This item was introduced in 2017 and retired in 2019.
Nanea and her friends Donna and Lily love the beach almost as much as they love shave ice. This set includes: A colorful tropical-print halter-style swimsuit; in the style of the ’40s, it features wide-legged shorts, A bright-yellow towel with a wave pattern, A tatami mat to protect her from the hot sand, Faux-wood goggles; they’d have been hand-carved in Nanea’s time.

The swimsuit is cute. It has several panels in the front, elastic gathers in the back, and attaches with a bit of Velcro behind the neck. I think it fits well, looks comfortable, and is easy to put on and take off the doll. However, I don’t love the pattern, especially how all the panels in the front cut up the pattern. I wish that either a smaller print had been chosen or that an effort was made to match up the print in front, but it almost looks like it was offset deliberately. For that reason, I give the swimsuit a B-.
Close up of the front bodice:
The suit from the back:
A close up of the pattern (green palm trees, yellow hibiscus flowers, black houses, and pink mountains on a field of green). I think it’s more interesting when you can actually see the whole print and it’s not chopped up into little bits.
The towel measures 12 inches long and 5.75 inches wide with rounded corners. It’s long enough for to wrap around shoulders and made of a thick plush. The yellow and white design is reversed on the other side, as shown in the photos at the top of this post. This is a nice towel and I think it deserves an A.
The tatami mat is pretty basic. It’s edged in blue fabric and comes rolled up with rubber bands around it. It feels kind of stiff (in a cheap sort of way IMO) and takes awhile to lay more flat. On the plus side, it’s the perfect size for a doll to lay down on. I have mixed feelings about the quality of this piece, but having been to pebbly beaches where having a mat is essential, I think a doll would appreciate this and I’ll give it a B.
The goggles are a cute touch. They’re faux wood (AKA hard plastic) with a rubbery strap over the nose and around the head. The strap actually looks like it has notches to adjust its tightness, but it seems plenty snug on the loosest one; maybe tightening it will be more useful over time. The goggles are secure around the doll’s head but don’t form a tight seal around her eyes, but that’s okay because she’s not going swimming anyway. I give these an A-.
You can see the little gap here:
Also cute on top of her head:
The inside (maybe you can spot the notches on the rubber strap, but it was hard to focus this close):
Overall, I think it’s a cute set but questionably worth the full retail price of $28. If the swimsuit print had been just a little different (a smaller print or matched up at the seams), I would definitely think it would be worth the full price or even a little more.
