I just ordered Josefina's Shoes and Socks along with her party dress and spencer jacket. I was very disappointed open the box and find that the shoes have PLASTIC bottoms! The top of the shoes is a very nice white leather mocassin, but the soles are brown plastic. The socks are nice, thick socks in red, brown and black.

But for the plastic soles, I give the shoes and socks a B.

I wonder if that is a recent change. The shoes feel like nice, soft leather, but they are incredibly difficult to get on over socks. The socks are really nice, thick wool socks. I love the colors because they really look like they were dyed with the natural dyes available to Josefina. The shoes I have do have a brown sole but they don't seem bad in any way, the soles are the same as on Kirsten's boots.

I am sooooo glad you added this item to the review! In AG catalog they dont even say what the shoes are made of. Now that I know that it has a plastic bottom, its not as attractive to get. Who wants plastic on an 1824 replica moccasin???

The moccasins' tops aren't real leather either, I think they are some type of man-made vinyl and they have real shoe strings. The description on the site says "soft beige shoes with fringe" and that's just what they are. No leather here.

Oh, but the socks are so thick and warm! They feel like real wool, but I'm sure they are synthetic. It's really hard to get her mocs on with those thick socks though.

The moccasins look great with her Party Dress and Spencer jacket and we love the set. Grade B+

Personally, I like the revised plastic soled shoes. They are less realistic, but they are more durable. They still look good with Josefina's outfits and such--a nice change from Josefina's meet shoes. The only problem I have is that the shoes don't fit over the nice, thick socks....at least I can't get them to fit.

Warning: Keep the shoes away from the red socks! The socks can stain the shoes if you keep them together. I haven't figured out how to clean them yet. Maybe Magic Eraser? No one wears the shoes yet.

I sent these back. I bought them in late 2007, thinking that by "plastic" AmericanDreams meant a soft, flexible plastic, which I was more than willing to overlook. However, when I got them, they were in fact a hard plastic, like what you would find on a barbie toy. After cramming my PM doll's foot into them I noted the beige was wrinkled in ways that it looked like in a short time it would be peeling off the faoundation fabric like paint. UUGGGGHHHH!!!
As a side note, the socks were perfect, but since they came with the shoes, I sadly had to kiss them bye-bye, too.
Here's hoping I'll find an older version on EBay that's a lot nicer.

The shoes - these are some of my favorite shoes for Josefina, though I wish they coordinated with more of her outfits - they really only match her party dress, but they are essential to that outfit. Mine are a 2005 version and they aren't real leather, but they are a good enough substitute. The laces seem to be cotton. The soles of the shoes are simple, matte plastic without a heel and, interestingly, the shoes don't have a tongue. I also like the fringe around the top - that's a really nice touch. A

The socks - the socks come in three colors - a deep red, tan, and black. The black ones get used the most, as I don't have the socks that go with the Winter Accessories. The red ones are a beautiful dark color but they match her meet skirt and school sash too much for me to use them much. The tan ones shall go with her short story outfits, whenever I luck up on those. All the socks are heavy and thick and reach past Josefina's knees. Unfortunately, they're all too dark to match with her party dress. I use the similar Christmas stockings for that. A-

I have two pairs of shoes; one of them is the hard plastic. They're nice shoes, but I find it a bit odd that they don't have tongues. Knowing New Mexican moccasins pretty well, I would say that these really aren't traditional. They match nicely with her party dress, Weaving Outfit, and Harvest Outfit, but I otherwise prefer to use the moccasins.



The socks are nice, but they're really too thick to wear with the shoes. Plus? They look horrible with the light colored material. I've used all three pairs with the riding boots, but the riding boots just aren't as versatile as her regular moccasins. I love that Josefina has nice thick woolly socks, but they would be so much better if her footwear could better accomodate them.

I bought two sets so I could have the tan socks for two dolls from another line. I had hoped to be able to use the shoes for my semi-modern AG dolls but I am dismayed at how plastic the shoe material looks. I could deal with the plastic soles other posters mentioned, even the lack of a tongue, but the actual last of the shoe looks 'fake' too. Addy's boots are made from a similar material but don't have a plastic looking shiny finish.

The socks are great and I foresee a lot of use for them but not the shoes at all. Grade C-
