This item was released in 2017 and retired in 2021.
Nanea loves school and is happy to be back a month after the bombing. She wears this outfit that her mother made her for Christmas. This set includes:
A pretty floral-print dress with flounce sleeves and a tiered skirt
Geometric-woven sandals with crisscross ankle straps and laces that tie in front
A metal barrette engraved with “Nanea”—a Christmas gift from her sister, Mary Lou
A “Remember Pearl Harbor” pin with a faux pearl in place of the word “pearl”—a Christmas surprise from Papa
SKU#: FFC16 $32
I love this dress. I think the pattern and design are so pretty, and it seems versatile for the 1940s or for more modern eras.
Here’s Jess modeling it:
The dress is a coral, white, and aqua tropical print on a navy background. It has a v-neck with a lined front bodice and four well-placed pleats that go into the waistband. The skirt is gathered at the waist band and has two tiers, giving it a fun, full look. The dress also has flounce sleeves and it closes with a single strip of Velcro up the back.
A closer look at the neckline and gathers:
A picture from the rear, where you can see the double tiered skirt especially well:
The inside of the front bodice is lined:
It’s hard to see the front pleating with this busy print, but it’s really nicely done. There are two pleats on each side of the bodice. You can kind of see them here:
The shoes are also very cute. They feel substantially made with a slight heel on the sole and a navy and white geometric design on the upper part. They open with Velcro in the back, but I was able to put them on Jess without using the Velcro. The laces are very long. When I took these pictures I was just making a guess on how to wrap the laces, but since then I’ve checked the official AG pics which show the laces coming back around the front of the foot, then crisscrossing in the back, and finally coming around once more to tie in the front. This is one more wrap than I did, but I think the laces will be long enough to do this.
The set also comes with a heavy and shiny metal barrette that has Nanea’s name and a second metal “pin” with “Remember (Pearl) Harbor” embossed on it. There’s a faux pearl in place of the word.
The barrette seems heavy duty and has a clasp that should hold securely. Because of the writing and how the clasp works, I think it has to be worn on the doll’s right side. I think it would be cuter if it looked more crafted and less manufactured, but your opinion may vary.
I really like the design/lettering on the Pear Harbor pin, but mine looks a little tarnished right out of the package. I don’t know if that’s intentional, and I might call AG or look more closely at the store display to see if they’re all like that. The “pin” isn’t actually a pin but rather a secure fixed clip, rather like a bobby pin, so it can slide onto the doll’s clothing. Because of its lettering and construction, it would be worn on the doll's left side (symbolically over her heart?).
Here are close ups of the front:
And close ups of the back, showing the mechanisms by which they secure to the doll’s hair or clothes;
Overall, I really like this set. It retails for $32 but it’s showing as limited quantities, so I don’t know how much longer it will be available. I give it an A.
