I usually limit my collection to historicals, but every once in awhile an item is too cute to pass up!
Using the AG description as a guide, there are seven components to the set ...
1) “A spatula for spreading frosting” - Well, it’s a spatula. It has a red and light blue plastic handle with a star- shaped cut out in it, and a flat metal blade.
2) “Four pretend cupcakes, two vanilla and two chocolate” - These are really adorable! The vanilla cupcakes have a nice yellow cake color with light blue frosting artistically swirled on top and red sprinkles, while the chocolate cupcakes are a realistic chocolaty brown topped with pink frosting and white sprinkles. I really appreciate all of the attention to detail here, from the zigzag sides (to match the cupcake holders) to the cake texture near the top to the swirl of the frosting.
3) “Four cupcake holders” - These are light blue plastic decorated with tiny little white dots. Again, the detail is fabulous (but kind of hard to capture in a photo)!
4) “A make-believe red cupcake pan” - This is made of hard red plastic and measures about 3 inches on each side. I don’t think there’s anything too special about it, but it probably has good play value if you have an oven!
5) “A jar of pretend sprinkles” - This plastic jar appears to be filled with glitter, but I think it would have been nicer if the sprinkles matched the sprinkles on the cupcakes. The lid doesn’t come off and there isn’t much detail here. If this piece got lost, I might not even care; it’s definitely the weak link in the set.
.
6) “A fancy cupcake display to show off her skills” - Really just a piece of lightweight plastic, but I do think it does a great job of presenting the cupcakes. I had initially hoped that it could spin, but it doesn’t. It’s still cute.
7) “A doll-sized abridged Williams-Sonoma American Girl Baking cookbook” - Oh my gosh this is so stinkin’ cute! It is perfectly sized for the dolls, but still filled with lots of photos and text!
This set was originally listed at $24 and is currently on sale for $14. I would give it a B or B+ at the original price, and wouldn’t hesitate to give it an A+ at the sale price. I might even buy a second one before it’s gone!
