Truly Me Gourmet Kitchen (2016 - )
Original Retail: $225
Grade: A
This wooden doll-sized kitchen features more than 65 pieces! It has a pretend fridge and oven, cabinets and drawers that open, shelves, a message board, and a pot rack. Also includes:
A whisk, wooden spoon, and spatula
A stock pot, sauce pan, baking sheet, brownie pan, and bread pan
Nesting measuring cups and spoons
A stand mixer that really spins, with a mixing bowl and two attachments
A rolling pin and pretend pastry dough
A toaster that pops up when ready
Pretend food: cereal, oatmeal, brown sugar, baking soda, vegetable oil, milk, eggs, bread,
brownies, four cookies, strawberries, and blueberries
A pretend salt shaker and pepper grinder
A butter dish
Eight pretend spice jars, plus flour and sugar
A trash can and a metal chair
A polka-dot apron and matching hot pad
A recipe box with five real recipe cards
Two plates, bowls, cups, metal forks & spoons, and one butter knife
A set of decals for labeling spice jars and pretend marker for the message board
Pretend pet food and a hidden pet-food drawer with a bell to ring
The set I have wanted for years! It is wonderful to have all of the necessary kitchen items in a fairly small footprint. It’s great that it’s completely finished and open for four-sided play. The metal pot rack, stand mixer storage compartment and the pet food drawer were all big selling points for me.
While most of the kitchen is wood and metal the majority of the accessories are plastic. Some are high quality while others are not.
The stock pot (why isn’t there a lid?), sauce pan, baking sheet, brownie pan, bread pan, mixing bowl, whisk, ‘wooden’ spoon, spatula, nesting measuring cups and spoons are all plastic.
The stand mixer, rolling pin and pretend pastry dough are duplicates of items from Grace’s collection.
The recipe box with five real recipe cards is a great idea that’s poorly executed. The box does not have a true hinge so it will break quickly. The cards do not fit in the box without a lot of fiddling just putting more strain on the plastic ‘hinge’.
The toaster is adorable and I confess to setting and popping it more times than a mature woman should.
The plates and flatware match those offered in the new waffle and lasagna sets. One of AG’s best ideas in a long time. Now I just need extra bowls and glasses.
The metal chair is sturdy and heavy but, be warned, it’s purple! Mine (and the second I purchased from Evil Bay) will be meeting up with some spray paint very soon.
Pretend food:
The cereal, oatmeal, brown sugar, baking soda, and pet food are empty cardboard boxes, not even weighted.
The vegetable oil, milk, egg carton (eggs are not removable), bread, brownies, four cookies, strawberries, and blueberries are fun additions (and occasional repeats from previous sets).
The salt shaker and pepper grinder, butter dish and knife are also repeats but you can never have too many.
The canisters have pretend loose flour and sugar inside. Neat touch!
The spice jars are a disappointment. They are empty with glued on lids.
Everything else is standard AG fare.
I’m a huge fan of doll food so my kitchen will be overflowing with extras from both American Girl and Our Generation but the best thing is that a child or new collector can start with this set and have hours of play or display fun without adding anything more than imagination.
