This beautiful velveteen coat is fit for a masquerade ball! It's edged in faux fur, with three satin bows at the front and pink satin lining that peeks out at the sleeves.
Coat: A-
This pretty coat is made of light blue, stiff, velvety material with white faux fur trim. It opens fully in the front with three tabs of Velcro, so it's easy to get off and on the doll. Three pink bows adourn the front of the coat, placed over the Velcro tabs. The coat isn't lined, but the hem, sleeve edges, and opening is lined with pink fabric. It's very fancy, though doesn't feel the warmest.
It's cut in an A-shape, so it's generally roomy enough for any of the NOLA outfits to fit under, though I imagine bulkier clothing would be quite snug. The coat goes to Cécile's knees. I wish it went a bit lower because Cécie's skirts tend to stick out a bit awkwardly. The sleeves are a tad shorter than I would like, resting midway up Cécile's arms, but I guess it probably doesn't get cold enough in New Orleans for Cécile to be too bothered.
The colour is an obvious departure from both Cécile and Marie Graces largely darker, more richly coloured outfits, which can cause it to clash when worn over many of their other outfits (since most skirts will extend below the coat's hem (like Marie Grace's Party outfit, which Cécile is currently wearing). It works with their Fancy Dress (and maybe Marie Graces's Skirt Set), but that's about it as far as colour coordination goes.
Front. Note the pink lining under the faux fur.
Back.
Good Value?
AG sold this for $24, and while it's certainly a pretty coat, I don't think a coat alone is worth that much, especially when it isn't lined and doesn't feel long enough to be a proper coat. I got it for about that on the secondary market, but I frequently see it for double AG's original price, which I don't think is really worth it.
Overall: A-
It's a pretty coat and I'm something of a sucker for having winter outfits for all of my dolls, so I was pleased to find it for a reasonable price, but if I hadn't found that particular deal, I honestly wouldn't have been in much of a hurry to add this to my collection. It's hardly a bad piece, I'm just not the biggest fan of how much it clashes with almost everything that isn't the Fancy Dress, or the awkward lengths of the sleeves and hem. Still, it looks really nice and sophisticated on Cécile and the bright colors so stand out against some of AG;s darker winter outfits. It's not a must-have for Cécile and Marie-Grace's collection, but if you're into having coats for everyone, it's definitely a fancy option.
Not ready for a cold walk, certainly, but looking elegant and ready for a fancy night out and about.
