium, the older regular medium. Well, she’s the lightest medium I have. There was a time AG medium skin tone dolls were difficult for me to distinguish from light in the store display cases and it took the darker lighting of my home to see the difference for me. My medium skin tone dolls are all very distinctly darker than my light skin tone dolls at my home and I’ll have to see how Kavi stands in that environment with my other dolls. My TM62 really looks more dark than medium at my house. She has been my Indian girl so I’ll have to do a comparison with Kavi when I get home. Here in NY, she looks light skin in coloring. Which, in my opinion, is fine. She looks so very pretty just as is. I give her face , expression and features a 10. I don’t know how AG could have made a more unique and attractive doll with this phenotype.
Here’s where the 10s end. Great head but the outfit….umm. Not to my liking at all. Will review in the Next post as this has gone on a bit too long. Hope to add comparison photos with other dolls when I get home. Also, can do a direct side by side comparison then. Right now, am enjoying this doll solo , as is, straight out of the box.
This plush kangaroo has a pouch that holds a plush joey—another name for a baby kangaroo—just like the ones Kira helps care for at the animal sanctuary. SKU#: GVF49 $32
I don’t have Kira’s Kangaroo & Joey, but I’ve looked at the set in stores and thought I’d get a review up while it’s still available.
The kangaroo and joey are very cute stuffed animals. They’re each made of soft grayish brown fuzzy plush, with off-white ears, paws, and bellies, black plastic safety eyes, and soft black noses. The mama kangaroo stands upright, balancing well on her back legs and tail. I really like how her pouch has an elastic band, which makes it easy to tuck her joey safely inside. The joey is very similar in size and construction to the wallaby joey that comes with the Wallaby Care Set, it’s just a different color. Overall I think this pair is very cute, and although the scale might be undersized like many AG animals, I appreciate the quality, functionality, and playability.
Here are some photos from the LA stores (the old one at the Grove and the newer pop up in the Century City mall), showing the relative size and a close up. Sorry the joey is hanging unceremoniously from the mama’s pouch in the displays; I didn’t think to tidy them up at the time.

This plush koala has gray fur and long white fur in its ears. Kira hopes that Bean, the joey she cares for in the animal sanctuary, will become a healthy adult koala like this one. SKU#: GVF50 $26
I don’t have Kira’s Koala, but I’ve looked at it in the stores and thought I’d get a basic review up while it’s still available.
This koala doesn’t have a name and it’s not a specific character in the books, although koalas do play important roles. It’s a very cute stuffed animal, with a white belly, fuzzy white ears, and gray plush body, covered with fur everywhere except the gray fabric feet. It has black plastic safety eyes and a soft black nose. The body isn’t posable; it’s permanently seated with its head turned to one side. I think it’s a very cute, quality stuffed animal with a nice expression. As an adult collector, it’s not something that I want to make the room for, but I think kids would feel differently. At full price, it would be nice if there were some additional playability, like a moving head or maybe some eucalyptus or bamboo stalks; as is, it seems to me like the $18-20 range would be a more appropriate value for the money.
Here are some in-store photos from different angles, showing the height of the koala (which comes up to Kira’s thigh) and the size relative to the kangaroo, as well as a close up of the koala.

Noticed this gal was missing a review thread, so having just received mine in the mail today, I thought I'd put one together. Please excuse her slightly damp hair in the photos
TM 124 is "not-Corinne." She is the first doll to share her face mold, and is almost identical to Corinne but lacks the teal highlights. She has slightly different eyelash paint, which continues down the lower portion of her eye, and her face paint is more vivid.
She has pinwheel brown eyes and a very straight, smooth black/brown wig with tapering layers around her face, which reminds me a lot of #47's wig. It is pretty thin compared to my other dolls. According to AG's website, her skin tone is "light to medium with warm undertones."
Overall I think she is an absolutely gorgeous doll, and I hope those who passed on Corinne due to her blue highlights give #124 a try!

I got this in Fall 2021 at TJMaxx. $4.99! I think it's nice for the price. Not for $36. The headband and shoes are plastic. They are cute though. I worry the glitter will start coming off. But Lanie has been in this since I bought it and now it's 2023 and it's good for display.
Bingandnelsonfan said Claudie would be pretty in brighter colors, and uninoodle certainly proved her right. She may be one of those "looks good in anything" dolls.
Claudie is a beautiful doll! I removed her eyelashes, so I've included a picture where you can really see that if you're interested in removing them. Her hair is GORGEOUS, its very soft and thick and I look forward to playing with it. It seems like it'd be perfect for braiding, since I'm not too worried about having to re-curl her hair as I've done it before on other dolls. She has a wonderful skin tone, very warm and pretty. I highly recommend her! Her blue coat is one of my favorites now because it's so soft.
It appears that the CD racks from the desk are removable, based on this video from the AG page for the twins

I purchased this fun set earlier this week. It’s part of the fantastic AG x Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams collaboration that was officially released on March 2nd (and in stores a few days beforehand). Here’s the official description along with additional thoughts and photos …
SKU#: HMF27 $45
Savor a favorite flavor (or two or three!) with this set designed in collaboration with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams.
A waffle iron with a flat waffle that fits inside—and smells just like the real thing!, a working ticking timer, and a bell that dings when it’s done. I really like how this set enables you to go through almost the entire process of dishing up some delicious waffle cone sundaes, starting with making the waffle on this cute waffle iron. It’s made of lightweight silver colored plastic with the American Girl logo unobtrusively embossed on both sides. The waffle iron surface is black plastic and is textured with the waffle grid, and the top part of the iron opens with a light blue handle. The front of the waffle iron has two knobs or dials that really turn - one for the temperature, and the other for the timer (which also activates the ticking sound). The sound feature is fun and it doesn’t require batteries (yay!), but the quality is questionable. All of the ones I’ve seen make the ticking sound when the timer is turned, but the first one I bought didn’t make a bell sound when the time ran out. It was an easy replacement, and I wouldn’t have been too sad to miss the bell (since that’s not what I bought the set for), but it’s also kind of satisfying to hear the ding when the timer stops ticking, and it's something you may want to check out if you’re buying in person or soon after it arrives if ordering. Grade: B
There’s one flat waffle included, which is golden brown in color and has the sweet smell of waffle which seems to fade a bit over time. The waffle has the textured grid to match the waffle iron on both sides, and one side also has the American Girl logo embossed on it. I appreciate that the flat waffle is included with this set! Grade: B
The waffle iron closes nearly flat with the waffle inside:
A waffle-cone maker to form the two waffle cones, and a waffle-bowl mold and tamper to shape the two waffle bowls. The cone maker, bowl mold, and tamper are all made of thick, off-white plastic that size-wise fit really well with the waffle cones and bowls. These seem very well made, and I think it would be fun (at least for awhile) for kids to act out shaping the pieces, although they might eventually put them aside. Grade: B+
Two waffle cones and two waffle bowls are included. These are proportioned well when compared to the flat waffle, and have the same uneven edges, golden brown color, and grid texture on the outside. The inside of the bowl and cone are smooth. It’s nice that two of each are included! Grade: B+
Two double scoops that fit inside the waffle cones and two triple scoops that fit inside the waffle bowls. The double scoops, as the description says, are shaped to fit inside the cones, with just a bit of overflow at the top of the cone. The flavors aren’t named, but one is white with yellow specks (I’m guessing that this might either be Brown Butter Almond Brittle or Banana Cream Pudding?) and the other is the color of milk chocolate (so I’m guessing Milkiest Chocolate). One of the triple scoops is a pinkish purple that looks very much like Wild Lavender, while the other is a less distinctive cream colored with brown dots that could be Goat Cheese with Red Cherries, Skillet Cinnamon Roll, or maybe some other yummy concoction. All of the ice cream looks pretty realistic in texture and coloring. The triple scoops look similar on top to the scoops that come with Jeni’s Splendid Ice Cream tote, but these aren’t scented, and the bottom is shaped differently (rounded like the shape of the bowl) so these won’t fit in the pint containers. Still pretty yummy-looking, I think. Grade: A
Two bowls that hold waffle bowls and scoops and a cone stand that holds waffle cones and scoops. The bowls are fairly lightweight red and pink plastic, nothing too special in my opinion, but the cone stand is a more substantial translucent blue tinted plastic that really helps highlight the ice cream cones. I don’t see any branding on these., and I think they’re all useful additions to the set. Grade: B+
An ice cream scooper and two spoons that dolls can hold, plus a doll cone holder. The blue and yellow plastic spoons are pretty basic, but essential. Their light weight does mean that the dolls can “hold” the spoons between their fingers - a little awkward but doable. Grade: B
The silver-colored scooper is great! Not only does it have a handle to slide over the doll’s hand, the scooper size matches up perfectly with all the ice cream scoops. I love that attention to detail, whether on purpose or coincidental. Grade: A.
The translucent white cone holder fits over the doll’s fingers, with a cone-sized ring on the opposite side. It’s a clever piece and nice addition; it would be even better if the set came with two of these. Grade: A-
An orange Jeni’s ice cream box with a lid. This box is made of very thin cardboard - actually more like card stock - which is unlikely to hold up to much play. I like the coloring and design (it has labels saying which side is up and something that looks like tape), but what I like most of all is that it can hold all of the pieces of this set, other than the waffle iron. I wish this were more substantial, but I’ll be careful with it and I'm very glad to have this piece to hold all the others. Grade: B
Overall, I’m really enjoying this set and I think it has a lot of play value (both by itself and in combination with the other Jeni’s pieces. I love the concept of creating something (like waffle cones and ice cream!) from start to finish, and I think it would have been even more awesome if the set included some ingredients, recipe books, etc - although that might have been cost prohibitive. Still, as is, I think this set deserves a B+ for the concept, design, playability, and appeal.
The front and back of the trifold pamphlet that comes with the set:
The AG x Jeni’s Ice Creams collaboration hit the stores at the end of February and was officially released on March 2nd. It’s a great collection, and the ice cream tote set might be my favorite part of it. Here’s the official AG description, with additional thoughts and photos:
Showcase cool style and good taste with this set! Includes: A white Jeni’s Splendid Ice Creams tote with signature orange handles and trim, featuring the authentic Jeni’s logo. Three Jeni’s pints with lids and removable ice cream scoops that smell just like the real thing. Don’t forget the spoon to sample each flavor! SKU#: HMF29 $25
First off, the tote is adorable. It’s made of off-white polyurethane with orange piping, orange handles, and the orange Jeni’s Ice Creams logo (and smaller American Girl logo) printed on the side. The relative size, shape, handles, and synthetic leather look remind me of a bowling bag, although the logo and silver interior make it clear that this is supposed to be an insulated freezer bag. It closes with a little silver zipper. I think this piece is very nicely done, and I give it an A.
Silver interior (with some pints inside):
Size relative to Joss:
Next is the ice cream. There are three pints of ice cream, each of which comes in a sturdy, well-made plastic container with a plastic lid. The containers are made of thick white plastic and have the American Girl logo imprinted on the bottom. A Jeni’s sticker goes all the way around the containers (with flavor descriptions, ingredient lists, and nutritional information), and there is another sticker on the top of the lid, that also matches the flavor inside. These seem to be miniaturized versions of the real thing, though I haven’t actually compared them. The containers and lists seem like they’re made to last, and I give them an A.
Inside each pint container is a piece of deliciously scented plastic, which is kind of flat on one side (but with swirls resembling a newly opened container of ice cream), and when turned over, resembles a triple scoop of ice cream. These fit really well in the pint containers, and can also be removed and put in bowls for play. I love the yummy sweet scents, the clever design, and the life-like look of the ice cream! This gets an A+ from me!
The flat side:
When turned over:
Flavors include Buttercream Birthday Cake - “Buttercream frosting, golden cake, and a rainbow of sprinkles.”
Gooey Butter Cake - “Cream cheese ice cream layered with crumbles of vanilla cake and a swirl of caramel-butterscotch sauce.”
Blackout Chocolate Cake - “A chocolate ice cream quadruple threat with cake, extra bitter fudge, and chocolate pieces.”
Here’s what they look like turned over in the pint containers:
And here’s what they look like in the waffle cones and bowl from the waffle cone set (NOT part of this set, but showing it anyway just so you can see how there’s just a little ridge at the bottom, but I think they still easily work with other pieces)!
The last piece of this set is a pink plastic spoon, which is shown in one of the photos above. This is a nice addition, and it’s the same size as the spoons that come with the other Jeni’s sets, but I give it a C+ as it’s nothing super special compared with the other pieces in the set.
With the adorable insulated bag, high quality pint containers, and yummy scents and appearance of the Jeni’s ice cream, this set gets a strong and easy A from me. The design, quality, play vale, and price point are all winners in my book.
I actually like these. I was expecting much worse from reading bings review so I can at least thank her for possibly lowering my expectations and am rather happy with them. They are thin but more a light weight pajama than cheap, to me. They feel the same as Claudie’s, same material. Real working buttons. The bunny slippers are cute, quality may down a bit from past slippers they are stiff and have like a mesh on the inside to help hold the shape, not soft and squishy like Lea’s or Isabelle’s but I can’t say that really takes away from them as they look nice and fit well. The outer fabric is soft and the bunnies are cute. They are pretty roomy too, I put them over Isabelle’s leggings and leotard, just didn’t feel like removing them, and they still have plenty of room. It may be worth it to wait for a sale as prices have gone up on pjs too. I think the old price of 26 or 24 was fair but everything has gone up so it is not surprising pajamas have too.
For that matter, the denim doesn't match the color, weight, or thickness of the Truly Me denim jacket in the Feeling Artsy accessories.
Also, I like removing the plastic tags from the clothes, but when I did this, even though I cut the threads holding the tags to the overalls, not the denim material, there were still small frayed holes in the material where the threads tugged and pulled through the material. This tends to happen with chambray or denim shirting material as well due to the weave of the material.

I have the spoon headed version of the doll, and I think she is precious. Her face is well painted and she has a cheerful expression on her face. Her flowers I could see being a problem for a child who might play with the doll, but I think are secure enough to hold up to display. She and Lissie make a stunning pair.
While I loved the outfit in Felicity’s book, it always looked like it clashed with laser eyed Felicitys. To me, it looks perfect on BF Felicity. I love the material, it is light but sturdy and shines like silk. It is a stunning shade of blue. I am not a fan of the shoes, I do prefer her meet shoes like the cover of Felicity’s Surprise as they (or her brocade slippers) would probably be much more accurate for a 9 year old girl but they were trying to sell pretty gowns to little girls so I will forgive that.
Fiora I don’t have that outfit but they are probably similar, at least they look similar. I do have Blaire’s overalls, joss’s meet shorts and the good vibes skate outfit shorts and they are the same weight as all 3. The good vibes skate shorts look very much like yours.
Thanks Sarah! so I know what they must feel like. Yeah, it's thinner then Courtney's jeans but it's not bad. In a way, the fabric works out better than thick jeans which tends to be very stiff for a doll.
That outfit, is definitely on my "To Buy" list! 😊

As you own the outfit, would you know how the fabric for overalls compares to the shorts in the CYO outfit "Let's explore"?
I have this outfit so it would be easier to get an idea of the fabric.
At first I wasn't sure about this outfit but since I saw the pics without the knee pads, I really like it. I'm also glad that it only comes with the skateboard as it keeps the price down, especially when like you SarahK I don't care about the helmet and knee pads, but I do care about the skateboard!
Thanks for letting me know how the overalls compare to the Let's Explore shorts 😊

“There are two kinds of people, those who love dolls and those who don't yet know that they love dolls." - Gayle Wray”
I got this and was pleasantly surprised! The overalls were better than I was expecting. They looked too short in all photos I saw but I think they must have just hiked up from being handled, or the knee pads, because they are plenty long. I like that they are not too thick, same probably as Blaire’s overalls in weight/thickness. I like the vest too, some snaps would have been nice, and I love the colors. It gives me Punky Brewster vibes. While one side of the vest is nicely stuffed the other is rather flat, so as usual some minor quality control issues. I don’t mind that there are no knee pads and helmet as I would not use them often and I never used them as a kid but different times and of course I make my daughter use them. I was happy to get the skateboard and not have to buy the skate park to get it. It is similar to some older ones we have but the wheels on this one are just a tad smaller. Nicki’s is also maybe an inch longer which is a plus. Definitely my favorite skateboard out of the ones I have because I like the design but it is just a sticker. Pretty sure the other ones just have decal stickers too and they have held up fine so I’m not worried about this one.
With where current prices are and have been, to me, the price is fair of course if you can snag it on a sale even better. I have no regrets purchasing this. I love the style and colors. All the pieces look nice together and it also has a lot of mix and match possibilities. Though I will say I remember having the wide leg overall in 94 and I had a nylon red pullover in the same shade of red as on the vest with a navy front pocket. I wore them together all the time, both from gap. So this outfit seems accurate for mid 90’s too.
While I agree with the previous review about some of the weaknesses of this outfit, my overall impression is much more favorable.
Here’s the website description, along with additional thoughts and photos of each piece:
Nicki builds confidence in her skateboarding skills and tries new tricks as she practices in her signature skater gear.
Includes: A knit T-shirt, wide-leg overalls with silver buckles, a multicolored puffer vest with a collar, and cotton slip-on sneakers A skateboard with a graphic on the bottom and movable wheels
The knit T-shirt is a bright pinkish red color. It’s a medium weight, not super thick but also not as thin as those city T-shirts that were sold for awhile. There’s a single strip of Velcro up the back, and a fabric tag on the inside seam. Grade: B
The wide-leg overalls, in my opinion, are pretty nice. Yes, the fabric is thin, but they hang well and the wide legs look very realistic for the time period. There is no Velcro on them. The waist and legs are roomy - I think they’d probably even fit my big PC doll, although I haven’t tried to confirm this yet. All of the pockets are real, including the divided bib pocket and the two side pockets, and the straps attach with silver buttons (unless your 90s girl decides to wear one of the straps undone)! Grade: A- (taking off just a bit for the lack of back pockets)
Side pockets (and the plastic oval tag):
From the back:
Bib pockets:
Another from the front:
With the bib pulled down, you can see the reverse side of the overall fabric, and also see that the T-shirt goes down to the doll’s hips:
The multicolored puffer vest has a base that is a slightly darker magenta color than the T-shirt. There’s a chevron design in the front with magenta on the bottom, topped with a thick stripe of golden yellow, a thick stripe of frost blue, and then the final stripe of navy blue on the top, and a navy blue collar all around. As mentioned in the previous review, there is no closure on the vest. I WANT to like this piece. The colors and design seem right to me, and I love the idea of it, but I just don’t love the way it looks on the doll. I don’t hate it either, but something about the fit and how it rides up and swallows her neck just seems a bit off to me. Grade: C
Puffy enough to stand up on its own:
The cotton slip-on sneakers are fine. They’re the same dark pinkish red as the T-shirt and they slip on easily and fit well. I don’t think the style is very cute, but I do appreciate the reinforced edges around the opening (which should help them last longer) AND that the shoes fit into the plastic bands of the skateboard. Grade: B
Fits in the skateboard:
Color matches the T-shirt:
The plastic skateboard has a smooth, black deck with two clear plastic straps to go over the doll’s feet. It’s light green around the edges, and it has a green and purple plaid design on the bottom (with smileys, yin and yang designs, alien heads, and other decorations). I don’t love the design on the bottom, but I really like the translucent yellow wheels and the silver colored trucks that allow the doll to carefully balance, steer, and skate on the board. Grade: B
Finally, since this outfit is for a historical doll, it comes with a pamphlet that helps put the outfit in context.
Overall, despite not loving the vest as much as I’d like and feeling kind of “meh” about the shoe style and board design, do think this is a nice set. I especially like the overalls and T-shirt, which I think are really versatile and have lots of mix-and-match possibilities. I also really appreciate the inclusion of the skateboard, and that buying the skateboard park would add a second board! (The helmet and pads being part of a separate set doesn’t really bother me either - in fact, I’m kind of glad not to have to devote the space to these - although I recognize that the stock photos could be confusing.) My overall grade for this outfit would be a B/B- if purchased at full retail price, but I would raise this to a B+ if purchased at a discount or with rewards.

Released February 2023.
Isabel Hoffman is growing up in the late ‘90s in Seattle with her twin, Nicki, by her side—and they’re opposites in so many ways! Isabel loves dancing, pop music, glitter, and all things pink. She prefers pink and preppy fashions, even when they make her stand out from the crowd. Can Isabel stand up for her style and embrace her “girl power”? Premium features: An 18’’ Isabel™ doll with green eyes that open and close, and medium-length blonde hair with layers and platinum highlights. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. Includes: A cropped purple cable-knit sweater with an attached pink pinstripe collared shirt, a multicolored plaid skirt, white knee socks, pink platform shoes, and cotton underwear.
Isabel Hoffman Doll Price: $115.00 SKU#: 02BUN136
THUMBS UP ALL THE WAY! Get over the fact that AG wasn’t creative enough to come up with a new name, pick your own and have fun, because she's adorable!
Both Isabel and her twin are hard to resist. They look straight ahead (begging to be the one to go home with you), not down at the ground like Josefina. You all know we’re suckers for the Joss face mold, and that straight-on gaze is a big part of the draw for us. Oh, did I mention that? They’re definitely the Joss face mold. Their skin tone is the regular light #10 that you’d know from Julie, Rebecca, Corinne, et al. Don’t let AG’s retouched and/or overlit stock photos fool you — they are not the #05 light tone (like Blaire). Both of these straight wigs are fuller than you’d expect from recent AG releases and have a nice silky body about them. We think they’re pretty nice wigs (for AG wigs), not skimpy or see-through. These are two of the cutest dolls (if you like the Joss face)! If you want someone to choose the doll for you, give the Chicago AG store a call and ask for a Personal Shopper. There’s no extra charge to the buyer, and a number of people use them. It’s a service offered by that store, and the PS have good reputations.
I know that the majority of forum posts seems to push Nicki out in front as the favorite, but you really might consider taking another look at Isabel before you make a decision to buy just one. She’s even more adorable in person, with that unique wig (subtle two-tone blonde with a center part) and nice green decal eyes (like mid-Mattel Felicity dolls). This doll has a lot of personality that just didn’t show up in the stock photos.
You won’t be able to do much styling of the hair. She’ll definitely need a headband or hair clip at the sides to keep it from hanging in her face. And they layered a 1″ hank of hair at the front left side of the wig about an inch shorter than the rest. They were, obviously, going for that look when girls pulled their hair back and left one front hank of shorter hair hanging free and loose at the side of their faces. She has a really happy look, nothing shy or serious. Her face paint was pretty consistent (e.g., no blips on the lip paint or eye make-up).
THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN PICKING YOUR DOLL There were two different “looks” for Isabel, like many of the AG dolls have had, but it was difficult to pinpoint the differences this time. Usually we know if it’s the thin-head-round-head thing. Or the wig line. This time, though, we really couldn’t tell. Everything looked all right, and there were thin faces and round faces, but it was something else that eluded us. We looked through every box in the store and felt the stock was pretty evenly split for the two looks. Her left eye has a bit of a problem with the socket being a taddy bit too large, so the eyeball innards tended to be slightly exposed. They’ve had dolls with worse (Kavi, for instance, is atrociously bad in the left eye). If this matters to you, then a personal shopper in Chicago might be called for here. We had no trouble finding one without the problem. This doll is a real charmer!
FWIW — We just unboxed Isabel to find out that she a wig issue. Apparently, AG took a side-part wig and put it on the doll as a center part without re-trimming it. This means that the wig runs at an angle in the back and is shorter on the left and longer on the right. We’re planning to remove the wig and put it back on where it’s supposed to be or use it on another doll. I won’t know yet until we finish all these reviews. We didn’t notice it at the store, but you barely got to see her without something on her head or one side of her hair pushed behind her back. (Perhaps the display people noticed the problem and were trying to minimize it?) Looking over all the pix we took, you can clearly see it once you know to look for it. They should have told the hairstylists at the store about their intent, because we just now fixed her hair the way we think they meant it to be and she’s even cuter than before. You could choose to trim the back to be straight or just live with it. I definitely wouldn’t let this turn you off, unless you can’t stand that stray hair hanging down in front of her face. She’s soooooo cute, oh my . . . (Mom just told Sis that if she doesn’t want it like this, Mom wants it for her “Kitty” character, wig and all.)
And here she is with another hairstyle and outfit on -- just to show how irresistible she is! This wig gives her real personality, and we're keeping her as is.
MEET OUTFIT The Meet Outfit is similar in quality to what’s been released over the last couple of years, like Kira’s Meet, etc. Panties are the same small pink TM ones. One-piece top, skirt, knee socks and shoes. The top is a one-piece job, with a woven blend sewn to a knit sweater bodice (front and back). There is no full blouse under the vest. Velcros up the back from the bottom of the knit to the top, but the shirt hanging below the vest just hangs open in the back. Buttons in the front are just for looks. The bottoms of the sleeves have a hem with no closure. The mini, a-line skirt is made of a thin woven fabric that velcros at the top in back. The white, stretchy knee socks look like other AG socks. The shoes have a soft vinyl top with a hard-plastic split sole (same color all around) and velcro closures on the straps. Surprisingly, she stands really well on her own in those tall shoes. (Is the height of these shoes because her book says she’s an inch taller than her sister?)

Released February 2023.
Growing up in Seattle in the late ’90s, Nicki Hoffman loves alternative rock music, skateboarding, and making zines, which are like homemade magazines. She couldn’t be more different from her twin sister, Isabel, but they’re still best friends. Nicki feels shy about making new friends and is worried about what will happen when the year 1999 turns to 2000. Will she be able to conquer her fears and achieve her “girl power” goal before the new millennium? Premium features: An 18’’ Nicki™ doll with blue eyes that open and close, and long straight brown hair with two blonde face-framing highlights. She has a soft cotton body, and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. Includes: A gray heather-knit T-shirt with purple binding at the sleeves and neckline, a navy knit T-shirt dress with a star graphic on the front, a purple plaid flannel shirt, white ankle socks, platform sneakers with white soles, and cotton underwear.

She’s even cuter and more personality-filled than she looks in AG’s photos, and that’s saying a lot. Her wig is about two inches longer than Chrissa’s wig with straight, un-layered, plain brown hair and a center part. The “chunky” highlights (which we didn’t like then or now) are just what you remember from the time of the millenium. If you’re into highlights, I can tell you they actually match at the part and aren’t as in-your-face as some of the colored ones. Her eyes are the light-blue pinwheel version like the current AG dolls (not the old-fashioned ice blue). Her lip color is appropriately but only slightly darker than Isabel’s, reminiscent of Grace. (Sis says you could easily replace your old Grace doll with Nicki and a quick re-wig.) Like Isabel, this doll is very happy and friendly looking.
THINGS TO LOOK FOR WHEN PICKING YOUR DOLL Aside from having the different looks that ALL American Girl dolls have in their boxes (they all want to be the one you pick, you know), Nicki was as pretty consistently nice throughout the boxes as Isabel. Her wig does not have the same part issue that we just described on Isabel. She didn’t seem to have the eye-socket trouble, but she did have lip paint inconsistencies. If you don’t mind that the top lip has one large and one small “lobe” (about 3/4 of what was in the Columbus store had this issue), then you are GOOD TO GO! If it would bother you, then you might consider a call to a personal shopper in the Chicago store.
And here she is with another hairstyle and outfit on -- just to show how irresistible she is! I actually ended up liking this wig a lot more in real life than I expected to from pictures.
Nicki's Meet Outfit is very nice quality and nicer than expected. Panties are the same small pink TM ones.
Surprisingly Nicki’s Meet dress is actually two pieces which both velcro up the back: a full-length t-shirt with a little knit t-dress over it. (I don’t know why AG didn’t show this in their stock photo, where it appears to be one piece.) It’s one of the cutest girl-shaped t-shirts that AG’s ever made.
It also mixes with other pieces very well. Here are some samples showing it with Isabel's Beret, a pair of old JLY boots and a pair of JLY embroidered jeans.

Released February 2023.
At first, Isabel tries tennis just to prove that she’s coordinated—but she quickly comes to love-love it. Includes: A dress with an attached argyle sweater vest with a cotton collar, a pleated white tennis skirt, white ankle socks with multicolored stripes, cotton briefs, and white tennis shoes. A tennis racket and a tennis ball.
Isabel's Tennis Outfit Price: $40.00 SKU#: HNR78
Really cute! The one-piece sleeveless dress was made to look like a vest over a short white tennis dress, and it has matching white panties. The racket is plastic with a hand holder on the grip and is the same as the one in the big-ticket item (except that the rackets are colored differently). The plastic tennis ball matches the ones in the big-ticket item. The socks are white, tennis-length knit socks. The adorable tennis shoes (think Ked’s) appear to be a white re-make of Luciana’s Flight Suit shoes, made in vinyl instead of canvas.
Something to Think About: You probably won’t want to ever wash this dress. Think back to the days when you had one-piece tops made of two different fabrics. I’m thinking blouses with knit collars and sweaters with cotton shirt collars. You washed them, and not only did things shrink differently, but you never could get the wrinkles out of the cotton bits. I’m convinced this is what will happen with this tennis dress. BUT, if you don’t think you’re going to need to wash it, it’s really cute!

Released February 2023.
Nicki builds confidence in her skateboarding skills and tries new tricks as she practices in her signature skater gear. Includes: A knit T-shirt, wide-leg overalls with silver buckles, a multicolored puffer vest with a collar, and cotton slip-on sneakers. A skateboard with a graphic on the bottom and movable wheels.
Thumbs down from us! The overalls have the usual small velcro tabs on the waist sides and come with a short knit t-shirt. The cotton boat-type shoes look nice but may not fit with socks (just a thought, since they don’t come with any and resemble recent releases that are too small to wear with socks). The “puffer” vest has no closure, just hangs open in the front. The skateboard is identical to the one in the big-ticket item in the Twins collection.
Mom, Sis and I all had the same opinion, once we got up close to the doll in the store that was wearing the Skateboard outfit. It was unanimous that this outfit is not worth any amount of money TO US. The fabric on the overalls is this cheap thin cotton that doesn’t resemble duck or denim in any way. Because it was so thin, it didn’t seem to hang right on any of the dolls in the store. The buckles are not adjustable, and we thought that AG didn’t give quite enough fabric for them to fit very well. And if you like short t-shirts, then this is just what you’re looking for. The shoes were cute, but the vest was a huge letdown to Sis and me. We (and our friends) wore a LOT of these puffer vests. But they had BIG zippers (BIG) that, when closed, made a visual stripe all the way up the front of the vest. AG’s vest doesn’t even puff, and the fronts are just plain straight-stitch hems, like the bottom of your sheet. Back to the old ’90s pieces we own. Bummer.
*I’d like to make a comment that is less review and more just thought. I’m really disgusted that American Girl photographed Nicki in this outfit with the helmet and knee/elbow pads on. There isn’t one single photo on their website of Nicki in just what you get in the outfit box. To get the missing pieces, you have to buy the $175 big-ticket item. Imagine sitting there looking through the catalog with your little girls and they get excited about the doll’s “outfit”. If the adult bothers to scroll down to read the disclaimer at the bottom of the page, what are they going to say? “Sorry, honey, that outfit costs $215. Let’s see if we can find something else.” For all the buyers who don’t read the fine print, I hope their kids aren’t too disappointed when they get the boxed outfit and it’s missing the helmet and pads. Why didn’t AG just offer the complete outfit as shown as a separate purchase? Or the skateboard, helmet and pads as a separate set? And AG’s main stock photo for the big-ticket set is just as deceptive, because they photoshopped it to look like you get two sports set-ups. In fact, you get one reversible floor, so you can only have one set-up going at a time. Unless you use the floor for the tennis court and just leave the plastic skateboard pieces sitting by themselves. Unfortunately, that’s not what AG implies in their photo. American Girl has stepped over all the limits for me with this deceptive advertising, and I’m really bothered by this growing lack of ethics.

Released February 2023.
Isabel and Nicki love heading to the park where they each can pursue their favorite sports. Isabel wants to learn to play tennis and show off her sportiness, and Nicki is determined to do tricks on her skateboard to impress the local skaters. Both twins can perfect their skills with this 2-in-1 tennis court and skate-spot set. Premium features: A foldable park “ground” with tennis-court art on one side and skate-spot art on the other. The tennis court net snaps onto round bases. A tennis-ball launcher that can shoot the six included tennis balls over the net so Isabel can practice her forehands and backhands. A large ramp with a built-in rail, a small ramp, three rectangle skate platforms, stairs with a built-in rail, and a separate rail that can be configured into a custom skating setup for Nicki. Includes: A tennis racket that Isabel can hold and a basket to hold tennis balls. A skateboard with artwork on the bottom and loops to hold Nicki’s feet. A helmet with art on one side, two elbow pads, and two knee pads that Nicki can wear. An extra-large sticker sheet to decorate the ground and skate park platforms. Weight: 1.5 lbs Dimensions: Court: W: 38"x H: 25.5" Ball launcher: W: 10" x H: 8.5" x D: 6"
Isabel and Nicki's 2-in-1 Tennis Court and Skate Spot Price: $175.00 SKU#: HNR77
This set is a lot more impressive in person than it is in the photos. And it probably has a lot of play value for kids. Can’t imagine this won’t do well at Christmas time! This is a one-or-the-other set, the flooring printed to look like Skateboarding on one side, Tennis on the other. AG’s main stock photo for this item is deceptive and makes it look like you can have both things set up at once, with both dolls enjoying their own sports. That is not the case with this set. The thick, shiny “ground” flooring (think Blaire’s farm floor) is folded in half (foldable) and reversible, so you can only have one at a time (with flooring) set up like in AG’s photos. However, if you want just one or the other, you’ll probably be pretty happy with this.
SKATEBOARDING The Skate Spot uses one side of the dual-purpose mat and has plastic ramps that sit on top. It has a sticker sheet to decorate the plastic pieces, a skateboard identical to the one in the Skateboarding Outfit set, a plastic helmet and plastic knee and elbow pads. The plastic used to make the skate-spot pieces are not a solid hard plastic but a stiffer soft-plastic rim. Nicer than you’d expect, actually, as long as you don’t let your little ones sit or stand on them. They’re a lot bigger than you think, too, and the contents of the set took up the better part of a 4×6′ (?) display top. Elizabeth agreed to pose for scale, because we were really impressed with the size of the actual play area. And you’d have this spread out even more in your house, I’m sure. The ramps are your typical thin plastic and fully movable for you to set up wherever you want. We couldn’t get even a glimpse of the tennis-court side of the floor, because it’s pretty stiff (think thinner than Scenes & Settings pages).
TENNIS You get a plastic tennis ball machine (launcher) that shoots the six (seven, if you buy the outfit) plastic balls at the doll. It isn’t electric or battery-operated. See that round pink disc on the back of it? You turn that plastic piece and a spring winds inside. Once you’ve wound it enough, the balls start shooting out (quite quickly and far, according to a store staff member). Hopefully, it’ll last as long as a modern kid’s attention span. Very nice that it doesn’t need batteries or a wall outlet, though.
The tennis balls are made of a ping-pong-ball type of lightweight plastic. (They bear little resemblance to tennis balls, other than a non-descript molding, for those of you wanting to use them for display. And they’re definitely too large a scale for the 18″ dolls. I’m sure they have to be like that to work in the machine, but I just want you to know you’re not getting tennis balls like Molly had.) There’s a short plastic net that sits flat on the floor, and you really don’t even need the tennis-court flooring. The doll can hold a tennis racket that is identical (in a different colorway) to the one with the Tennis outfit (sold separately). The last thing to mention is a chunky plastic basket for holding the balls.
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT This big set came with a lot of stickers to slap down where you will, but we don’t recommend using them. We arrived at the store one hour after opening on release day, and all the stickers were curled up at the edges and/or falling off. We tried to stick them back down, but they had a post-it kind of sticky on the back and didn’t stay down for more than a minute or two. Some of what you see is printed on the flooring, but a few things on the floor and everything on the plastic pieces are stickers.
If I were buying this set for my kids, I’d get a piece of tile or carpet that looked like asphalt and put it under the large skateboard pieces. That way, I could use the tennis-court side of the floor and set that up in a separate play area. Mom was really into buying press-n-stick tiles from Lowes to butt up to each other (without the adhesive paper removed, of course) to delineate certain play areas. Made everything more fun, especially Playmobil! I think she’d approve of a stack of carpet squares to put under the skateboard area. Actually, even as adults, we have a large stack of inexpensive 24″ carpets square from Menards that has colors ranging from gray to brown to orange to water blue. You’ve seen them many times in our Photo Stories. They can look like sand or dirt or paving or rugs or water . . . you name it.
When the photos were first leaked for this set, I figured $300 give or take. Having now seen it up close and in person, I think that at $175, it might be worth it for even just one of the sports. Knowing that the flooring is not really necessary (tennis moreso than skateboarding, but both still do-able without), you might be able to sell the other “sport” off and recoup a little of your money. Local would be better for the skateboarding portion, because those pieces are large in volume and shipping would be a killer. The tennis stuff would be easy enough to ship

Released February 2023.
From late-night bedroom dance parties to lounging in her room writing zines (homemade magazines), Nicki stays comfy in her skate-inspired PJ set. Includes: A heathered cotton night shirt with striped raglan sleeves and a graphic on the front. Plush monkey slippers.
Very cute and just right for the period (like Courtney’s). A nice t-shirt-knit fabric with really cute monkey slippers. If I were into jammies for my dolls, I’d buy this and/or Courtney’s Care Bears for both dolls. The only issue we saw was that this nightshirt is very short (not like ’90s versions), so you’d probably want to add shorts or pants under it for a real ’90s look.

Released February 2023.
From late-night bedroom dance parties to sleeping in on Saturday mornings, Isabel feels cozy in this flowery PJ set. Includes: A cotton multicolored floral-print button-down pajama top and pants. Pink plush bunny slippers.
I’m lost for words. Very thin cotton/poly woven blend. One of those embarrassing moments for AG. I do not recommend them. At any price. Sorry. There is no quality here at all. I would recommend purchasing Courtney's Care Bears nighty or a second of Nicki's Nightshirt. Either one of these seems a better option to me!

Released February 2023.
Nicki’s side of the bedroom shows off her favorite color—purple!—and her love of music. Includes: A bright-purple inflatable chair. A pretend personal CD player that opens and closes, two pretend CDs that fit inside, two CD cases, and headphones that attach to the CD player that Nicki can wear. A Grin Pin banner with printed art of real ’90s American Girl Today™ Grin Pins. A pretend alarm clock-radio with buttons and dials and a pretend digital screen. A printed paper zine—like a homemade magazine—that is a doll-sized version of the one Nicki creates in her story.
The Columbus AG store had most items displayed in cubes, so we couldn't touch anything but the big-ticket item pieces. This is a visual review, based on our having handled most previous American Girl pieces.
You seem to get a lot for $50 in this set of plastic accessories, compared to other sets that AG sells. The inflatable chair doesn’t look like it would hold the weight of a doll for very long (think Jess’s kayak), but the novelty of it will have nostalgic value for a lot of you. There’s a pretend bedside clock radio (don’t know where you’re supposed to put it without buying the computer desk or making a nightstand, but it’s cute enough). There’s a Walkman with headphones that opens and closes but doesn’t play and two CDs in cases to put in it. You get Nicki’s “zine” (a homemade magazine, popular in the ’90s). The Grin Pins poster is a paper replica of the original cloth banner that PC sold. (Since so many people have asked, it does not have the missing sticker pins to stick on, that we could find. It appears to be just a paper poster.)
