Kit wore this outfit in the movie/DVD Kit Kittredge: An American Girl. It was released in 2009 and retired in 2015.
When Kit’s hot on the trail of a news story, she stays cool and comfortable in this outfit: A floral dress with a wide collar, bright red trim, and a belt at the waist A red headband to sweep back her hair White socks and red shoes with swirly stitching at the toes. $28Kit's Reporter Outfit comes with a white dress, white socks, red Mary Jane shoes, and a plastic red headband. The dress is white with springs of blue, red, and yellow flowers. The cap sleeves have keyholes with pre-tied, permanent red bows. The bodice of the dress has red bias trim. I found the bodice to be rather long. The skirt is also long. Compared to the birthday dress and spring play dress, this dress seems large. Perhaps it was made for Kit to grow into? The socks are plain, ankle-roll socks. Very serviceable. The Mary Jane shoes are thin and red, but the interiors are white so they (hopefully) shouldn't stain. They have little white whirl decorations on the toe. The headband is transparent red plastic. It's made large enough that a child probably won't break it trying to get it over a doll's head in play. Grade: B ETA: I thought it was too long and the belt was oddly placed. So, I had my mother remove the belt and shorten the dress to match the length on Kit's Birthday Dress. The finished result:

I love this dress on Kit. It is not too tight - I put her undies on underneath it. It is perfect with her coloring. My favorite part of the outfit are the adorable red shoes. They are a perfect example of great AG shoes.
The socks are a bit big, so you have to play with them a bit while getting the shoes on. The rollover can cover the extra bit.
The headband is the only thing I do not like. It does not fit on Kit's head well. I wish AG had used a fabric headband/ribbon instead.
This is an outfit that is worth the full price. It is versatile and looks great on Kit.

I really like the print of this dress, and the red accents. I also agree with green chile supergirl that this dress is too long - if I had any seamstress abilities at all, I'd modify it. But I don't - so it will have to stay long for the time being. Our headband is quite tight, and if I don't get it on just right - it shoots like a rocket off of the top of Kit's head. The shoes are absolutely perfect! Overall, I still give this outfit an A! D~

I received this outfit as a gift from my MIL for Christmas 2009. I think it looks really cute on Kirsten and overall give it an A.

This is one of my favorite outfits in Kit's collection. I love the color red and this outfit makes me happy. The red shoes are horribly cute. I also like that the socks are thicker than most.

My one complaint about this dress is that the headband is too big for the doll's head. But I love the dress and the shoes. It's one of my favorites for Erin (#35) but Kit looks cute in it too! Kit in the dress: *MOD EDIT to remove member's dead image links*

Like other reviewers have mentioned, I find the dress to be way to long. My dolls always look like they're swimming in fabric. I wasn't crazy about this dress, and my opinion about it hasn't changed much. The hairband is plastic and I can't get it to fit right on Kit. The plastic seems cheap, and it reminds me of the plastic used for cheap accessories/headbands for girls that are sold with a matching barbie doll. Very Mattel-ish. Other than the length, the dress is very cute and I like it a lot. The design on it is adorable, but I wish it would fit better! The socks are...well, just socks. And I really don't have much to say about the shoes. They have this really interesting white swirl on them, which looks so cute with the dress. There is velco on the sides, and the quality is similar to Kit's other shoes. Overall, I give this outfit a B+

I bought this outfit as an impulse buy in June and I do not regret it. Overall the set goes together nicely and is true to its time period, but it also works in a modern doll's wardrobe as well. Now for the real review.
Dress: This dress is the sweetest thing and really feels like an old feed sack dress. It fits really well on the dolls and I have no issues getting it on and off. It looks fantastic on all of the skin tones in my collection and goes well with each hair/eye combo too. This is by far the best dress I've gotten from AG. A+
Headband: This is a very cute headband, but I've been having some issues with mine falling off of the doll's head and not holding back hair. Because of the issues I give it a B
Shoes: I simply adore these shoes! They match the dress so well and the details are amazing, from the little buckles to the embroidery on the top. My only issue is that the shoes don't fit when the socks are on my doll's feet. So because of the issue with the socks I give them an A-
Socks: These are the cutest things and I must say these feed my obsession with tiny socks. They work well with many outfits and are very versatile. A
So I give this whole outfit a solid A

I love this dress! The little oval cutouts on the sleeves with the bows are precious. the red shoes with their swirled stitching are the cutest ever. I actually like that the length is longer.
