This outfit is worn by Felicity in the short story "Felicity's New Sister," the 2005 edition of Meet Felicity, and in the DVD Felicity: An American Girl Adventure. It was introduced in 1999 and became Felicity's Meet Outfit from 2005 until her first archival in 2011.
AG description of Traveling Gown: Felicity was overjoyed to hear that she and Mother would pay a visit to grandfather’s plantation to rest before the new baby arrived. For the journey Felicity wore a lovely new gown of lilac silk embroidered with flowers and trimmed in lace. With it she wore a sheer mob cap, and a choker of purple blossoms.
AG description of Meet Outfit: The character who inspired the movie Felicity arrives in her embroidered lavender gown, wearing a shift, a hair ribbon, white stockings, and black shoes.
Don't like it as a meet outfit.
The Good: Nice colors, nice embroidery. Like the necklace (from what I real it's accurate), and the cap.
The Bad: Don't like the dresses' weird material, and the cap is funny looking on, it makes her head look poufy.
Rating: ***1/2, B-

Traveling Gown/Meet Outfit
Grade: A-
Pro's: The embroidery and detail on the dress are very nice, as are the quality socks.
Con's: The dress is made of a cheapish fabric. Don't like it as a meet outfit, I like the Rose Garden outfit more.
Detailed Review: My favorite part is the socks. They are so versatile and well-made. My least favorite part is the necklace. The necklace does not seem at all authentic, but I am no expert. It stretches as well as having a clasp, and is made of fabric. The coral necklace was probably more accurate. The dress is a bit chinsy. I loved the print and embroidery, but the fabric was this slippery-cheapy fabric. I was hoping for it to be cotton which would be more time-period correct. The shoes are nice too, very versatile with most of Felicity's everyday outfits... They look nice with her riding outfit and Rose Garden gown especially. I REALLY like the shift. I hated the elastic ones because they always got SO stretched out. If you're like me, the velcro is a lot better and longer-lasting! But, you've got to be careful to close it nicely so it doesn't get caught on anything.

Okay, so when I first saw this outfit, I wasn't too crazy about it. But it's really not so bad. I still prefer Felicity's original meet outfit, though. What I Liked:-The choker. I dunno, I just think it's cute. -It's a nice looking dress. The flower embroidery is pretty and the stripes look good. What I Didn't Like:-It's made of a weird material. I'm not sure what it is, but it's a bit cheap feeling. Same with the cap. -Purple is not Felicity's best color. Grade: B

I auctally am a huge fan of this outfit. I love the design and the material doesn't bother me, since they're mostly display dolls it's not like I'm touching it.
One flaw: Hate the cap.

Hadn't gotten around to review this outfit I guess.
I like this dress MUCH better than the original Rose Garden Gown. I like the colors, the print, and the style. I have no problems with the shift. The cap is a bit poofy, but still works fine. The choker is okay. I did not get the new stockings due to my getting it as the Traveling Outfit. But hopefully they are not as thick and fuzzy as the original ones.
Overall, the parts I got, I give it an A-.

I recently bought a Felicity that is about 3 years old on CL. Not sure when the new meet outfit changed, but I must say that this dress is gorgeous!! And I love the taffeta! Taffeta is not a cheap material, in my opinion. Yes, it has a different feel than cotton, but it does not wrinkle much, it keeps its form and it just looks gorgeous! A+ on the dress. I have to say I did not think Much of the dress until I saw it in person and fell in love with it. The cap is such soft cotton with beautiful details. The choker is nice as are the rest of the accessories. The little embroidered bag is beautiful. I did not get the coin in my set, so I cannot comment on that but on everything else, A+. The only thing I could find that I did not really care for was the color of the dress on Felicity. Personally I feel the red haired dolls like Felicity and Mia look better in cream colors and earth tones, rather than pinks, lavenders and turquoises.

I really like this dress. The material of my Felicity's dress is soft and silky. It feels smooth and drapes nicely. The current version is thicker and heavier. The material doesn't drape as nicely and is stiff. The embroidery on my dress is slightly lighter in color. I thick the necklace is cute but it falls off easily. Choker necklaces were very popular at that time. The round eared cap is very sheer and delicate looking. I like the lavender ribbon. The revised version aka Meet Outfit, is made from stiffer fabric that doesn't feel as nice. The embroidery is darker in color. My grade: A- original dress Old (left) vs. new (right)

I was unprepared for how much I like this dress. I ordered it in 5/09 for my PM Felicity because, frankly, there was a free shipping code. It came with the new version shift which is much sliimer and does not have an elastic neckine. The set also included a bright white ribbon, not creamy white like the original meet ribbon. I also purchased the Meet Cap and Choker as replacement parts along with the dress. The dress fabric is thick and very shiny, the fit of all the elements of the outfit is good. The pink ribbons on Elizabeth's meet shoes match the embroidered flowers in the dress (darn those free shipping codes!) Felicity looks beautiful in this dress!

My version of the Traveling Gown is the new meet Gown and was purchased in early 2008. Overall this dress is pretty and looks quite nice on Lissie. Now for the nitty gritty break down:
This outfit includes a purple and white striped dress, a white shift, white socks, white mob cap with purple and white ribbon and black shoes.
The dress is very beautiful. The purple is a nice light lilac color. The white sections have small lilac pin stripes going down them as well. The neckline and sleeves have a sort of fake lace lining them. There are what appear to be three growth stripes at the bottom of the dress (not sure if they did this in Lissie's time) and one on the sleeve. The fabric is a nylon/windbreaker type material, but it is not bad enough to destroy the pretty look of the dress though.
Here is a close up of the fake lace, color scheme and one of the embroidered flowers that dot the dress. The really add a sense of spring to the whole outfit.
Lissie's basic white shift comes with the Meet dress. It is rather nice. It fits well under her clothes (at least the pieces i have). I also use it as nightgown for now as i don't have hers yet. It works well. It is not too see through, but not so think that you would really notice it under her clothes.
The mob cap is really darling. Not really sheer, but not thick, about the same material as her shift. The only complant i have is that though the purple and right ribbon is really cute, it makes the cap not able to match her other clothes very well.
The socks that come with the meet outfit. They are actually really nice and thick. The go all the way up to Lissie's knees. They are hard to fit on with the pink tea lesson slippers, but it is possible. they fit well with the christmas dress shoes. Overall they are nice socks.
The shoes are really nice. The soles are thick and the shoes slide on really easy. The buckle in the front is so cute. I really have to look though to make sure they are on the right feet, which would be a nod to the fact that in Lissie's time they did not have right and left shoes.
Overall i think this outfit is really nice. I do think that the Rose Garden dress was the better Meet dress, but as an outfit the Traveling Gown is quite nice. I give it an A.

I bought this dress on eBay as a warm-weather replacement for the hard-to-find retired Summer Dress for my PM Felicity. While it's not my favorite of her outfits and, like many of you, I prefer the Rose Garden Gown as a "meet" outfit, it's still very nice. The fabric doesn't bother me, either. Seems like it would be fine for a hot day in Virginia! I love the little flowers, too. They're a cute touch. Can't comment on the accessories or socks, since the eBay package only came with the dress.

This dress came from ebay. I got the cap, ribbon, socks, and gown. I think this dress is so charming! It has every essence of a colonial dress on a warm spring day [or even 100 degree weather like today]. Contrary to what people think, purple DOES look good on Felicity [and Mia for that matter]. While the gown has a different feeling material, it fits Felicity's character so well. It does NOT fit the illustration in Felicity's New Sister which is slightly disappointing. While I do like this outfit, I feel the rose gown was a better meet outfit. This is a lovely EXTRA outfit.

A + This dress is so light and airy, it's perfect for spring or summer. My version of the dress is tagged PC and was an ebay purchase. The outfit as a whole is very pretty to look at, and has several themes that were common during Felicity's period. The pastel lavender color is a good representation of what fancier, fashionable gowns would have been made of. The floral embroidery is beautifully done, and represents the importance of florals in 18th century textiles. The last trend that this dress covers is stripes. During one point of the 1700's, stripes in all colors and patterns were being used to create bold, contrasting gowns. Marie Antoinette would have loved this dress. The choker is actually historically accurate, as there are many portraits of noble women during this period with necklaces made of gathered and ruffled ribbons. The mob cap is made of a sheer, soft broad cloth material, and is edged in a tri- color purple ribbon. My felicity wears this with her hoops, and it certainly works well with them. The skirt is cut very generous on mine. Overall, this is a beautiful piece of felicity's wardrobe. It works as a beautiful, fancy spring dress that isn't too formal, but dressy enough for a party.

Question, is there any difference in the cloth material of the traveling gown of the PM compared to the cheap, stiff, shiny mattel version?
Also what came with this dress in the PM version before it became the meet dress?

Question, is there any difference in the cloth material of the traveling gown of the PM compared to the cheap, stiff, shiny mattel version? Also what came with this dress in the PM version before it became the meet dress? Yes. The original version is lighter and drapes nicer. The original has has brighter embroidery. (All of which I noted in my review). The original outfit came with the dress, choker necklace and mobcap. You can see that in Meg's Guide or the catalog scans.

Thanks for the information QNPoohBear! Do you know when they changed the material? I see a few of the traveling gowns online that I was interested in purchasing, all with the mob cap and choker, but some of the dresses look very shiney and stiff.

Probably when they switched it to her meet dress but I'm not positive. I know mine is the original and the other Felicity is wearing the meet gown.

I was never a fan of this outfit before, as I felt it clashed too much with Felicity’s eyes. It also pales in comparison with her original meet. However, I think it is lovely on BF Felicity with her more subdued coloring. The material is not my favorite, but it still looks lovely on the doll. I just don’t like touching it! http://instagram.com/p/CoVeS28Svmb

I have the Traveling Gown version that came with the book. The dress is a pretty lilac color and the flowers are nicely embroidered. The round eared cap is sweet as is the flower choker necklace.
