Released in 1997 for $40, combined with sheepskin & blanket in 2010 and priced at $70. Replaced with BeForever version in 2015. Sleigh Bed: A New Mexican interpretation of a European favorite! This fancy sleigh bed has a curvy head- and footboard, and a lovely sage-green finish. For added comfort, there’s a soft mattress, called a colchón, and an almuada, a puffy bolster pillow.Bed & Bedding: When night falls on the rancho, Josefina goes to bed and dreams about becoming a curandera, or healer, like Tía Magdelena, her godmother. Her beautiful bed set features: A solid wood bedframe with a distressed sage-green finish and a carved head and footboard. A soft mattress, called a colchon, and a plump pillow called an almohada, to ensure a good night's rest. A faux sheepskin for warmth on cool nights. A colorful, hand-loomed blanket with fringed edges tops off this traditional New Mexican sleigh bed. I love this bed! I didn't get the bedding, instead I made bedding of my own so I can't speak for that, but the bed itself is darling. I called CS to make sure it was hard wood and they assured me that it is. It has such cute little details and I didn't notice until it came that it has a different foot and head board. It was also very easy to assemble using only 4 screws and 4 washers. Overall I give this bed the highest marks for complete satisfaction! Shanna

Sleigh Bed JB $42
A New Mexican interpretation of a European favorite! This fancy sleigh bed has a curvy head- and footboard, and a lovely sage-green finish. For added comfort, there’s a soft mattress, called a colchón, and an almuada, a puffy bolster pillow. This bed is pretty sturdy too. My fat cat likes to lay on it (she gets in trouble for that too) and it hasn't broken yet. The mattress is a cotton filled, off white, pillow-type mattress with six strings tied through it at precise intervals to keep the fluff in place. The bolster pillow, as well as the mattress, is made of unbleached muslin material. The pillow has a draw string on the end to make it seem that you can take the pillow out of the case, but you cannot. I know that Josefina would normally have slept on the floor and that the bed was only for visitors, but here she is lying in it because she just got back from the hospital to re-attach her leg that just suddenly fell off. Notice the ice pack on her head? Bed=Grade A Well made and authentically accurate to the period. Josefina and her beautiful sleigh bed New Mexican Sleigh Bed

The bed - I love Josefina's bed, which I got in 2004. The color is a muted shade of sage green which is very pretty, and it's distressed around the edges. Which I'm glad of, considering my bed has been banged around in the closet and it doesn't even show. : ) The bed comes in four pieces - the headboard and footboard screw into the mattress box, and a piece of heavy cardboard goes in the bottom to place the mattress on. Obviously there are not real mortise and tenon joints, but there is a nice imitation detail. It's really easy to put together, plus all the hardware is included. The headboard and footboard appear to be "carved" in different patterns. The bed is higher than both Kirsten and Kit's beds, but it's not heavy. And even if it's off-scale, Josefina's just too comfy to mind. A+The mattress - well it's kind of just a mattress, but it's a nice mattress. It's made from off-white muslin, which is stitched down in several areas to make it look more like a mattress. It's not stuffed very much, so it's pretty floppy, but that doesn't really matter. AThe pillow - A perfect little representation of a bolster pillow. From what I can remember, I think it's the same muslin as the mattress. It's stuffed very tightly, and has a panel of fabric stitched over the opening so the stuffing won't come out. Then it closes with a drawstring. The only problem I've had is that, since it's round, it tends to roll out of place. Oh well. Still A

Grade: A+This is one of my favorite pieces that AG has made, period. It's such a beautiful piece. I agree with the other reviewers that it is quite sturdy. My cat has slept on it several times and no damage was done. Here's the bed next to the Star & Moon bed for scale. It looks appropriately sized next to that particular bed, but Josefina's bed dwarfs Kit's bed. I'll see if I can upload a picture later, but the contrast makes both beds look ridiculous. The head of the bed. The foot of the bed. Bedframe insert, made of pressboard. Attachment of headboard to frame.

I just bought Josefina's bed for my modern, Texan, Heritage antique loving, #28.
I bought a used one, and am really happy with it. Since there are some distressed edges already, any other Knicks or scratches blend in easily. The mattress is also nice and big to hide any other issues.
It is pretty sturdy, and my mini dachshund definitely wanted to get in it! It is preetty big, but I like that bc my dolls have to share beds from time to time!

This bed is so pretty with the scrolled design. It is really well made. Like Addy's it seems to be a favorite with pets, LOL
