This item was released in 1996 and retired in 2001.
These giant playscape scenes are carefully illustrated in fine detail. Look closely and you'll discover "hidden" details that make Scenes & Settings even more lifelike! And because the sturdy portfolio can open to reveal four of the five scenes at once, it's like having a four-room playhouse for your American Girl.
Lightweight, sturdy, and designed to last, Scenes & Settings is easy to take anywhere you want to play. The thick pages fold flat and snap closed for quick storage, a built-in handle makes carrying easy, and the entire portfolio weighs just seven pounds.
Scenes & Settings is a picture-perfect way to bring to life the stories of the American Girls. Felicity's Scenes & Settings contains: Cover, The Merriman Kitchen, Felicity's Bedchamber, Miss Manderly's Parlor, Mr. Merriman's Store, Grandfather's Plantation.
When open, each scene measure 4'10" wide by 2' tall. When snapped shut, the portfolio measures 2'5" wide by 2' tall. It weighs approximately 7 lbs.
I absolutely LOVE Felicity's Scenes and Settings. My question is WHY OH WHY DID THEY RETIRE IT? (Along with the other girls' scenes.)
I rate it A+++ (higher if I could) For size, visual appeal, detail, and historical accuracy. You keep noticing something different every time you look!
I remember when they came out back in the 1990s, but I didn't have an AG doll at the time... Now I have three dollies, and I had looked desparately for an affordable scenes and settings on eBay for Felicity. I didn't want to have to pay what they typically fetch (over $100 recently, depending on when you look).
I happened to see one that had just been listed for a Buy-It-Now of $65, and I jumped on it in a blink of an eye. It is in practically new condition except for a broken snap on the top handle. That's OK. The handle is there and the side snap works. I was thrilled.
Up until I got it a few weeks ago, I could only imagine how cute it would look in person. If you have only gone by pictures online as reference, you truly are not getting the full effect!
Immediately, I set it up in the living room floor, and I searched the house for "props". I felt like a kid again, as I found myself sprawled out in the floor decorating the kitchen with a handmade rocker, pottery, and little basket. Here's a picture:
For those of you who may not be familiar with the scenes...I should have mentioned that the scenes measure 23" tall by 28" wide (when closed). Double the width when opened all the way. BIG!
The cover has a picture of the outside of Felicity's house.
Inside scenes are:
Merriman's Kitchen
Felicity's Bedchamber
Merriman's Store
Miss Manderly's Parlor
Grandfather's Plantation
The back of the scenes book is an illustrated map of Felicity's World (Williamsburg, with landmarks noted).
Best of all, the artists are credited for the work! They did and awesome job with this!
For me, right now it's a tossup between Miss Manderly's Parlor and the Merriman's Kitchen as favorites.
How I wish they'd bring the scenes back!!! And full-sized versions, not the mini ones!
