Joss would love to spend every day at the Break, the beach near her house. Whatever the season or condition, she’s ready to hang with friends or hang ten.
SKU#: GKX56 $28
The set comes with a swimsuit, wetsuit jacket, and sandals. Here are the AG descriptions and more photos and thoughts about each piece:
A high-neck swimsuit top and bottom with a geometric pattern she can wear while catching waves. This seems really well made of a nice swimsuit material. The print has light blue, orange, reddish-pink, and white stripes, and also a black chevron stripe against a white background, and the same print is on the bottoms in a smaller scale. The bottoms slip on and the top closes with Velcro in the back. Unfortunately her body tag sticks out between the two parts. I generally don’t like seeing both the vinyl and fabric parts of a doll in outfits (and especially where the vinyl and fabric joins), but the color match on Joss doesn’t bother me. I appreciate how the swimsuit pattern is centered on her body and also how the pattern matches up in the back.
A zip-front wetsuit jacket she wears to help her be more buoyant in the water and to protect her from scrapes, stings, and sunburn. The wetsuit jacket is mostly reddish-pink in the body and it has a light blue and indigo colored pattern in the sides and sleeves. It closes with a zipper (with a star on the zipper pull), and it has Joss’s ocean emblem on the upper left chest. It coordinates well with the swimsuit and the rest of Joss’s collection; I like the way it looks, and I think it fits her and her story well.
A pair of sandals that match her swimsuit. I have mixed feelings about these. I think they seem sturdy and well made, and I also think their construction is clever and that they’ll stay securely on Joss’s feet. The only hesitation I have is that I’m just not sure about the whole idea of thong-style sandals on AG feet. That’s my opinion though, and yours may differ.
Overall, I like this set. I put off getting it for a long time, mainly because I wasn’t sure I liked the pattern of the fabric, but once I got it and felt the fabric and saw how well made it was, my doubts went away, and I’m glad it’s part of my collection now. I think the $28 price is very reasonable considering the quality, number of pieces, and connection to Joss’s character. I suspect its use might be limited to the surf and swim in the outfit’s name, rather than being able to mix with other pieces (like Joss’s meet swimsuit can), so with that in mind, I’d give it an overall B+.
ETA: Here are a few more photos showing it with some other pieces in the collection; you can make up your own mind how well it works with them:
