Sonali Matthews is one of Chrissa's Friends.
Sonali has dark skin, brown eyes, dark brown long curly hair, and her own face mold. Her face mold reminds me of Kaya, but shows teeth. It also has similarities to the Addy and Josefina molds.
Sonali's meet outfit consists of denim Capri pants, blue slipper type shoes, a green t-shirt, green undies, and a blue knitted tank topped tunic.
Sonali it gorgeous. I'm madly in love with her skin tone, eyes, and the curl in her hair. She does look like many East Indian women that I know. I wish her wig was a little thicker. The netting of the wig doesn't show through as readily as Chrissa's does when you leave the hair down, but if you change her hairstyle, it does start to show. I don't see it being a problem for display, but might be a pain when playing with her.
Her meet outfit has several pieces that will be nice for mix and match. Her pants and t-shirt will be very versatile and actually make a nice outfit on their own. Her shoes are adorable and easy to put on and take off, but don't fall off. The buttons on the knitted tunic work like real buttons. Like Chrissa's outfit, I wish there was some sort of hair accessory for this outfit. A headband would have been especially nice.

Sonali is a beautiful and unique doll. I adore her. My DD fell in love with her instantly and greatly prefers her to Chrissa. I have to say, the feeling is mutual. Sonali's hair is long, thick and silky. It seems to even be a nicer texture than Marisol's! Her meet outfit is nice too. Not really colors that I like, but I can see my DD wearing something similar. The quality seems nice as well. Sonali's gets an A+ from me and ranks very high on the list of "favorites" in my house. She is beautiful. Hair is amazing!

Sonali gets an A+ from me, and I'd give her a higher ranking if possible. I am absolutely in love with her.
Her face mold is beautiful, and looks a lot like an eleven-year-old Indian-American girl I know. Her nose is wider and flatter than other dolls, a little like Addy's. Her lips have the pronounced curve of Josefina's, but it doesn't give off the chipmunk look. The coloring on her lips is a dark sort of wine color. It's really pretty. Her eyelashes are gorgeous, too. They're curved a little at the end. This is probably my favorite face mold next to Jess's now.
I don't know if this is just my Sonali, but she seems a little chubbier than other dolls. I haven't had any issue with clothes fitting her, but I thought I'd mention it.
She has some of the prettiest hair I've ever seen! It's smooth and extremely curly. She comes with the pamphlet on caring for straight-haired dolls, but I still use hair picks when dealing with her curls, because there's so many. Someone I know said it looks like a darker version of #24's wig, but I think it's a little curlier. The wig is very thick - I've styled her hair a few times, and haven't seen the wigcap show on any style yet.
As for her meet outfit, it's pretty cute. I can certainly imagine a ten-year-old wearing an outfit like this. Her jumper is knitted, and separate from the t-shirt, as has been mentioned above. The buttons are real and come undone, which pleasantly surprised me. I really like the t-shirt, too. It would look really nice with plain jeans. It's hard to get a good picture of the shirt's actual color, but the fourth picture down posted by curiouser is pretty accurate. It looks a lot paler in most pictures, but it's actually a lime color. The jeans have cuffed bottoms (they're capris), with elastic at the bottom of the legholes. It's a cute style, I have to admit, although I wouldn't wear it. There is no snap or velcro on the pants - just a stretchy elastic band in the waist. I can imagine this would cause problems getting the pants onto a PM doll. I also don't care for the embroidery on the jeans (I'm sick of embroidered flowers on everything AG makes), although it is well-done. The ballet flats are adorable, and much better made than they looked on the website. The material isn't plastic-y at all. The detail on the strap is really nice, and the shoes look good for mixing and matching.
In my opinion, Sonali is one of the most unique dolls made by AG. I just love her.
Pictures to be added later.

I just got Sonali yesterday and think she's gorgeous.
Her hair is probably her best feature. It's very thick and curly but easily managed. I've only styled it once but think it will not be difficult to manage. It reminds me of Jess' hair once you unbraid it but obviously thicker.
I love her coloring. She reminds me of toffee. As I am a big fan of pink (ha!) I can't wait to dress her in something pink as I think it will look wonderful with her coloring.
I agree that Sonali appears thicker in both the body and face than any of my other dolls. I haven't tried her in any other clothes yet can't wait to see how she looks in other clothing.
I absolutely love the outfit that she is in. I love the colors. Despite the fact that I am a huge fan of pink I was glad to see this color combination and think it makes her skin "pop". Even if I hadn't gotten Sonali as a very early birthday present I would have bought the outfit seperately because I liked it that much. Oh, but wait, I hate the shoes. I would have put her in some crazy green sneakers/tennis shoes.
Sonali has not left my side since she arrived yesterday! Love her.

I actually only took pics of her hair---the lighting in our place is terrible--and it is super cold out--my toes could only stand being outside for so long!
Anyway, I know that people have seen many pics of her face--so you know what she looks like. And there were lots of pics of her hair as well.
Well to me her hair is a cross between Nicki's and #24-just different colors obviously. My #24 has very silky, soft and full hair while my Nicki's is a bit drier and thinner, but very, very curly. Sonali's has the fullness and texture of #24, but more curls--similiar to Nicki's. (My #24 may have had that curly hair--but well, after about 4 years of brushing and such, the hair may have relaxed into looser waves.)

Totally in love with her hair!!!
Very accurate and similar to the hair of many East Indian women I have met. Shiny, thick, glossy, and with thick curls and waves like that.
I give AG a 10 for Sonali's hair.

Sonali's hair is so shiny that it's hard to take accurate photos with my lame camera. The flash bounces like crazy! We just got her today. (Okay, so my son got her and he will barely let me get near her, much less brush her hair, but anyways.... ;D) Anyways, her hair seems to be very much like Marisol's. Very thick and deeply wavy. Maybe a bit more prone to flyaways but Mari is at the doll hospital so I can't readily compare. It could just be the extreme lack of humidity in our house right now. By the way, if anyone is on the fence about her right now, I don't mean to be an enabler, but she is freaking gorgeous! To the point where she may have a doppelganger in a couple months.

I just want to add something I noticed at the store, Sonali seems to have more deep set eyes than the regular face mold. Addy's are similar but not quite as deep. She's a pretty girl in person but didn't do anything for me.

I have Sonali and I definitely give her an A+++. She is absolutely beautiful and her hair is so shiny and silky. It has a nice bounce to it and the curls are easily and beautifully defined when you twirl them around your finger.
Looking at the pictures on the website I thought that I would not like Sonali's meet outfit so much because it made her body look too wide. When I received her this was not the case at all. It is an adorable outfit and the sweater dress is very cute and can be worn over other shirts.
All in all, I am really pleased with Sonali and I'm glad I decided to buy her!

I received Sonali as a gift from dear friends. She is truly a lovely doll. I think the face mold changes that AG made are subtle but suit her well, and I hope we see this mold used on other dolls in the future. I think the wider eyes give her a sweet look. Our Sonali doll is not an extra-fluffy version and so she should fit in most of the new AG fashions just fine; I suspect there will be some variation with regards to how plump the various doll bodies are. The wig is beautifully sleek and soft, but I found it got tangled rather easily when using hair elastics; I'd recommend caution with up-dos using them, especially for younger girls who might get frustrated, force the elastics and rip hair in the process. I am not all that enamored of the Meet outfit. I'd like it better if the jean capris had a wider leg instead of that cuff at the bottom, and if they'd lose the green decal thing which makes it less of a mix-and-match piece. The layered tops are a definite plus, and the shoes are darling. Overall I'd give her Meet outfit a B and the doll herself an A.

Brushing Sonali's hair is a breeze. It's really soft and silky. Occasionally the ends will get a little tangled because of the curls. I just use a misting bottle and spray a little water on it before I brush. It seems to help.

I ordered and received Sonali in March of 09. She is definitely a huge favorite. Her hair reminds me of a silkier Marisol wig. It is very soft and bouncy and isn't dry so it doesn't tangle easily, and there are so many fun ways it can be styled. There are little shorter hairs to prevent the wig cap from showing when it's pulled into ponytails so it looks nice from all sides. Her torso cloth has the kind of light-reddish color that the other darker dolls have - I would personally like to see a less dramatic color difference between the vinyl and cloth. Her meet outfit is adorable and versatile. I'm not too crazy about her shoes, but those were the first thing my daughter liked. Also, the book is great. It is fully illustrated and has nice glossy pages full of practical ways to make and keep friends. I think my daughter will actually read and apply a lot of the suggestions. In the back there are little page-sized "posters" that can be detached and hung in a room. Each one has a little quote or something inspirational written with a picture. I was actually very impressed with this book. I think it is great for children who are on the younger side (my daughter is 7), or like having suggestions on friendship-building. I definitely recommend the doll and the book - the quality and uniqueness are great with this set. A+++ And of course, pictures:

I just got my lovely Sonali Poppy yesterday. I'm in love with her hair so fun to play with. I have the blue glasses for her and she looks just lovely in them. Her skin color is just a great color. Her meet outfit I just love. The green shirt looks great with the jumper from the jumper and boots outfit. Love her.

I just got Sonali yesterday and checked her right away for the loose limb problem others have been reporting on some of the new dolls. Fortunately, for now, her limbs are nice and tight. The first thing I noticed was how small she seems, esp. her face mold, from our other AG dolls. In her photo, her face appears larger somehow. I think she's beautiful and I esp. appreciated having a doll choice with another ethnicity to add to our collection. I'd give her an A+ for the new face mold, gorgeous hair, and her meet outfit which I thought was quite versatile and different.

For those of you who have had her for a while and have played a lot with her hair: do her curls comb out or do they retain their spring pretty well? Do you do anything to keep them intact? How is her hair different from Samantha's waves and Elizabeth's silkiness and waves? Thank you.

I was just brushing out Sonali's hair last night. I wet it down like I always do, and the curls bounced back once it dried. I personally think that Sonali's hair is finer than some other dolls' hair. Not as fine as Josefina's or Kaya's, but not the density of Elizabeth's individual hair fibers to me, either. That's just my impression, nothing scientific to back it up. ETA gratuitous Sonali photos:

Not really much to add to what others have said except that Sonali reminds me of the little girl fetching water at the end of Disney's film, The Jungle Book.
I'd give her an A. I got one with nice tight limbs but my Sonali's hair is not very thick either. Haven't been able to get a photo that does her prettiness justice yet so might have another go tomorrow, when it's light.

I received Sonali - renamed Vesper Kunda Das - for Mother's Day yesterday and think she is a stunning and sweet doll. Her hair is extremely long and lovely. It is not as thick as Elizabeth's, but still lovely and wavy. There are many interesting highlights in her hair - red and other light shades, which make it very realistic and pretty. She has more of a glow to her skin than either Addy or Kaya (I have both dolls to compare her to) - less gray undertones; a warmer shade. She also, as everyone knows, has her own unique face mold.
She gets an A+ from me.

I picked out my Sonali at the Boston B&B. She is so much prettier in real life then the AG stock photos make her look. She's an A+ drop dead gorgeous girl! The only thing I dislike about Sonali is her book character, so my girl will be undergoing an identity change. I don't have much to add, except her hair is easy to finger curl the same way I curl Nicki's hair.

I love my Sonali doll! She is gorgeous! She has a lovely wig, very thick, curly, and fun to style. It is really one of the best AG wigs, in my opinion. It is very silky and easy to re-curl. Her skin tone is beautiful. Her eyes are a rich chocolate brown. Her cloth body is kind orange? I do't like to put her in swim suits because the color difference bothers me. Her outfit is adorable! Her pants are a little tight, but they go well with lots of other things. The shirts are seperate, which is great. Her shoes are fetching. She does have the weird, undefined ears. They don't both me much since her hair covers them 99% of the time. Even if they aren't covered, you can't really tell unless you get up close. Here they are compared to Julie's ears. Excuse my disgusting fingers, I had just been outside.
My Sonali came with a scrath on her forehead, direct from AG. I noticed when I took her hair net out. It didn't matter much though, since her hair hides it, and you can only see it in certain lights.

Not much else to add. I think if you are thinking about getting Sonali, I would definitely recommend her. She has soon become a favorite. I like her meet outfit because it comes with lots of pieces that can mix and match. Her face mold and color are so different from the other dolls that I have. Her face is so sweet and kind looking. My doll is not based on the book character. She couldn't have a mean bone in her body. I've had her hair in several styles and pulled it out of pigtails, not as gently as I should. I am surprised how well her curls seem to handle it and they easily recurl around your finger. Love her!!

I just love sonali but I have to say, that I guess, that her ears look like this because the form is not good enough or stuffed in the eararea, if you have the chance to change something I probably would, if not I would live with it, most of the times you don´t see it and sonali has such a pretty face, she is absolutely gorgeous
