Kirsten doll, Purchased in March 2006, Mattel.
Kirsten is such a cute doll. I love her little braids, and a lot of her collection. I find her books a bit more on the boring side (save for a few which I love, like her meet and Christmas books), but I'm half Scandinavian, so Kirsten and I have similar ancestry.
Rating: I'd give Kirsten an A, though I must admit that's simply because I'm not a fan of her meet outfit without the accessories. That aside, for *just* the doll, I'd definitely give her an A+.
She has pretty, bright blue eyes, and my doll, has a plump, though not as plump as PM dolls, face with nice, sandy blonde hair that's really long, and nice for playing and styling.
I've never seen a PM doll, so I cannot comment on the differences, but the M one is very pretty.

I got my Kirsten in Jan. 2006 and she is adorable, though mine is not all like her book character-she's more outgoing. I love her hair- it's not all one color of blond. And her eyes are bright. I had wanted Kirsten since 1996ish, when I first got into AG; she was always my second favorite historical (Felicity being my favorite, of course)!. Kirsten is definitely an A+++++++ ETA: photos (this was a reenactment of her wanting to get out of the box-thus why she is wearing her accessories.

I got my Charlotte for Christmas 2006. I am so happy I asked for her. The thing I love the most about her is her face mold. Her face looks so sweet and round and innocent! I melt everytime I look at her. Almost as soon as I got her, I undid her braids. I heard horror stories about her hair getting crazy-tangled, but I did any how. I'm so glad I did. She has so much more personality now! Some people don't like her wavy hair. I love it! And when I do want it braided, its really easy to do. I took some pictures of Charlotte! Charlotte with an "Our Generation" dog: A slight close up of her face. Notice how I redid her braids for the photo(s)!: Last but not least, a face close up:

NellieGirl's Kirsten was purchased at AGPC in 2002. She looks dramatically different from my WB Kirsten and even different from newer Kirstens. Her best feature is her pretty, long , soft, silky hair. It is fun to brush and braid.

Kirsten 21 November 2003
Kirsten was my first doll, and she is still one of my favourites. She looks great in both modern and historical clothes. Her historical era also fascinates me, and I love the way she looks in all of her clothes. Her hair is also so much fun to play with - she has the longest hair out of my dolls (except for perhaps Addy). I also love her blue eyes. My grade: A+

I live my Kirsten doll as well! She was my first doll, and I received her form my 9th birthday in June 2003. I was pretty obsessed with pioneers during that stage of my like! She is an earlier Mattel version, I guess, and she does look somewhat different from the Kirsten's being produced today. She looks like the 2002 Kirsten (an earlier picture on this thread). Kirsten is stunning, though I would only recommend her for older collectors - her hair can be hard to take care of. She needs re-stringing and a general cleaning of her limbs, but other that that, she has held up great and will be celebrating her 6th birthday this year!

My Kirsten was purchased in 2005 (I think. She was a birthday gift. ) and was my first doll. I recommend her 100%! She is beautiful! But here is the real review: Sturdy and pretty doll that everyone needs. Her hair is ash blond and can be put in many different styles, but styles like buns and braids work nicely. Like Nibs said, her eyelashes don't match her hair at all, but this is extremely minor and hasn't really bothered me. Your collection isn't complete without this doll! ~AGFan97

I love my Kirsten! She is perfect, absolutely perfect! I couldn't be more thrilled to have her! Her hair a lovely shade of blond, and although the bangs not be very accurate, I think she looks very nice with them. Kirsten's light blue eyes really pop, they're gorgeous! You can't go wrong with Kirsten. I really recommend getting her before she is archived! A+ all the way!

For some reason, I really prefer Mattel Kirsten over PM. Not the same for Samantha. She has got such a sweet expression! I give her an A+++++ mod edit to remove broken image links

My Kirsten was purchased in 2004(? She was a gift). She has the sweetest face and beautiful, long blond hair. Her hair might be hard for a young child to manage but I haven't had any trouble. I would definitely recommend her! A+

My Kirsten that I won on Ebay arrived yesterday. She's gorgeous & I'm satisfied, but I thought her hair would be thicker. Of all the American Girls I like Kirsten the best. She has the best stories & personality. Now that I'm a mom, she has the kind of personality I hope my daughter will have: She loves her parents & is responsible but she also knows how to enjoy being a kid, she tries to do her best, & she's a girly girl too. Usually I like the black dolls best, especially since our baby girl that we adopted is black, so it's interesting that I like the blonde, blue eyed AG best, but Kirsten is my favorite! I give her an A, the only thing that would make it an A+ is if she had thicker hair.

Kirsten was my fourth. I bought her literally 3 days before AG announced her archival and let me tell you I was ecstatic! I got her new off of eBay for $89.99 and just a few days later you couldn't find her for that anywhere! I'm sure the seller is still kicking themselves though!
She is beautiful. I love her braids, and when I don't, it's easy to take them out and let her hair down. It's gorgeous and wavy and she looks cute in just about anything! She looks best in period piece clothing but still is adorable in modern wear. I just love her!
My only complaint with her is that I could never re-loop her braids exactly right to have the milk-maid do. I like dressing all my girls up as they looked when they were brand new, and I can never seem to do this with Kirsten because of that.
Her meet outfit is probably the most durable of any of the historicals. A small issue for mine though is the white parts of the sleeves tend to flip up. They are easily tucked back down but you would think AG would've sewn that part down!
Still...solid A for Kirsten!

My Kirsten is from 2005, and she's sooooooooooooooooo cute. Her hair isn't as stylable, but you can still put it up. She just has this sweetness about her; I can't really put my finger on it, but it's different from the other dolls. Did I mention how much I love her? A solid A for Kirsten.

IMHO, Kirsten is one of the best Historical characters and no collection is complete without her! Anyway, she's such a sweetheart. She looks so cute and innocent. I got her in December of 2009. I love her eyes-they're so blue! And her little looped up braids are adorable. I wouldn't suggest taking the braids out. Her hair would get frizzy and it's hard to get it into the original style. However, sometimes if her braids are messy, I'll take them out but immediatley rebraid them.
She looks great in all clothing, but especially in blues and purples. It really brings out her eyes!

I had ordered Kirsten in November 2009 with a backorder until June 2010. In March 2010 I decided to cancel my order and get a modern doll instead (I don't even remember who I got then). I started paying more attention to Kirsten after I saw how much a friend from this board enjoyed collecting for her. This last December I had the opportunity of "adopting" a Kirsten from a very sweet collector. I am so glad I did. She is such a sweet doll! She has big blue eyes and looks so innocent and cute. I love her bright shiny hair. I've been tempted to try more hairstyles on her, but the other day I undid one of her braids and it was hard to make it perfect again. I love Kirsten. She's such an adorable doll.

I absolutely adore Kirsten! I am 100% Norwegian so to me her story is really interesting despite the fact that she is Swedish. I love her long blonde hair and blue eyes, her braids are just adorable. She really does have beautiful coloring and hasn't changed as much as the other historical dolls since Mattel bought Pleasant company, which makes me happy. I love her story but it really is very sad IMO. Her meet outfit is very fitting for the time/culture in which she was raised. Kirsten never used to appeal to me as much as the other dolls which is surprising given my heritage but now I have a greater appreciation for her and even though she isn't one of my top 5, she is still a beautiful doll. Grade: A (the plus is reserved for my absolute favorites!)

Kirsten is just adorable! I can't believe I haven't reviewed her yet. So I never saw myself with a Mattel Kirsten, but she's very dear to me now. She was the first doll I ever bought for myself with money I'd earned by working. I love her super long, soft lemony blond hair. I'm not a huge fan on blonds in general, but Kirsten (and #12 - Wendy) are definite exceptions. I worried that if I took her braids out I wouldn't be able to redo her original style, but I can. It doesn't look factory perfect when I do, but it still looks really great. I really love her vibrant blue eyes. The character is wonderful and the doll looks as sweet as I imagined. I love and adore her meet dress. It's really pretty and looks wonderful with her coloring. The shoes however, are horrendous. They're probably my least favorite AG shoes, and that includes the plastic Mary Janes of Sam, Nellie, and Molly. Overall, love her! A- (grade is only lowered by her one fault -- those damn shoes) With my friend's PM Kirsten, who was dressed as Rebecca:

I love my Kirsten doll! I was 6 when I got her--- That was in 2004, and she was the first AG I ever got. So, I have to be partial to her since she started it all! I've always loved pioneers, and she is truly a wonderful, accurate doll. Her hair is a little grayer than I would have liked, but all in all, she's a beautiful doll. I've always wanted a WB, but I do love this doll!

Hi I just found this forum while researching my newly acquired Kirsten doll. We are VERY new to AG.. my daughter (6) just got her first (MAG #27) for Christmas. She's never played with dolls before or even expressed interest until she asked for an AG for Christmas lol Anyway, we're not a wealthy family, so I really mulled it over and splurged on one and she LOVES it.. and I have to admit, I love her too! I did a search on my local craigslist to find a cheaper (used) doll for my 3 year old and came across a collector who invited me to her home to have a look.. I ended up taking home a MAG - with brown hair & blue eyes (3 y/o picked her out) and while we were there, I was drawn to Kirsten.. so, we got her too. I'm SO glad I looked her up before letting the girls play with her!!! I had no idea she was one of the first. From what I'm gathering (and help from the AG facebok page) she's estimated to be from 1994 - her body is tan and tag says "made in Germany" - her dress tag says 1994 Here are some pictures of her *mod edit to remove inaccessible image link* She's in amazing condition! I think she was kept up because she wants to go in a sitting pose.. like, her legs are used to being in that position - so, I'm keeping her up so she doesn't get ruined.

Kirsten was my first doll. She's very beautiful! Her hair is definitely not meant to be played with extensively and styled in my experience. It will stay looking the neatest if you just keep it in braids! I learned that the hard way because I got her when I was very young Despite her hair losing some of its shine and getting thinner, my Kristen still looks amazing 15 years later! http://instagram.com/p/B-Dmn0Chgb8 http://instagram.com/p/CCRo1QAMgzb
