These MegaBloks playsets debuted at the NY Toy Show 2016. They were first found at ToysRUs beginning in February, 2016.
Saige's Art Studio- American Girl #DPK84 $19.99
There’s nothing Saige™ loves more than painting, and now you can help her create a masterpiece when you build Saige’s Art Studio by Mega Bloks American Girl®! Set up the easel, dip the paints, hang the plants and let your imagination run wild. Saige loves to draw horses; what will you have her paint? Once your masterpieces are done, you can hang them up and decorate the buildable studio! But don’t forget to close the curtain and clean up in the sink when you’re done! And when you’re all cleaned up, celebrate your artistry with freshly squeezed lemonade!
Ideal for ages 8 and up
- Buildable art studio with artist’s easel, paint table, and real fabric details
- One highly detailed, fully articulated Saige mini figure with signature outfit and paint brush
- Accessories include a sliding fabric curtain, a sink, paint cans, hanging plants, three canvasses, a picture frame, a rug, a foldable book, a blender, and drink
- Includes exclusive story book
- Combine with other Mega Bloks American Girl playsets and build your own stories!
The Saige's Art Studio has 198 pieces! Wow, such a fun set! The pieces come in various bags with the famous AG InnerStar design. The pieces are not sorted in any way (except sort of by color) in the bags. Opening and sorting the blocks by color makes for easier assembly. The instruction book is 44 pages long! It includes parts of Saige's story. The person playing with the set will have some story to start with to create their own scenes. The blocks are sturdy and snap together very snug. In fact, it probably will be an issue to take apart, if you would ever decide to do that. But seeing as this is a playset, it will probably just stay like it is at our house. The Saige figure is like the others in that she is totally poseable. Her arms can open wide and she has KNEES! Also she can be completely disassembled. That means you can add her skirt, hair, arms, legs and/or boots to Nicki or any of the other figures! Unlimited possibilities! It has the cutest sink and lemonade pitcher! The tiny details are so realistic (for plastic) and will provide lots of pretend play. LOVE! (instructions for this set can be downloaded at Mega Construx here)

I specifically picked up this set for 19.99 at Toys-R-Us, because I felt it was a good mid-range set that would give me an idea if there have been any positive quality changes to Megablok. My history is that I am a solid Lego fan, have put together many Lego sets. and we have had negative experience with Megablok in the past. In fact, when my son heard this was Megablok his comment was 'Oh... Those are not good."
Let me start out with the positive, which are many.
A) No stickers!! All the designs and pictures are printed! This is a big deal, since many Lego sets focused on kids have many stickers. This is a set with a printed rug, two paintings, and a book, and none are stickers.
B) It comes witha. Cloth curtain and clothe towel.
C) There are many details such as paintbrushes, paints, a pitcher, table, beautiful rose bushes, a sink, etc.
D) Saige. All of us here were HIGHLY impressed with Saige. I figured this would be the star of the set, because I was previously impressed with the individual Megablok Minions, and Saige is no exception. We love her hair and face details. We like her dress is almost like an old Polly Pocket style dress with that rubber ruffle. Her articulation is simply wonderful for a doll that size. The hair detail is lovel, although, I think the hair is just a 'tad' loose..
E) one of the large flat pieces was a stronger plastic than I expected.
F) The instruction book is high quality. We all liked how it highlighted the stud location the bricks go on. There are suggestions for play scenarios. There are places to draw pictures. This really is an instruction book with an American Girl touch to it.
The cons....
I will say that the overall blocks were a bunch better experience that what we had the Minion set. At the same time, this is where I would say the weakness of the set still resides.
A) I had a stud which has extra jagged plastic around the top, that I had to scrape off. B) There we two studs on two of the larger pieces that were wonky in how they looked. C) I had visible gaps when I fit my larger pieces together. This is not something I would experience with Lego. D) The horse painting was not centered properly, so that when it was put into the frame, there is a white line one the one side.
Overall...
Overall, I do feel the set I had was much better than the MInion line, which was the last time I had tried Megablok. I do still feel that Lego still has higher quality in their manufacturing and precision. Most the issues we saw were precision related, which is something Historically Lego has excelled over Megsblok with and still does. Having said that, though, the set I have is very nice, and I feel for play for a kid it is something that I would willingly pay the price I did. I feel Megablok has upped it's game, which for me is shocking after having tried Megablok sets as recently as last year.
Anyway, from a firm Lego fan, I am sold on this line, which really says a bunch about how the quality has jumped. I can forgive the small precision issues because of the positives on this set. At this point, I have no issue with trying one of the higher priced American Girl Megablok sets, and we probably will.

I purchased and put together saige's set last night. Saige was my first American girl doll i didn't have too many issue putting the set together. I'm not a very experienced builder but i have build legos as well as monster high mega bloks. The monster high mega bloks were a nightmare no pun intended but i do feel that these new ag are much nicer. I love the doll and the set is very cute. It took me about 2 hours to build. i do agrue that legos are better quality still but not by a ton this set is quite nice. I only had issue with the roof. My rating a-.

I got this set today and put it together while my nieces were playing with the McKenna set. Oh my gosh, I love it! I love all the little details like the hanging plant, the lamp, the curtain, the sink, the lemonade pitcher, the roses, the paint bottles, the clock. I love the turquoise with the brown. Saige figure is cute. I found the instructions very easy to follow. I've never bought mega blocks before, but I will definitely be getting more of the American girl sets. I hope they make the historical dolls!
