This set was introduced in 2009 and retired in 2013. The components were added to Rebecca's Teatime Traditions set from 2014 to 2019. In 2019, the Sabbath Set was rereleased with additional items from Teatime Traditions, while the candles and candlesticks were released as part of the Parlor Table set. Some items were slightly modified over time and with the different releases.
Original Description: Every Friday evening, Rebecca’s family celebrates the Jewish Sabbath. This special set has everything needed for the traditional meal. This set features everything Rebecca’s family needs to celebrate the Sabbath:
A Russian samovar and tray for heating water and serving tea
A tea canister and a ceramic teapot
Two glasses, pretend hallah bread, and a scalloped cloth
A pair of Sabbath candles that the women in Rebecca’s family “light” before sundown
Two blue candlesticks that were a gift to Rebecca from Mr. Rossi
Rerelease Description: Rebecca loves to share special Sabbath meals with her family (it’s her favorite time of the week!) and hopes to one day have the honor of lighting her family’s Sabbath candles. Set includes:
A brass-colored metal samovar brought over from Russia with a removable lid and handle that turns to dispense hot water
A brass-colored metal tray
A loaf of traditional Jewish braided bread, hallah, and a special embroidered cloth to rest it on
A ceramic teapot with floral details and a paper tea box
A white ceramic plate with gold trim to match the teapot
A set of rugalach, traditional Jewish pastries
Two real glasses with etched details
I don't have the Sabbath set, but I did spend some time playing with it in the personal shopping room at AGP NY, so I will review it now to the best of my ability and then grade & update it later when the Sabbath set comes off backorder.
Rebecca's teapot is really tiny! It's cute, but not very big. The box of Ceylon tea is just a simple, unweighted cardboard box. The Samovar is nice and shiny, but the little spigot is plastic. The drinking glasses are etched with a star pattern- they would have been much improved if they'd come with Russian metal tea glass holders, but they're nice without them too. The challah is really odd gummy, squashy texture.
The Sabbath candlesticks are a nice, heavy blue glass. The candles are also much thicker and nicer than the little candles that come with the Hanukkah Gift set. They slide in nice and easily.
