A-
When I first heard about this set, I was excited by the concept. My girls love both dolls and bugs, so this outfit seemed like an ideal combination. According to the AG description, the set includes:
•A bug-print shirt with cap sleeves, lace trim, and woven ribbon at the waist
•Pants with eyelet trim and polka dots
•A paper-straw hat with a fabric band and bow to shade her face
•Little ladybug shoes
•A ladybug pull toy for playtime fun
• Bitty Bear and the Bugs storybook
I don’t really know what I was expecting, but I was a little disappointed with this set. For whatever reason, I expected the set to be knit instead of plain cotton and look more like baby clothes than doll clothes. However, I do like the print, the detail, and the bold colors. Also, I like that this outfit is relatively easy for young children to get on and off their dolls. The outfit’s mix-and-match potential is another positive aspect of the set.
Shirt:
Even though bug-print shirt is white and made of a light weight material, it is not see-through. The print is cute, bold, and an appropriate size for the doll. I do wish the ribbon with the lace went further around the top. The Velcro closure is not the ‘snag-less type’. Overall, the shirt fits both Bitty Baby and the 18” doll fairly nicely. However, the neckline does come down a little lower than I’d like on the 18” doll. Therefore, our 18” dolls usually where the outfit with a sleeveless white shirt underneath.
Pants:
The polka dotted pants have an elastic waist. Even though the material is on the thinner side, it is not see-through. Although the pants have a little bit of a low rise, they fit well on the Bitty Baby. They also fit alright on the 18” doll, though they are more of a capri length on the 18” doll and sit at underwear level.
Hat:
The hat fits okay, but not wonderfully on both Bitty and the 18” doll. I’m not a huge fan of grass/straw hats on dolls. Even though this hat is quite smooth, I worry that it’ll scratch Bitty’s head or snag the hair of the 18” dolls. For that reason, it doesn’t get a lot of use.
Shoes:
The shoes are my favorite part of the set. They remind me of a more feminine version the crib shoes my son had as a baby. The quality and the detail are really sweet. My preschool aged children can usually get these shoes on with little or no help. The shoes also stay on well and I’m not too concerned about losing them when Bitty goes out and about. Although, it isn’t a big deal in my opinion, the shoes don’t fit the 18” girls.
Toy and Book:
I haven’t taken the ladybug pull toy out of the original packaging, but my children have played with theirs’. They always enjoy playing with the little toys with and without their babies. The book is okay, but we’ve never been big fans of the Bitty books. However, it does get some playtime. My girls like to line up all the books and take Bitty and others to the library.
