Josefina’s Accessories JMA
$20 (price increase at some point and now is $24 in 2012)
This set includes Josefina's rebozo, her garnet pendant, her leather pouch, and her hankie and coin.
I love Josefina's meet accessories. The little pouch is real leather, and fastens with a button that goes through a little loop of leather. It is a nice, smooth finished leather. The rebozo is beautiful, with lots of pretty colors woven in. I love the read, white, blue and yellow tassels. The garnet pendant is positively lovely.I have not tried it on her yet, but no doubt it will look gorgeous. The handkerchief has a lovely, single little flower stitched on the corner. The coin, like all AG coins, is a perfect little replica, with the word "copy" stamped on one side.
I am SO glad I got Josefina's meet accesories when I got her. The rebozo is very pretty as is the kercheif. The coin is cool, but what can one say, it's a coin. However I was rather dissapointed in the qaulity of Josefina's necklace, The chain broke the moment I picked it up, so I had to bead Josefina's pendant onto a new necklace. This would rate an A+++++++++++++++++++ with me, as opposed to a A++++++++++++++++++++++ which it would rate if the necklace had lasted.
I hated the new rezobo design when I first saw it on AG's site, but like many of their items, it's much prettier in person. It was a very pleasant surprise when I got it out of the box and saw how lovely it was.

The rebozo - I must say that I am glad they made this, because it is such an integral part in every single Josefina story. Josefina's wearing it in most of her illustrations, too. Mine is from 2004, so it has the first diamond-pattern of blue, gold, red, and natural threads. The rebozo is actually woven, not printed, and the threads are knotted off as four tassels on each end of the rebozo. I'm not a big fan of the colors because to me they seem really dull, but that was probably accurate. The rebozo is a great length though, so you can wrap it around Josefina's arms, or twist it in the ways shown in the pamphlet that was included. My girl usually ends up with it wrapped around her face. B
The jola - I am an absurd fan of the little coins AG produces. I was kind of disappointed Kirsten didn't have one. Josefina's is really metal, with an eagle on one side and a sun on the other. It tarnishes just like a real coin, but you can use a silver cloth to shine it up. Josefina never really uses a coin in her books, but I'm still glad it was included with her accessories. A
The pouch - when I got my pouch American Girl was still using leather. Mine is pretty thick, maybe 1/8 of an inch. It is stitched with a leather thong, which is also used for the belt loop and button loop. The button is supposed to look like bronze and is detailed metal. I have my suspicions that the pouch speeds up the tarnishing of Josefina's coin, and the pouch also always seems to me to be off-scale. I don't use it much, but it's still a quality piece. A
The handkerchief - this piece seems a little skimpy - it's made of the very thin white cotton that Dollar Store handkerchiefs are made from. In the corner, there a red, yellow, blue and green flower which is probably from "colcha" embroidery. Again, I don't use this piece much, except maybe with Josefina's party dress. B- The necklace - now THIS piece gets used all the time. Seriously, Josefina once wore it for nearly a whole year. It goes with her meet, school, and Christmas outfits, and her party dress excellently. It is plastic or possibly hollow metal, with a metal chain and plastic "garnet". The paint is a shade between bright and antique gold, but unfortunately the color started to rub off on the back and on some of the raised detail. I'm kind of not surprised, though, with the use it's gone through. The chain on mine was a bit too long so I cut it shorter, which in hindsight I probably shouldn't have done but now I'm glad it hangs the same length as the catalog shows. A+!

I love Josefina's rebozo, with its wonderful earthy colors and little tassels at the end. The booklet that shows different ways of wearing it is particularly helpful- my Josefina likes to switch it every so often. This particulary rebozo is about 500 times better than the weaving outfit rebozo, but once I got the Herb Gathering rebozo, this one fell a bit in favor. That one is so nicely woven, while this one falls short.
Josefina's leather pouch has a little thong so you can attach it to her belt. I found the little loop somewhat difficult to deal with, so I keep my jola, or coin, in its little paper envelope.
I love that Josefina, like most of the other dolls, has a coin of her own! It's much, much bigger than Kit's little nickel. The hankie has a pretty little embroidered flower, possible done by Josefina's sister Clara, who loved embroidery.
Tia Dolores brings this necklace all the way from Mexico City for Josefina, though her sister Francisca thinks it's too grown up for her littlest sister. I love it because garnet is my birthstone! I also love that it looks like a Zia sun, a pueblo pictogram depicting what else, the sun!

I love this little set! I have a PC set.
The rebozo has a pretty pattern with nice, soft colors.
The little pouch is just too cute. I love the little button.
The handkerchief has a pretty little flower stitched. Very simple.
The coin is pretty cool, though I'm not entirely sure what to do with it but wrap it up in the handkerchief and stuff it into the little pouch, lol. Still, I like that it's included.
I LOVE the necklace. The pendant is so pretty I almost want to get a second one to put on a normal sized chain and wear it myself! It's so very pretty. When Josefina finally makes her way here, she won't ever take it off!
I just received the set I ordered on eBay. I'm guessing it's a pre-2007 Mattel set. The rebozo is the diamond pattern, but the pouch is definitely fake leather. The chain on the necklace is losing color, but the pendant is fine and very pretty. While I was expecting the rebozo to be a tad brighter, that might come from the weaving. It's a good length and can be wrapped in many ways. (I'll experiment more later - my set didn't come with the pamphlet.) The coin is a good size, and I'm hoping won't be lost as quickly as some of the smaller coins in other accessories sets. The hanky is kind of skimpy, but the embroidery is cute. Recommended for Josefina owners for the rebozo and necklace alone.
