This item was released in 2006 (replacing Molly's Trunk) and retired in 2011.
This exquisite wooden chifforobe was a common piece of bedroom furniture in Molly’s time. The front features a full-length frosted mirror and a smaller make-up mirror, plus a bottom drawer that pulls out for storage. Open the two large doors—the right door has faux drawers on the front—to reveal enough space to store up to two dolls on stands or the chifforobe accessories: a quilted taffeta garment bag with a see-through window; a shoe storage system with eight pockets for doll shoes; and a coordinating quilted laundry bag with a drawstring top. Includes trading cards. W: 17”, H: 24 1/2”, D: 9”.

I recently purchased Molly’s Chifforobe and am fairly impressed with it. It seems to be an improvement over her old trunk. The exterior is made from a fairly solid wood and stands almost 25” high. The chifforobe is more like an actual piece of furniture than a doll trunk. It’s essentially the same size as Felicity’s clothes press.
The two doors close with magnetic closures and there’s a single drawer underneath. Inside the chifforobe there’s a clothes rod that spans half the width of the closet. The other half is plain without any hooks or knobs. At first I wasn’t sure if I was going to like this arrangement, but it works fine for my needs. I store some of Molly’s clothes on the rod and boxes of accessories on the other side. There are small hooks on both doors to hold the shoe rack and laundry bag. The hooks are large enough that the shoe rack and laundry bag don’t fall off when the doors are being opened or closed.
The Good:
I love that the chifforobe coordinates with the rest of Molly’s furniture. It would really look adorable in a Molly room. The quality of the piece is also quite good and has little plastic. I’m fairly certain that the red handles are wooden, but it appears that the red, bottom base is plastic. The piece should be durable for both play and storage.
The chifforobe definitely holds more than I thought it would. The typical 7x7” clothes boxes fit perfectly inside the closet. The stacked boxes provide a lot more storage than actual drawers would. Plus, whole outfits and accessory sets can be stored together.
The idea and size of the garment bag is also nice. The garment bag has metal hooks that attach over the clothes rod. It provides a little additional protection to Molly’s white and more delicate pieces. Also, the garment bag is deep enough that the longer pieces (umbrella, canoe paddle, pennant, balloon, flag, etc.) also fit in the garment bag.
The Not So Good:
While the trunk holds a lot, it probably won’t hold Molly’s entire collection. If you’re looking for a place to store a lot of things, this probably isn’t the answer. My Molly and Emily things are divided between this piece, two Molly trunks, and a bed box. However, I do have many duplicate items and some room to expand. Also, the chifforobe itself can be hard to store because it stands upright.
The piece is also quite heavy. It would be very difficult for a child or even an adult to carry this piece up/down stairs or from room to room. However, there are cut out spaces on either side of chifforobe that serve as handles and make it a little easier to maneuver.
The material used on the shoe rack, garment bag, and laundry bag is also a little thin and cheapy. The garment bag especially doesn’t always hold its shape. The Velcro closures on the garment bag are also a little awkward. The Velcro closures fold over to the side of the garment bag and create bulges. It’s also a bit difficult to get the Velcro to match-up perfectly when it’s hanging.
The shoe caddy is also a little flimsy. The combination of the flimsy fabric and shallow openings makes it difficult to store anything other than Mary Janes in the caddy. Even the oxfords and saddle shoes don’t fit nicely.
Lastly, the bottom drawer is a little too shallow. It’s difficult to find things that fit in there.
Overall, this is a fairly nice piece. While it probably doesn’t hold as much as some of the trunks, it’s probably the best of the “upright” storage pieces.
