"Your girl can make her My American Girl® doll's morning bright with a great breakfast!
This yummy breakfast set includes doll-sized tableware and pretend food galore:
Two stacks of buttered pancakes
Two helpings of bacon and eggs
Two slices of toast
Two glasses of orange juice
Two footed fruit bowls filled with yogurt
Two clusters of strawberries
A pan of iced cinnamon rolls
A pitcher of orange juice
A bottle of maple syrup
A pretty serving platter
Two dotted plates
Two metal forks
Two cloth napkins"
At $58 this set was a bit out of my range but a wonderful friend sent me an early birthday present.
One of the on-line reviews says, in part, "Once I opened the box the food just kept coming and coming out..." and that is really true, there are a lot of pieces to the set.
Two stacks of buttered pancakes:
The pancakes are realistically colored and slightly textured. Each serving includes two pancakes and a pat of butter. They are about 1.75“ in diameter.
Two helpings of bacon and eggs:
In person, the bacon and eggs look much more realistic than in the on-line photos. The ‘fat’ in the bacon is a little too yellow but it’s an okay representation. Each piece includes a sunny side up egg and two (attached) slices of bacon. The pieces are roughly oval and about 2“ wide at the widest point.
Two slices of toast:
From what I understand, this toast is identical to the toast included in the 2011 Delicious Dinner set. An okay representation of toasted Italian bread although the crust is a bit too pink and flat. Each piece is approximately 1 3/4“ by 1 3/8“ and about 3/8“ thick.
Two glasses of orange juice:
Plastic, not glass, and at just about an inch tall they are a little short but they are a cute addition to the set. The orange slice design compliments the design on the pitcher.
Two footed fruit bowls filled with yogurt:
My favorite part of the set! A berry yogurt with slices of banana, kiwi (?), and strawberries surrounding a serving of blueberries. The parfait dish is approximately 1 1/8“ tall while the filled piece is just slightly over 1 1/2“ tall.
Two clusters of strawberries:
A clumped piece but I don’t mind it this time. The berries should be a darker red (I think I will use chalk dust then seal it) but the strawberries are realistically textured with cute little stem caps. About 2“ by 1 1/2“ and 1“ tall.
A pan of iced cinnamon rolls:
The most realistic piece! A 3“ square pan (red plastic) that holds four 1 3/8“ cinnamon buns. The bun and icing look very lifelike. Two of the buns are removable but I think with a little work I can remove the other two (fingers crossed).
A pitcher of orange juice:
A cute item that is marred by an extremely thick join line. The plastic pitcher is about 2 1/2“ tall making it slightly under scale.
A bottle of maple syrup:
On-line this plastic bottle looks very small, but it’s actually just over 2“ tall. Molding it in the shape of a maple leaf was a nice touch. I wish they had used a different color than AG purple for the cap but the imprinted AG star is a nice finish.
A pretty serving platter:
Can’t say that is particularly ‘pretty’ but it certainly is versatile. Molded in a light aqua blue there is a painted white trim line to accent the edge. About 4 3/4“ by 3 1/2“.
Two dotted plates:
Very plain description for a nicely executed item. White plastic (Boo! Hiss!) plate with an abstract yellow flower surrounded by a ring of red dotes and a ring of light aqua dots (which match the serving platter). 3 1/2“ diameter. Slightly smaller than Molly’s Birthday dishes but the same size as the paper plates from the Fiesta Picnic set.
Two metal forks:
A plain four tine fork about 3“ long. Wish they had gone the extra step and included a knife and spoon.
Two cloth napkins:
Red cloth napkin (matches the red of the cinnamon bun pan) with an embroidered design in the corner (similar to decoration on the plate. Not quite square somewhere around 3 1/2“ to 3 3/4“ across. (see photo above)
Overall: Very Solid A
Concept: A+
Design: B (Lack of knife and fork, plastic instead of glass or ceramic.)
Playability: A+
Price: B (It’s expensive but there are a lot of pieces.)
As a side note, if you have the Our Generation Kitchen in red it’s as if the two were designed to be used together.
