This half-apron was an in-store promotional item given away at Blaire’s launch. It feels like a lightweight white cotton fabric with a print of light lavender-blue stripes overlaid with pink, yellow, and green flowers. A lavender grosgrain ribbon goes around the back and closes with Velcro. The floral design is printed on one side only; its pink and yellow flowers, outlined in darker pink, echo the floral design on the full-size apron that comes with Blaire’s Garden Accessories, although the green on this apron is a much darker shade. The American Girl logo is printed in pink on the bottom corner.
An 18-page booklet focusing on hand lettering came with the apron. The pages show different styles and lettering fonts, and have room for practice. There are also 2 pages of stickers (with letters, flourishes, and floral designs) so you can make your own signs to go along with Blaire’s family farm or your own projects.
Some of the inside pages:
Overall, I think it’s a pretty nice giveaway. Even though the apron isn’t very functional (it doesn’t have pockets and wouldn’t provide much actual coverage), it’s a cute piece. I didn’t purchase the clothing from Blaire’s collection, so I can’t say how well it goes with any individual outfits, but it does seem like the colors go well with her theme.
I really like the lettering book and stickers. This seems like a thoughtful and fun activity to me, especially with all of the pages in the booklet and the ways the lettering could be used. I don’t know if this holds a lot of appeal for really young kids, but I often see the 8+ age range engrossed in this sort of thing.
I probably wouldn’t seek out either item to purchase on the secondary market (more detailed lettering books are readily available, and Blaire has other more functional aprons), but I think AG hit the mark with these as promotional giveaways for Blaire’s launch.
