This outfit was worn by Samantha in the 1998 edition of the book Meet Samantha. The Samantha doll was sold wearing this outfit from her debut in 1986 until her first archival in May 2009. The outfit made another brief appearance in Samantha's 35th Anniversary Edition, which was released and retired in 2021.PC description: Samantha's checked taffeta dress has a fashionable pleated front and a dropped waist circled in burgundy satin. Her matching bow holds back her thick brown ringlets. She wears long black stockings and black shoes with ankle straps. So you wanna see my pretty Samantha in her meet outfit? Shameless plug for such a pretty girl! Meet Outfit Grade:A It really is prettier in person. It has a beautiful sheen and soft silky texture. I love the way that the belting detail comes down in the front. Quite a nice feature. It's kind of interesting to note that the original tag for the outfit wasn't a fabric ribbon tag. It is kind of a plastic-ish paper feeling tag. This outfit comes with the WORST shoes! I hate them! They are ugly, cheap, and are the exact same as Molly's. YUCK! She also comes with a pair of white gathered undies and a black pair of thick tights.

My dress's velcro is going bad and the ribbon is folded back- but I don't want to iron it or replace the velcro or get a replacement dress. This outfit is really cute with Sam's play dress pinafore over it.

I love the outfit she came with. I know a lot of people don't like her plastic meet shoes, but I do. I have seen lots of doll shoes like the ones in her shoes & socks set that were split in the back. I don't know if the AG ones are a better quality, because I didn't have them as a kid. I would have prefered black boots though. I give the outfit an A.

Personally, I love this dress. I have a pair of boots I dress my sis's Sam in; I don't know why ske comas in those shoes. She is wearing boots in the picture on the front cover if her meet book! LOL

I'm not a big fan of this dress. The fabric is thin compared to the rest of her dresses and the matching hair ribbon rumples too easily. The velcro has worn out on my Samantha's dress and her tights and bloomers have lost their elasticity. The shoes got lost long ago but I have Molly's and they are not very nice. They're stiff and hard to get on over those heavy tights and Samantha is always shown wearing high button shoes in the illustrations. I'm not fond of the color combination of the dress but it is nice to have something in her wardrobe that is not pink. Grade: B+ bloomers

I have to admit that I do not particularly care for this outfit and thus my Sam hardly wears it. The tights are awkward and I do not know if they are historically accurate or just a simplification...but the dress does not look so good with white socks or even knee-high stockings (non PC). The lacy whites fluff it out a little more, but they still fit underneath it. The front looks like it is missing something without the brooch from the accessories. The fabric is fine. The bloomers are awesome and you can adjust their length. Overall a B-.

I'd give it a B overall. The petticoat from the lacy whites fluffs it out too much in the front so that it does not lie as nicely. I also wish they had given Sam boots--which I plan to procure from non-PC source. The fabric is beautiful, though, and without the petticoat I think she looks pretty.

My Sam hardly ever wears this outfit... i HATE the shoes, firstly. HATE HATE HATE! But i cannot justify buying her shoes and socks at this time since i HAVE all the socks it comes with. Also, the ribbon for this dress is shorter and not as nice as her other ribbons. The material is thinner and not as embellished as her other dresses tend to be.

I think this outfit is cute, although it is not my favorite. The fabric of the dress is thin compared to some of her other outfits. I am not particularly fond of the color combination, although sometimes it is nice for her to wear something different. The stockings seem to be fine, and I like how they go with the dress. The shoes are not the best. They look alright, but they are difficult to get on and off. As previously stated, I think she would have been really cute in black button-up boots.
I would give the outfit a B.

I really like this outfit. Not my favorite of Samantha's, but still a nice dress. I purchased this outfit off eBay since I don't have Samantha, and it didn't come with the ribbon or the shoes, so I guess I can't complain about those like everyone else gets to. So I'd give this dress an A. My little Samantha poser, Alex (AGOT #13) modeling the dress.

I love this outfit! I think the plaid is really pretty, and it looks nice on Sam. I don't have the hair ribbon or tights, so I can't comment on them but I love the rest of the outfit!

The original Pleasant Company version of this outfit was taffeta. Couple this outfit with the dangling broach at the throat and the burgundy hat with it's trio of of trims streaming down the back of the neck and it's truly a stunner.
Like others, I don't care for Samantha's original plastic Mary Jane shoes. However, I would never throw mine out because so far they seem to be the only shoes that Samantha's ice skates will fit over. (Skimpy straps on the ice skates make them too short to go over better quality shoes.)

I'm in the boat with hating Sam's meet shoes. I don't mind how they look, I just hate the half-hour process of slowly shoving them on her feet. The dress isn't one of my favorites, but I admit that I love the accessories, which go well with the dress.

I just got my Sam in August for my birthday, and I rather like this outfit. The material is nice and lightweight, so it was more summer friendly than some of her other dresses. The colors in the dress are nice... I think they look fab on her coloration. The tights are really nice too. And I adore the bloomers. The shoes are alright... I don't mind the way they look so much, and they are really versatile. I give the outfit an A.

My only real problem with this outfit is the back. The front has cute (and I believe, period-appropriate?) pleats on it, but the back just looks cheap by comparison. I, too, wish she came with button boots instead of the boring mary janes, but they're decent all-purpose shoes, and they blend in with the tights so that's cool.
I have the Mattel version (I got my Sam in December of 2008), and the fabric is really thin and kind of wimpy-feeling.
Overall, I'd say B.

I love this dress! Though I was very disappointed that the Taffeta was so thin (in '95). Even My mom was unimpressed! But this is one of my fave dresses to dress her in! I call it her traveling dress! LOL

A bit thinner than I expected when I first got it, I'd seen it before in person and remembered it thicker...perhaps my friend's had a 1986 version, mine has no date, just says "Made in Hungary." Also it doesn't look good on blonde dolls! Otherwise it's great! B+

This is my Sam's fall/school dress, worn when it's too hot for her wool school dress, but a tad cool out for lighter clothes. While it's not my favorite of her outfits, either, I do love the details. The ribbon belt is a great touch! The colors really look nice on Sam. My Sam is from 1993, and my dress has the thicker taffeta. I've never had any trouble with wrinkles, on the dress or hair ribbon, but I tend to store them hanging or laying flat.
The rest of this outfit isn't in as good of shape. Her stockings and underwear are so stretched out, they fall off of her if she wears them. I still have them, but she now wears new Springfield Collection black stockings, and I may try to make her similar underwear or ask my mother if she can.
And few people like her annoying shoes, including me! Mine aren't even in very good shape. Years of Samantha just barely fitting into the whitewashed baby bassinet I used for her bed has left the shoes with long white scrapes on the back. I gladly retired them to the dolls' shoe basket when my mother bought vinyl slip-on black shoes for all of my dolls to share last Christmas.

I don't mind the outfit. I don't have many choices for Samantha, so she spends her winter months dressed in this. I find it to be classic of AG. Very iconic.

I've moved the outfit portion of PM Sam review to here.
Outfit: She did not come with bloomers, but luckily I had some from another 18" doll I bought a few years ago, so I added those over her black tights (which are amazing, by the way). Her dress is so pretty and I don't think the velcro snags at all. The tag says "Made in Hungary". The shoes are a little cheaply made, I agree, but at least they look good and stay on. I have her hair ribbon and apparently it's much bigger than I originally thought. I guess it was a little wadded up, so I straightened it out and put it between some heavy books. Should be fine this evening. I also did not have any accessories, but I at least bought a Claddagh pin to go on her dress.

I love this dress but the fabric gets wrinkled very easily.

I like Samantha's meet dress with its checked fabric and matching hair bow. I don't care for her Christmas dress so this doubles for that until I can make one. Evangeline by Laura *, on Flickr
