Ruthie was released in 2008 and retired in 2014.
Your Ruthie doll is 18" tall with wavy dark-brown hair and gray eyes. Ruthie is Kit's best friend from 1934. She comes in a pretty purple dress, a purple hair bow, blue socks and black shoes. She is so pretty, her hair is dark! Almost as dark as JLY #25's. I'd say it is Jess's color and her eyes are gray. Her hair is curly and easy to style, and will look good in lots of styles. I love Ruthie's meet dress because it is light and summery. The cotton is thin and soft, similar to Egyptian cotton. The detailing is cute, and Ruthie looks fantastic in purple. I give Ruthie a B just because she has gray eyes instead of the beautiful brown that is shown in her books. Otherwise she is perfect!

I am absolutely in love with Ruthie. For some reason, her eyes look like more of a deeper green-gray to me than Molly's light gray.
Her hair, however, is a darker brown than Jess's, though they do both have highlights. It isn't quite as dark as Josefina's, but it's somewhere in-between the two.
I think the dress is what I'm most disappointed about. It feels thin and almost like a poly/cotton blend. The detailing is cute, though.
Dress: B- for cheap-ness
I had a problem getting Ruthie to stand in the shoes because of the heel, but other than that, they're absolutely lovely. They're fake leather and look so much more realistic than the plastic Mary Janes that some of the other girls have. Bonus points for no-snag velcro closures on the shoes that you can barely see.
Socks are cute--I love the fishnet look.
Shoes: A- for standing issues

I love Ruthie, and haven't found anything that looks bad on her yet. My only concern would be her dress; she came with paper around her upper arms and neck, which implies that the purple trim will stain. I put Ruthie meet outfit on my JYL #25, to give an idea of what a dark hair/dark eyed Ruthie would look like in the dress.

I got her a couple of days ago and I have to say she is one the prettiest dolls I have seen. Clearly worthy of the name Princess Ruthie. Her hair is a soft dark brown I don't like the gray eyes and they should have been brown maybe they thought she would be to close to their flagship doll Samantha. Or maybe they thought she would be too pretty and no one would look at the other dolls. Her dress reminds me of her dress it the first book "Meet Kit" only with purple instead of the yellow. Now for the book two words Loved It . In my opinion better then even the core doll "Kit"'s books. Although only a few will agree with me there I know. One thing Ruthie is the central character and Kit is not even a secondary character like the core dolls usually are in the friend books. The date confuses me it says 1932 which doesn't seem right maybe someone can help me see this since is seems to take place after Kit's Surprise but Kit wasn't there Christmas eve and Ruthie was. And I know it didn't take place before that because Kit wasn't having problems then...I could go on but I would ruin the book for most. All in all the book was wonderful and really showed Val Tripp's wit that she uses with such flair.

Here is my new Ruthie. Sorry the photo is alittle blurry. I have to remember to wear my glasses when taking photos! : I didn't realize her shoes had little heels which does make it hard at times to have her stand. She is much prettier in person! I wasn't sure about the gray eyes but I love her! I didn't get her meet accessories because I thought the watch looked too big. I wish she had come with a little purple sweater. My dd loves Ruthie's skin tone more then #25 which seems shiny next to Ruthie. Overall we would give Ruthie A+

Ruthie - A I love my Ruthie doll. I got her as a Christmas present from my parents and have loved her since. I love everything about her. Her hair is a little dry at the ends and mine has one side longer than the other, but it doesn't bother me. The colour is darker than Jess' (but the reason being is that Jess' hair has more red highlights than Ruthie's) Her eyes are the prettiest shade of grey and I know some wanted her to have brown eyes, I like the grey eyes because they make her look more unique. Her meet outfit is what I love most about her (partially because I love purple) This colour looks so good on Ruthie and on any dark haired doll. Mine did not come with paper around the sleeves. Her shoes are great and I have had no problems with any doll standing in them. Photo of Ruthie. Enjoy! edited for clarity and to remove previous photos. Her hair looks almost black in some photos, but it does have the reddish highlights. The photo was taken indoors, so this is why her hair appears to be so dark. Also, I forgot to mention that my Ruthie has no lip or cheek colouring. I'm not sure if that's how most Ruthies are, but mine has as much colouring as my PM Sam. I've had Ruthie for a little bit over two years and I still like her, but she's not one of my favourites. My Ruthie's hair has gotten to the point where it's completely fried and unmanagable. I think this is partially my fault, but I thought it was worth mentioning.

I just got Ruthie yesterday and she is gorgeous. Her eyes are gray but seem a little nearly blue-gray (IMO).
Her hair seems a bit dry and uneven.
Grade: B+

I recently got my Ruthie doll. She is beautiful! Her hair was a bit mussed from being in the hair net, it took quite a bit of playing to get it to look even in its curls. There were also quite a few little flyaways, you can especially see that in my pictures. I have since misted it and tried to make those go down more. Her dress is cute. A bit thin, but with cute details. I love the little buttons. Overall, I was a bit disappointed in it, mostly just because of how thin it is. Her socks are adorable. My mom loves them too. :-) Her shoes have little heels, but she can still stand in them well. Overall, I think she's a beautiful girl. Grade - A

I got my Ruthie today. For the most part, I am very happy with her. My only disappointment is her hair. It was not very curly out of the net. I will try misting and finger curling tomorrow. She seems to have less hair than some of the other dolls. Overall I am pleased and I now have her whole collection. I still want to get Kit's new school outfit for her as I think it is more quited to her than Kit. Sometime this summer, I will send Ruthie and Brenna (#21) to mstangledweb for an eyeswap. Then, Ruthie will be Shirley Ruth, my mother's look-a-like and personality twin. (Brenna will end up with the gray eyes which are closer to my youngest DD. She will be her twin. )

Ruthie is a beautiful doll. I love her curls! She makes a great best friend for Kit. I wish she had gray eyes. her meet outfit is adorable. It looks good with Kit's sweater over top of it. A-, because her hair can be a pain at times and you have to fuss with it a lot to get it to look good.

I think Ruthie is beautiful. She looks great in anything, and her hair is the most fun to style for me.

I received my Ruthie in October of 2009 along with her best friend Kit as a present from my boyfriend. I love Ruthie, she is just perfect, and the purple dress looks absolutely stunning on her! Her eyes are the oddest and most beautiful shade of grey/green, and are my favorite of any american girl doll made thus far. Her dark hair is gorgeous, I sometimes wish they had made her hair darker actually to an almost black. Her dress while beautiful, is very flimsy and snags easily however according to my grand-mother dresses were often made of thin material during the 30's so I guess it is at least authentic. None-the-less, a very beautiful doll who has successfully made my top 3. Grade: A (I still can't get past how flimsy the dress is!)

It is my 2011 goal to write up reviews for all my AG items. I am starting with Ruthie. I purchased Ruthie last year from a board member as my 1st Mother's Day gift from my son. She was my 2nd doll and my last doll purchase was for a brand new Addy back in 1995. I love Ruthie, I think part of why I love her is that her hair color and mine are nearly identical. I grew up with way too many blonde Barbie dolls as a little girl. I like the fact that her hair is curly, but it also can be frustrating at the same time. Ruthie also looks good in almost every outfit I own, modern and historical. I really like her in Samantha's play dress, Addy's meet dress and Kirsten's winter blouse and skirt paired with her winter woolens. I highly recommend Ruthie to anyone considering to purchase her. Ruthie in her Meet Outfit I love the button details on the front. Her shoes are very cute. I'm not a fan of Kit. So here is Ruthie with her best friend, Beatrice.

I got Ruthie from a board member this spring. She knocks me out! I LOVE her dark hair and I was surprised at the red highlights when I took her out in the sunshine. I have had Kit for a long time and have wanted Ruthie for her to play with. Now they are very happy together. I am not really big on her gray eyes, but I am keeping her authentic. I agree that her dress is thin and that there is hardly any blue in it so that the socks don't seem to match...but they are so cute that I'm glad they came with her. Her pajamas are really cute and femenine and since I bought them for her I am glad they have the monogram on the pocket. Her play outfit is DARLING! The only downside is that the knee socks are to short of the knickers are to short...one or the other, because they barely meet at her knees. Other than that it is wonderful. The hat seems perfect because Ruthie is such a princess that she wouldn't want to get a tan. I DISPISE the color of her Christmas dress and so I will make her a similar one in a better color. I love how she looks so much that I want another one of her and I want to give her bluish lavender eyes and call her Velvet Brown...aka...Elizabeth Taylor in "National Velvet". I highly recommend her. She's a beauty and a delight.

I love Ruthie. She is a dreamer and draws strength from her dreams. Her dreams do not cripple her but empower her for brave action. My Ruthie is the keeper of the Fairy Stories. A beautiful and strong girl in her own right. That's my Ruthie love.

Ruthie is a beautiful doll! Her story is one of my favorites and her name itself is sooo cute. I wish they made more clothing for her, though she looks great in a lot of Kit's stuff, so there are still plenty of options!

Ruthie is so pretty and fits so well in so many eras. Let me find as many smashing photos as I can. This is Ruthie's modern alter-ego checking into camp this summer.
