The kiddos really wanted Luci's robotic dog today so that ended up making it into the big red bag also! I have not gotten to 'play' with it a lot as the kids have not let it go since my husband put batteries in it . I guess that means it is a hit! It did not come with batteries and is a sturdier plastic than I was anticipating. I thought from looking online that this would be easily breakable, but now that I've touched it (albeit momentarily) I am not worried about it. It has a button on the top of its head which makes it make different sounds and lights it up and supposedly has a wagging tail though I don't know how you're supposed to make it wag with the button if that is supposed to be how it's done. You can 'wag' it by moving it back and forth with your fingers, but I thought there should be a way to make it wag with a button perhaps? I'll have to look into that specific more once the girls take a break and I'll report back. If anyone else knows about the 'wagging' tail, let me know please! It also has a magnetic wrench toy that it can hold to its mouth. From reading the book, we learned that this little pup is a mascot at space camp and is named 'Orion'. He's a cute little thing!

Luciana is thrilled to discover that her Space Camp team has its own mascot! This robotic dog features light-up eyes, makes more than 20 sounds, and has a posable body, a magnetic mouth that holds a toy wrench, and rolling wheels for feet. It can even wag its tail!
Hello Orion! Luciana's robotic dog is a departure in previous GOTY pets- mostly notably in a price increase to $35. Orion is made of an overall durable plastic featuring light up eyes and a button on top of his head. This button is supposed to replicate the 'sensor' Orion has in the books. Orion is posable like the TM pets and the wheels on the bottoms of his paws allow you to actually roll him around. He does not roll or move on his own, but his ears do wag when the button is pressed along with eyes that illuminate in purple, orange, and blue accompanied by 20 different dog noises. His tail is waggable as well but this is not a feature like the ears. You just wag it using your own finger. Included is a toy wrench that he can hold with the magnet in his mouth.
At first I was skeptical that the $35 price tag would be worth it. In the end I think it is. This dog has a ton of playability and make numerous appearances in Luciana's first book. Overall Orion gets a grade of A- from me with points docked for the tail wag being played up as a bigger feature than it actually is.
