This outfit is worn by Addy in the books Addy Learns a Lesson and Changes for Addy as well as the short stories "High Hopes for Addy" and "Addy Studies Freedom." Released in 1993, retired in 2006.
Inspired by Civil War uniforms of the day, Addy’s blue suit has a white blouse, a flared skirt, and a fitted jacket lined with fabric scraps from Mrs. Ford’s shop, where Momma worked. Polish up the medal Addy won in the spelling match and pin it proudly to her jacket. It says “Millions for freedom, not one cent for slavery.”
Oh wow! Wow! This is a really fantastic outfit for Addy (or for any of your girls) It is made of thick blue material (felt-ish) and the black trim is just so sweet and really adds a nice contrast. I LOOOOVE how the white blouse underneath pokes out from the bell sleeved of the suit jacket. The lining on the skirt and jacket are different swatches of fabric so you really get the feel for how Addy's Momma made this from scraps of fabric from the fabric shop.
The little medal is just SO darling too! This is one of my absolutely favorite outfits!!! The craftsmanship is just wonderful!!!
Grade: A++++ ;D

Addy's School Suit & Blouse (ASO, Mattel): A+ This set came with a blouse, jacket, skirt and medal. The blouse is on the sheer side, but pretty with pleats down the front and a bow at the collar. The sleeves, poof out nicely from the sleeves of the jacket and velcro at the cuffs. The jacket and skirt are made of royal blue wool, the Mattel version is a bit on the felty side, but is similar to the fabric of my PM Felicity's riding habit jacket. The jacket is gorgeous and goes to a point in the back, it has black trim and is lined in two kinds of cotton/calico. The skirt is also lovely and I love how it goes up into a point at the front of the waist, the inside of the waistband is lined in the same fabric as the sleeves of the jacket. The medal is gold and comes on a little card telling you it's importance in the story. I haven't used mine because I don't want to put holes in the jacket.

I love all of the details on this outfit, but my favorite is the different fabrics used to line the jacket, just like in the story. Ours was purchased secondhand after it retired, and unfortunately did not come with the medal.
There are other outfits of Addy's I prefer, but DD has had her Addy doll dressed in this since I gave it to her several weeks ago. It's a very nice outfit though, and I would rate it an A. I think it is a shame it was discontinued.

The combination of a Zouave jacket (bolero-style, military-inspired-trim jackets named for the clothing worn by Algerian Zouave troops in the Italian wars c. 1859), matching high waisted skirt, and Garibaldi blouse (a front-buttoned placket blouse with high banded collar and drop-shoulder sleeves) was a popular one for women and girls during Addy's time. This outfit is a gorgeous replica of that fashion in doll size. The School Suit and Blouse is another of AG's amazing pieces for Addy's collection. Everything about it is perfect and I'm always pleased to pull it out for Addy to wear each fall. The only frustration I have is that the pleats defy my storage capabilities and I've yet to find a way to keep it packed or even hung that doesn't result in wrinkles or a lack of crispness in the skirt. Some more photos for this thread: The dress does have a history of getting moth-eaten, so store it carefully. I've not had that problem since I keep my Addy collection in a trunk, but the outfit is a bit of a fuzz magnet when it's been worn for a while. Addy's cage crinoline *could* slip under the skirt but that would not have been very practical for school wear, plus it would just barely fit and distort the skirt pleats. A nice petticoat would do the trick of fluffing out the skirt just fine, if you felt it needed it. Addy would always have worn a petticoat as it was, but I think it might be hard to close the skirt with one under it. The pin (shown on Addy in my last photo above) is a darling replica of a real medal that carried the slogan for Abraham Lincoln's Republican party of the day: "Millions for Freedom, not one cent for slavery." It is dated 1863. Historical accuracy and quality craftsmanship....it doesn't get any better than this. A+

I purchased this outfit from a board member. I have been yearning for this outfit since I was a young girl. I am so happy to own it as an adult and it looks b-e-a-u-t-i-f-u-l on my PM Addy. The school suit has PC tags and fits my chubby Addy well, but the blouse is a bit snug. I give it an A+ for the quality of the fabric and construction.

This is one of my favorite AG outfits of all time. I wanted this set so bad when I was young! I thought Addy looked so smart, stylish, and sweet in this... and she does! This suit is absolutely adorable... the different fabrics the line the jacket make me smile. The braid trim is so elegant. The medal is a period perfect detail. The suit fabric is a wonderful wool, and the shirt is a crisp cotton. This is PC at it's finest. A++I love this color and Addy, and her straw bonnet from the meet set looks really nice with this! I had her dressed in that last time I took her to AGPLA, and she got a lot of compliments from sales associates!

I just bought this outfit from Ebay, after wanting it for years, and am so happy to have it! I love Addy Learns A Lesson and I love the old core six-book outfits. I'm glad I was able to get this with the hard to find medal. It's a sweet outfit and looks great on Addy. I love that the jacket is separate from the blouse, which adds a bit of mix and match potential with other outfits (such as if you have the newer School Outfit also, and Addy doesn't want to wear a jacket with that one). Mine is tagged "Made in China for Pleasant Company, 1994." The attention to detail is wonderful and it's such a classic piece for her collection. A+++++ Here are a review video and some photos: A close-up of the medal. The trim on the jacket and skirt.

Beautiful! The fabric and color of the jacket and skirt are so rich and thick. The inside of the jacket and waistband of the skirt are lined with what looks like would have been scraps from Ms. Ford's Dress Shop. I love that detail because it brings Addy's story to life and I wish that AG did more things like that now. I appreciate the outfit being in three separate pieces. The skirt is thick and full enough to fit the Winter Petticoat underneath (pictured with the Winter Petticoat). The blouse is crisp and pretty. The jacket is thick and has black piping that matches the piping on the skirt. I acquired this outfit second hand, so I cannot comment on the Spelling Bee Metal, but I know that my Addy is a winner even without it! Grade: A
