Unfortunately, I have to agree with several of the comments in the previous review of Angelo's Bakery.
I thought I could get past the drawbacks, and when there was a big promotion and sale several months ago that brought the total cost down to a little more than half the original cost, I decided to bring it home. I figured that I might dissemble the side panels, sand down the plastic wedges, and figure out a different way to reattach the panels so that it could be stored more easily. I mention this just to show the lengths I was willing to go to in order to make the bakery work, as there are several aspects I really like about it. However, I never even fully unpackaged it, because I just got so annoyed with certain parts of the design and construction and I didn't want to keep something that annoying in my house. I ended up packaging it back up and driving it back to the store a couple of days later.
Here are my thoughts on the major parts of the set ...
The three-panel backdrop: I really like the look of this and how well the colors go with Claudie's collection. I think it's a cute idea to make one side the storefront and the other side the kitchen, and I like the details of the shop name, tiling, stained glass, piping, and brickwork. The orientation of the hinges on the side panels doesn't bother me (and for the record, it does come pre-assembled and folded at right angles). I think the printed images of bread and baked goods in the cabinets look kind of silly, but they aren't a dealbreaker. I wish they would have more subway tiles or brickwork instead of the printed cabinet images, or even better would be some snap-on shelving, and I also wish the drawers on the 3-D cabinet really worked (although I understand that that's the opening to the oven on the other side).
The oven is the part of the design that I really had a hard time getting over, and really why I ended up returning the piece. Firstly, if it were a stand-alone oven, or even if it were pretty much as it is now but only had some minor little adjustments, then the panels could fold all the way closed and this would be 1000x better. The fact that it has little pieces sticking out (like the oven shelf and handle) that don't need to stick out, and that the whole thing is less convenient as a result, was just aggravating. Secondly, I did test out raising and lowering the oven door a few times, and it worked perfectly - at first. After four or five tries, and being pleasantly surprised by how smoothly it worked, I noticed there started to be more resistance and that it didn't work as smoothly. It went downhill quickly. This was literally within the first couple minutes and I didn't keep trying it, but it gave me significant doubts about its durability. I was already annoyed by the design of the oven, so having it apparently not function properly was the icing on the cake and sealed the decision to return for me. If at some point this is redesigned, I would suggest giving the panels the ability to fold flat by removing the parts that stick out, which could include a fold-down shelf at the opening of the oven, a removable metal oven door handle, and a better functioning oven door.
Moving on to the furniture, I never unpackaged the (non rolling) shelf, but the low baking table doesn't bother me (or at least it doesn't in the store displays), and I actually really like the bakery counter. The counter, with its nice curved edged and fancy gold "Angelo's Bakery" painted on the case, was one of the reasons that I really wanted to purchase this set. I don't think that Maryellen's Bakery Case would be a good substitute because each of these seem decade-specific, but if I can get this one on the secondary market for a reasonable price someday, I'll be a happy camper. (Or if AG redesigns the bakery to be more functional!) I was sad to package this piece back up because I really like it - even though it is a really big piece of inexpensive-feeling plastic.
And finally, the food and little accessories are a mixed bag. I never unpackaged these, but I looked at them in the store display and through the plastic packaging, and most of the food looks ridiculously unrealistic, as you can see in the photos from the previous review. That said, there are some pieces - the rye bread, the bags of flour, and the boxes of baking soda and rolled oats - that are pretty nice. I also really like the price cards, with their 1920s-appropriate type face, and some of the baking utensils seem perfectly fine to me and like they would have good play value. Since returning the bakery, I purchased some of these items on the secondary market. There are many more pieces that don't appeal to me at all than there are pieces that do appeal to me; I just want to mention that there are a few pieces that are in my opinion kind of nice.
Overall, Angelo's Bakery has some nice features as well as some really unfortunate drawbacks. Ultimately, I decided not to keep it, despite being able to get it at an appealing price point, because of a few small design and construction decisions that prevented me from being able to store it and use it easily, even with the modifications that I would have been willing to make. (Not to mention the unrealistic food, which I was also willing to overlook.) Taking into account the appearance, quality, play value, and importance to story, my overall grade for Angelo's Bakery would sadly be around a D, and that's assuming the oven door actually works. However, some of the individual piece would earn a higher grade from me, and I would happily reconsider purchasing this piece if it undergoes a design revision later.
I guess it's worth noting that although the side panels don't fold all the way closed, the low bakery table can fit under the oven shelf in the back and between the side panels when they're closed at 90 degree angles. I don't know if this is coincidence or an intentional attempt to make storage/packaging take up less room. Either way, it just wasn't enough clever enough to win me over, but it could be good for someone who doesn't intend to fully store this piece away.

I bought the 2023 rereleased version of this outfit. Normally, I prefer snaps to Velcro, but after reading the reviews I decided to make an exception in this case. It's absolutely darling! The colour is perfect for Molly 😊 Overall, I'm pretty impressed with the rereleased outfits since AG's "return to quality". Good materials, and excellent fit on chubbier PC dolls. 😁

This item was part of Samantha's collection from 2014 until its retirement in 2017. Before becoming part of Samantha's collection, it had been part of Cécile and Marie-Grace's NOLA collection from 2012 to 2014. Reviews of the item while part of that collection can be found HERE.Like other young ladies of her day, Samantha uses this pretty parasol to shade her face from the sun. It’s made of white lace, opens and closes easily, and has a sculpted golden handle that the Samantha doll can really hold.

The Shimmering Silver Holiday Collector Doll appeared on the AG website on the night of September 24th. Although she arrived here shortly afterwards, there’s something about this doll that seemed like her photos should be taken in a forest, so I’m just now getting this review up. The quick version of the review is that I adore both the doll and the outfit. The longer version, including the official AG description (in bold), is below. As stunning as freshly fallen snow sparkling in the moonlight, this collector doll exudes ethereal beauty with its pure platinum hues, draped gown, and more than 100 Swarovski® crystals. The 2023 limited-edition* holiday doll is a shimmering addition to the American Girl® Collector Series. Premium features: An 18” Truly Me™ doll with gleaming gray eyes that open and close smoothly. Her long wavy white hair is styled into a partial braid that cascades into a side ponytail accented by wispy, face-framing tendrils. She comes with silver glitter eye makeup and a pair of silver metal and Swarovski® crystal drop earrings in her pierced ears. This doll has regular light colored vinyl with the Marie-Grace face mold. The vinyl and cloth are a good color match, the body cloth is good quality with a big 2017 body tag, and there aren’t any wrinkles or puckering at the neck. I’m not usually a fan of the Marie-Grace face mold, but something about the gray eyes, side part, and waist-length tendrils somehow seems to give the face mold a different look, at least to me. Here’s a close up of the silver glitter eye makeup. I ordered my doll online, and her eye makeup is pretty even and well applied. I wasn’t sure if I’d like the glitter makeup, but I actually think it suits her just fine. I do wish the pink glitter was confined just to the lips; in some photos it looks like there might be a bit of glitter on the pink part inside her mouth, but this isn’t noticeable in real life. Her gorgeous platinum hair has some waist-length tendrils hanging down in front, and two small braids that are pulled back into a low ponytail over her right shoulder. From the rear/side, you can see that the waves of her ponytail go down to her ankles. I usually keep this in a very loose partial braid to avoid tangling. I would have been happy with waist length hair all around, but I can’t deny how striking her long platinum locks are! A graceful, pleated silver-metallic gown featuring majestic draping at the shoulders and a silver waistband adorned with a medley of clear, amethyst, and fuchsia Swarovski® crystals.Gorgeous, just gorgeous. I love how the accordion pleats pick up the light, and how the draping, neckline, and cape shoulders add drama! The wide belt covers the gathers where the top portion of the gown meets the skirt. It”s not removable, but it’s only stitched in at the back where the gown has its Velcro closure, so the belt can be slightly adjusted upward or downward. The clear, amethyst, and fuchsia crystals on the front of the belt match the crystals on the earrings, necklace, and arm cuff (all seen in this photo) and the crystals on the headpiece and sandals. A view from the side/rear shows how the cape arms are long enough to trail on the ground, while the rest of the gown just dusts the top of her feet. Each of the cape arms is sewn into less than two inches of arm hole along the top of the shoulder, but they”re about 10 inches wide at the bottom, and can be stretched even wider thanks to the accordion pleats. A metal headpiece with clear Swarovski® crystals and a center drop pendant that falls across her forehead, a silver metal necklace with Swarovski® crystal pendant, a silvery arm cuff embellished with Swarovski® crystals, and a pair of glittery silver sandals with Swarovski® crystals. The headpiece is probably my favorite accessory. It’s a nice, heavy piece of metal with delicate detailing all around. I really like the leaf shapes that are embellished with clear crystals, and the clear diamond shaped crystal that drops in the center. (The official AG video that I’ve linked at the end of the review shows this pendant pointing up, if anyone wants to see its versatility.) The necklace is on a silver metal chain and has a pendant with two round fuchsia crystals and a clear diamond crystal. These echo but don’t exactly replicate the pattern of her removable earrings (which have two of each shape in an alternating pattern). The doll arrives wearing her necklace, but it’s tightened up with a clear band so it fits more like a choker. I took the photo near the top of this review with the black background before I realized this, and I prefer the longer look where the necklace fills up more of the gown’s low neckline. I read the product specifications before ordering, so I knew that the arm cuff was plastic (except for the crystals) and I wasn’t surprised or disappointed by this. I think the plastic might make it easier to put on and remove from the doll without causing damage. I was a little surprised by the somewhat loose fit of the arm cuff, and by its tendency to slide down to her elbow. It’s more of an annoyance than a complaint, but otherwise I love the design. These gladiator-type sandals have silver colored straps, thick rubbery platforms, lots of crystal embellishments that coordinate with the rest of the outfit, and a strip of Velcro up the back to close them. It’s always nice when you can take shoes from one outfit and mix and match them with others. These, in my opinion, are not those kind of shoes. However, they do seem well suited for this outfit, and while they’re not my favorite style, I don’t mind them too much either. Also includes: A silver satin clutch purse with foil printing and a wrist strap A pair of heather-gray cotton underwear A numbered certificate of authenticityI’m including all of these in one photo, taken inside of her box with some of the doll care instructions visible. The clutch is a nice complement to the outfit and the well-placed elastic strap and light weight make it easy for the doll to hold. The light weight comes in part due to the silvery plastic closure, which is a positive asset for her being able to hold it easily but might be a negative feature in terms of quality or durability. (My doll seems to be floating somewhere between elven/fairy princess and mythological Greek goddess, neither/none of whom need a clutch purse, so I’m not bothered much by it’s durability.) The cotton underwear seems to be a nice quality, and I think that the certificate of authenticity is a nice feature to go along with elevated price of this doll. The certificate is also numbered, telling you which of the “no more than 10,000 dolls created worldwide” you have. I decided to show the arm cuff in the photo, too, in case anyone was curious about what it looks like when not being worn. Here she is all packaged up: And the back of the box: Overall, I’m really happy with this doll. It’s a very unusual pick for me, as I’m not typically a fan of the Marie-Grace face mold or of super long hair, or of dolls that can’t easily time travel to different historical periods. But there’s just something so unique and magical about both the doll and the outfit, and I’m really glad she made her way here. SKU#: HPX03 $265 Official AG video linked here

I wonder why no hat or helmet. All the other older ones have one or the other. It comes with her stable. IIRC, Saige had a hat and helmet set sold separately. Not in one big set. Oh, I see! I am thinking farther back to the olde Equestrian Outfits, where they had a riding helmet. I guess this set could also be used for just any doll for a western vibe, not necessarily for just riding.

$40 From AG: Lila’s coach McKenna encourages her to go to horse camp because riding is good cross-training for gymnastics. Lila is excited to wear this outfit to camp—especially the new boots Mom got for her! Includes: A button-front denim jacket with multicolored sequined sleeves, a collar, and pocket flaps A light-pink knit tee with a colorful horseshoe graphic, a pair of black leggings, and a pink bow headband A pair of sparkly pink riding boots Please note: Doll sold separately. SKU#: HRR38 This outfit doesn’t include much for the $40 (eeek!) price tag. I was prepared to send it back if it didn’t measure up. To my surprise, it’s staying here! The denim jacket is so cute! It has working buttons and real albeit tiny pockets on the front. The sequin detail goes around the back of the collar and sleeves. This piece is made well and fits great! So cute! Peep the star detail on the buttons! Cute! The tee is pink with a horse shoe graphic on the front. The graphic is a standard iron on type. The material is a nice weight, and the ribbed collar is a nice detail. The shirt hangs long like a T-shirt should, unlike the crop tops of recent (I’m looking at you, NFL tees. Sigh.) Great quality and fit. The leggings are nylon spandex like something you’d get from one of the current popular athleisure companies. They fit well, covering the bum and are long enough to be pants. No cheating with capri length leggings here! The boots are vinyl with a hard plastic sole. They Velcro up the backs. I don’t know that hot pink sparkle riding boots are realistic, but they’re cute and fit well even with the leggings tucked in. The headband is a standard AG hair accessory. It has an elastic bit around the back and goes on easy enough. I always appreciate a hair accessory. Outfit score: A Even at the $40 price, I think this outfit is worth it. The pieces are well made, especially the jacket. Everything in this set is well fitting.

$115 From American Girl: As the new girl on her gymnastics squad, Lila wonders if she’s good enough to make the Xcel Gold Team. When she gets the chance to go to horse camp, she finds creative ways to train for gymnastics and forms an unexpected friendship that boosts her confidence. Premium features: An 18" Lila™ doll with amber eyes that open and close, and curly caramel-colored hair with blonde highlights styled in two half ponytails in front. She has a soft cotton body and her movable head and limbs are made of smooth vinyl. Also includes: A sparkly pink knit mock turtleneck tank top, pale-pink track pants with sparkly striped trim on the sides, light-purple platform sandals, and a pair of underwear A blue beaded bracelet, a pink cord bracelet with three multicolored gems, and two soft-pink hairbands An illustrated paperback book, My Journal by Lila Monetti, that tells Lila’s story of gymnastics and horse camp SKU#: HRR30 When I first saw photos of Lila, I knew I had to have her. Amber eyes and freckles is a combination I don’t have already. And, her hair is gorgeous! I ordered her just a few days after her (early) release in October 2023. The doll is lovely in person with feathered eye brows and the new style of eye makeup/painted lashes. Her freckles are subtle, not too dark, and super cute. AG should use amber eyes more often. They’re so pretty. Her hair is amazing! It is caramel colored with highlights, and loose curls. The wig is very nice, and I’m sure little girls will love styling it. The front has a sewn part, which stops at the crown of her head. Her meet hairstyle is pulled into two small ponytails on either side of the part and should be easy to re create after styling. The highlights are “chunky” but blend nicely with her caramel hair. Doll score: A+ Her meet outfit consists of a pink sparkly spandex top and velour leisure pants. The shoes are a light purple platform sandal that Velcro’s on the sides. The meet outfit is not my favorite, to be honest. The top reminds me of something that would be worn for a dance team. I do think it will mix and match relatively well. The velour pants are soft, but kind of thin. This style of pants just isn’t for me. I’ve never been a fan. The drawstring around the waist is tacked down so it won’t be flying away at weird angles. The shoes are heavy molded plastic. Again, not a fan. These seem like something you’d get from Target. I am overall disappointed with the outfit but it wasn’t why I purchased the doll. It’s not horrible, just not for me. Outfit score: B She also comes with her book and two bracelets. One bracelet is blue beads on an elastic. The other is a pink pull string style with jewel beads. They’re standard AG bracelets.

I'd love to help you out, Fiora, but my daughter sold that outfit years ago. I just added that comment recently to the reviews as I had found that comment about the number of candles in a library Christmas book when I posted it. Yes, I look at Christmas books in the summer. The best part of the set is the tray with the St. Lucia buns etc. We both have the tray set. I did a quick guess measure on a doll and I think the wreath must have been around seven inches in diameter. I've seen homemade ones of faux evergreen that fit more tightly to Kirsten's head and look far better. I would just do that with small faux berries, and straight white birthday candles. Thanks! Yeah I thought about using birthday candles that should work well. Then, the ribbon for the bows will be easy peasy. I had guessed a 8" diam. at the most. I might make a post and see if a member who has it would respond. I'm glad there are very clear pics on this review, easy to see what the wreath looks like. I might paint the wick of the candles yellow to pretend they are lit! I also get the "Christmas bug" showing up during summer 😄 Yes, ask here on the board. Many members certainly have it. The wick should be yellow. I always wondered why they were painted red. Kirsten's collection is really sweet. I ended up buying quite a bit of it for two other dolls.

My daughter received this back in 1994. Its a PC version. My only problem is it should have had five or seven candles to be authentic. Reading all reviews I've been on the fence buying this wreath... I'm now, looking into making one myself and I appreciate that you mentioned the number of candles it should have. I don't know enough about this tradition. Could you please give me the diameter of the entire wreath? Though some reviewers said it's a bit too large/sticking out too much on Kirsten head; it would help me figure out which wreath size to buy. I found out the inner diameter in the "make your own" sub-forum. But the poster doesn't give the entire diameter of the wreath, only it's circumference which doesn't help me. I've seen some boxwood artificial wreaths and though the leaves are different it could still work out. 'tis the season, so I'm hopeful in finding something suitable in Hobby Lobby, Joann or Michael's on my next trip to the big city 😉 Thanks for your help 😊 I'd love to help you out, Fiora, but my daughter sold that outfit years ago. How beautiful your Silver looks under the trellis! Maybe you could add some snow-covered evergreen branches and a white poinsettia or two around her to highlight her during the hollidays! Maybe even twinkling lights! This would be a show stopper at your house! (Now I'm getting ideas!)

ladoyle Thank you so much! I have never collected the Limited Edition AG dolls or what some would consider a "fantasy type" doll and she really does not "fit in" with my typical AG collection. I have most of the Historicals, a few TM's, some GOTY's, and CYO's. This doll stands on her own for her uniqueness. Right now I will keep her in her outfit until after the holidays. I have her displayed under Blaire's wedding trellis on a hall table. Later I will probably try other outfits on her. I think she will look gorgeous in blue, white or creams, pinks etc.. I am an adult collector in her 60's and I collect & buy what I love. I consider her special with a magical quality that enhances my collection and makes me happy just to look and enjoy her. If you love her don't worry about her fitting in. Let her be your one unique doll who will add a bit of sparkle to your collection. . I am an old lady who is interested mostly in the historical line. Never thought I would buy a silver hair or fantasy/glamour type doll. And yet, Silver captured my attention upon her release. I didn't hesitate in ordering early that first day. I have no plan for her beyond admiring her as is for now.

ladoyle You are so welcome. My pleasure. I love talking to other collectors. I understand the need to think before buying anymore dolls or clothes and accessories. The struggle is real! I have collected since 1994, first for my daughters and then for me when they left the nest, lol. I do so love them all!

I am even older than you, and also have a large enough collection, mostly historical and retired dolls, and wonder how Silver could ever “fit in”. I have so much now in the way of dolls, that I really have to think long and hard before adding anything else.to what I already have. Including clothes or accessories. Your doll will look lovely under Blaire’s trellis! You will have to post pictures of that!

I'll just add a few pictures.
The coin is actually plastic. Love the necklace. This is the only part of the set that I use the most.

The tights come in her dress up accessories, at least that is what I remember. You are right! I can remove my post since I intended it as not a question but a statement in the review thread )))

It really is a beautiful shirt. The colors match very well with Grace's other items, as well as just being a beautiful shade of blue. I also love the puffy sleeves, it helps differentiate this outfit from just a regular t-shirt, and makes it seem more special. Would definitely recommend it!
